After a weekend leak saw many of the details hit the web way ahead of the June embargo, Sony has officially lifted the lid on Killzone 3 – it’s fully stereoscopic 3D PS3 shooter.
The official release confirms the details revealed by Game Informer, including the use of new hand-to-hand combat mechanics and jetpacks.
The narrative will resume from where Killzone 2 left off with Helghast dictator Visari lying dead at the feet of soldiers Sev and Rico.
Unfortunately, the nuclear bomb used to take out the Helghan Capital Phyruss has also heavily depleted the ISA forces, leaving just a small squad to take on the Helghast army.
Killzone 3’s levels are said to be ten times larges than those found in the last game, with one setting “taking the battle into space”.

There’s still no word on the release date, with both Q4 and April next year remaining strong contenders.

A source close to Sony has confirmed to MCV that the reason behind the more recent of Gran Turismo 5’s delays is the implementation of both 3D and Move compatibility.
The news helps to explain the somewhat bewildering claim made by the game’s chief designer Kazunori Yamauchi earlier this month that the game, which has been in development for several years, is still only 90 per cent complete.
Rumours of both Move and 3D compatibility first arose in April when Yamauchi confessed that Polyphony Digital is “always attuned to new technologies”, adding that “if there are display devices or peripherals that seem interesting, I'm sure we'll work to support them”.

“Piracy's been the biggest problem, no question about it – it has become a very difficult proposition to be profitable, given the piracy right now.” That’s the frank admission of SCEA’s senior VP of publisher relations Rob Dyer about the current state of the PSP market.
But the exec also claims that, come E3, Sony will have announced a way in which it finally hopes to tackle the issue.
“A lot of the stuff that will be announced at E3 we're very excited about,” he told Gamasutra. “We also believe that there's a way that you will be able to, not stop, but slow down the piracy in the first 30 to 60 days from a tech perspective.
“There's some code that you can embed that we've been helping developers implement in order to get people at least to see a 60-day shelf life before it gets hacked and it shows up on BitTorrent.
“We're going to fix retail. First party has done a great job of getting some campaigns in place to do that. We have some very big third-party titles, notably from Japan. We will have a good line-up this year. And hopefully, by virtue of that, we'll carry through to next year as well.”

Dyer also went on to point out that while the PSP may be struggling in Europe and America, it continues to boss the market in Sony’s homeland.
“It's killing it in Japan,” he added. “In North America you have Peace Walker that I think is going to do very good numbers. You're going to have some phenomenal support from Square. They have some great stuff coming. You have some great stuff from Capcom. Again, it's a lot of stuff from Japan.
“We have EA Sports stuff that's going to be coming out. You're going to have Toy Story 3 on the PSP that's coming out. There are a number of titles from American publishers that will be there, but are we getting full-line support? No. I'm not going to bullshit you on that.”

Lead designer at Realtime Worlds EJ Moreland has told Develop it is “clear that Realtime Worlds wants a console version of APB”, but said the Dundee studio would want to revise the game to better suit the experience for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners.
APB was initially set to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well as PC, yet work on console editions of the game was suspended.
“Development started as PC-oriented and, at a point where we had enough resources to compile our own console team, we decided to dedicate our talent on the PC game to make it that much better,” he said.
Realtime Worlds “believes in consoles as much as it does in PCs”, he added, before mentioning that there was no definitive timeline in place to begin developing console versions of the game.

iPad has subtle yet important differences from iPhone and iPod touch for games developers, says Travis Boatman, VP of worldwide studios at EA Mobile. "It’s a destination device," he tells our sister site Mobile Entertainment.
"It's more deliberate, and people expect more of a deliberate, immersive experience... People really do decide to sit down with it on their laps and play for longer periods of time. That affects the kind of games we build."
EA has so far released five iPad games, including new versions of Mirror's Edge, Command & Conquer and Need for Speed Shift.

Boatman also praises the "beautiful blank canvas" of Apple's iPhone, saying that iPad benefits from similar freedom for developers to explore new interfaces for games.
"Creative teams can paint any kind of interface for their game, rather than be forced to use a D-pad or rollerball," he says.
"It puts control back into the hands of creative people."
