A new adult option for iPhone apps disappeared almost immediately
The controversy around Apple's policies regarding sexual content in iPhone apps got a new twist yesterday, when it seemed as if the company was about to allow adult apps again.
Cult Of Mac reported that a new category had suddenly appeared in the iTunes Connect service used by developers to submit their apps to Apple - 'Explicit'.
However, no sooner had it appeared and been reported on, then the category disappeared.
Tech blog Gizmodo talked to an iPhone app developer who claimed to have asked Apple about the mystery category, and been told that "it's not going to happen anytime soon".

Zeemote has announced that its JS1 Bluetooth controller device has been accepted into Nokia's new Accessory Developer Program. That means the device - which started as a joystick for mobile games, but can now be used to control all aspects of smartphones - will be sold with a 'Works with Nokia' logo plastered on its packaging.
The company, which was recently acquired by Japanese firm Aplix Corporation, says it will be selling the standalone JS1 in Europe for €29,99.
"This is great news for mobile game fans who now have even more opportunity to purchase a Zeemote Controller and interact with their Nokia handset in an entirely new and fun way," says Zeemote's head of business development Jim Adams.

"By passing the Nokia accessory developer criteria under the Works with Nokia program we are one of a select group of accessories, which will be showcased internationally."

New machine not on the horizon “any time soon”, according to Cammie Dunaway
At its media summit in America yesterday Nintendo once again reiterated Nintendo’s stance that either a Wii HD or Wii 2 is nearing release.
“I don't think it will be any time soon,” Nintendo of America's executive VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway told Gamespot when asked about the mystery hardware.
Analysts have repeatedly predicted the impending arrival of either w Wii successor or an updated version of the current console, and while Nintendo has spoken of its ongoing Wii developments it has also moved to rubbish reports that a new hardware release is nearing.
However, Dunaway was prepared to discuss Nintendo’s thinking behind what direction new hardware will take when it eventually materialises.
“Part of Nintendo's heritage is to always be looking at innovation and to start working on new hardware as soon as we launch a platform, so we'll have it ready when we think the time is right.

“At the end of the day people don't care about the technology, they care about what you can do with it and I think that no one's better than Nintendo and being able to create these kinds of immersive experiences that consumers love.”

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian has told CVG that it's got an eye on using Project Natal for a mini-game in a future instalment of the series.

Speaking in an exclusive interview - which you'll be able to read on this site very soon - Ruffian producer James Cope said:

"I think Natal as an experience is great because it's opening up a kind of social gaming thing and there's a good place for that. I don't think that fits with what makes Crackdown, Crackdown right now.

"But that's not to say it doesn't fit in with what we want to do with it in the future... we have an opportunity to look at Natal... Because Crackdown is a bit of a non-sensical world and it's about mini-games and having fun within that, we can look at building mini-games that make sense for Natal into the Crackdown univese."

The news comes after Valve's Chet Faliszek told CVG in no uncertain terms that the US developer would never put a 'tiresome' Natal mini-game in a future Left 4 Dead - despite branding the hardware "very cool".

PlayStation Home has expanded quite a bit in 2009, with 50 spaces and over 100 games now available within Sony's virtual world. It has been a modest success, but perhaps it's fallen shy of the lofty expectations placed on it when it was initially unveiled at GDC nearly three years ago. Since then, Sony's online service has managed to cut advertising deals with Red Bull, the US Army and Fox -- but has Home been able to maintain interest?

According to a report by Brandweek, advertisers are largely ignoring PlayStation Home, opting to pursue opportunities on Xbox Live instead. Ad agency Publicis Denuo's John Rafferty told the site that "from moment one, it kind of felt clunky. And once you got through that, there wasn't much there." Regardless of the robotic nature of the service, the high cost of entry is proving to be a huge barrier against Home, with "labor-intensive six-figure deals" required to create content for the community.

Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home, argues that it offers "a chance to cut through the noise and actively engage directly with a large, targeted, and highly desirable consumer base." However, it appears that advertisers that want to work with Sony are interested in pursuing a different relationship -- one with the PlayStation Network itself. "Sony is a little more conservative in embracing their system as an ad platform," the report notes. However, the addition of the What's New screen, and advertising on the PlayStation Store, show that the Sony team is adapting, slowly transforming the PS3 into a system that advertisers can genuinely pursue.

Which Prince of Persia game features "superb graphic detail and incredibly fluid animation" and "more thrills than a saber duel with a thousand sultans"? If you answered, "Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands," you'd ... well, you'd probably be right. But that text first appeared on the SNES box of 1992's Prince of Persia, an enhanced port of Jordan Mechner's original vizier vanquish-'em-up.

Nintendo announced at its San Francisco media event today that the SNES game will be included in the Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, which is slated for release on May 18. Earlier this month, rumors suggested that Prince of Persia Classic -- a direct remake of the original game, initially released on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network -- would be included in The Forgotten Sands. Instead, Wii owners get classic Prince of Persia exclusively.

Don't fret too much about the platforms, though. You're probably in for more thrills than a saber duel with a thousand sultans no matter what.

PlayStation classic Grandia will make its way to the PSN this Thursday, February 25, at a price far less than what you'd pay for a new or used copy. For $10, North America can finally access the RPG that's been on the Japanese PSN since April 2009 -- and on the Sega Saturn since 1997.

Grandia stands out from other JRPGs with its exciting combat system, which was obviously in its infancy during the first installment. In fact, we've been waiting for another high-profile game to iterate Grandia's turn-based battle system for years. Y'all just wait, when Joystiq publishing is off the ground, we'll iterate the heck out of it.

Having developed four Halo titles to date, Halo Reach will be Bungie's last game in the series for the foreseeable future. But is it their last game ever in the series? Never say never.

"You know, it might be premature to say we'll never ever, ever make a Halo game again" Bungie's Brian Jarrard told CVG. "We sort of have a little special place for Halo in our hearts. But for the foreseeable future, this [Halo Reach] is it."

Poor Bungie, they could probably do with a break. I don't care if it's a game about unicorns shitting wish-granting rainbows at a race of amazonian super-women, if it's all you work on for over a decade, you'll get sick of it.

So it'll be interesting to see what 343 Industries can do with the series once Bungie move on, yeah, but even more interesting to see what happens when Bungie ultimately returns to the franchise.

Nintendo has released all new media of Metroid: Other M, the Team Ninja and Nintendo developed Wii game that tells a more "revealing, personal story" than previous Metroid games, including Other M's chronological predecessor, Super Metroid.

What Nintendo calls a "dramatic new direction for a legendary franchise and a bold new blend between cinematics, storytelling and the best in interactive entertainment" is what we'll call simply Metroid: Other M, a sequel dated earlier today for a June 27 release in North America. All-new screen shots of Samus Aran's latest adventure highlight Team Ninja's trademark cinematic prowess and showcase the game's blend of 2D and 3D gameplay.

Featuring a control scheme that uses Wii Remote-only controls (held sideways) for side-scrolling adventure and battle moments, with pointer control for first-person exploration and shooting, Other M certainly sounds like a fine compromise for the longtime Metroid fan. We'll find out later when our hands-on impressions from today's summit go live.

Nintendo promises voice acting—will we hear Samus speak, not just scream?—and a rich, "engaging" backstory set on the decommissioned Bottle Ship, plus plenty of action and exploration. Until you get to experience it yourself, enjoy new Metroid: Other M screens that run at a resolution worthy of a Wii HD. (Nintendo warns "screen captures are taken from a version of the game still in development and are provided at a higher resolution than what is available in game.")
