Mobiles are increasingly popular choices when it comes to playing games.
EA has said new mobile games will rival PS3 and Xbox 360 graphics, while Neon Play thinks mobile games will replace consoles in under five years.
A fusion of the two has now arrived in the forms of the Android-powered Ouya and Gamestick consoles, which are priced at around $99, and Amazon is expected to join the market by the end of the year with its own Google OS-based games product.
Game Informer sources claims the online retailer could release the console by Black Friday – the big shopping day after Thanksgiving – which saw online spending pass $1bn for the first time last year, with Amazon leading sales.
Amazon is thought to port titles already available on the Appstore to the consoles, which will have dedicated controllers.
In related news, Google is also thought to be developing an Android console.
