20 per cent off when buying a virtual currency bundle before January 5th.
Amazon has been slapping the Appstore in customers' faces for the past couple of years, and Amazon Coins is the new plaything the company is hoping will encourage adoption as they save money when bulk buying.
The online retailer has now made the virtual currency available as a gift option in the run-up to Christmas, allowing shoppers to buy Coin bundles and send them to friends and family to allow the purchase of apps, games and in-app purchases.
More than 100,000 apps, including Angry Birds Star Wars II and Candy Crush, now support coins and customers will receive 20 per cent off when buying or gifting Coins between now and January 5th.
Mike George, VP of apps and games at Amazon, said: "We know that during the holidays finding that perfect gift can be hard. So, we’re making it easy for you to give the game-playing kids or app-savvy friends and family in your life just what they want – great apps and games to use on their phones and tablets.
"And remember, if you are a Kindle Fire owner, we automatically deposited 500 Coins in your account. So, if you haven’t used them yet, happy shopping."
