From when i got my first PC an old 386 Computer i have been mad on RTS games, i love taking my time building up my base, countering any enemies whilst building a superior defence so that later in the game i can launch a full assault on the enemy position. You start off with the very basic of infantry and mechanical weopens and build up as fast or as slow as you like, gaining new superior offense and defensive buildings, infantry and helicopters and the equivalent in any strategy game.
The greatest of strategy games like the Command and Conquer series, the Starcraft series and also the likes of Total Annilation showed the blueprint to what is the very best way to play RTS games, the earlier games were especially good.
In all strategy games you need to get a foothold in the game to entice you to play more, too complex and youll turn the game off and too easy then you wont get the enjoyment that in any great game you should. Todays online browser games such as Totaldomination (Click to play Strategy Browser Games Online at Plarium.com) offer the next level of strategy game with a gameplay field of thousands to make a truly Next Gen gaming arena with graphics that are familiar but bang up to date.
In TotalDomination you start off with your own sector and even if you find it a bit daunting dont worry as General Trevor Winters and the Stratcom elite will help you into the game. The background to the game is that theres been a plague and a Nuclear War and whats left of the world are now forming their own communities (sectors) each with their own armies, imagine a world war with everyone vs each other, it makes for an experiance beyond any other, if your lucky youll be surrounded by those just wanting to create a powerful base and repel any advances, an uneasy alliance until they deem you a threat.
To get the latest in Technological advancements you have to research and build and collect modules which you can use to trade with other commanders or if you wish can buy them on the black market. The resources are split into 3 areas, Titanium, Uranium and Credits, each sector has diferring amounts so you may need to build bigger warehouses or trade for resources you are short of in the Trade Getaway. You can even invest in ways of refining how you mine for your resources to get more out of an area.
You could raid other bases and steal their resources, as they could with you but will diplomacy be the order of the day, only you can decide.
From reading other reviews from around the internet this game delivers in a way we have not seen since the golden days of RTS games, what it has got over other games is that youll get a notice of impending forces via a little red icon, so gives you some time to prepare and give back what they give you.
