Retailer says machine is currently tracking at 71 per cent ahead of record holder PS3
Having revealed earlier in the week that the 3DS had already broken pre-order records at the retailer, Amazon has now revealed the true extent of the console's impressive performance.
At the time of writing 3DS has 71 per cent more pre-orders on Amazon.co.uk that former record holder PS3 did prior to its launch in early 2007.
It's also trounced every incarnation of the DS, with 3DS pre-orders beating current portable daddy DSi by a whopping 407 per cent.
When it comes to the all time hardware pre-order rankings, 3DS is top followed by PS3, Wii, Kinect and PlayStation Move.
“It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch," Amazon.co.uk's director of video games Chris Poad stated. "Such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the ground-breaking Nintendo Wii and last year’s Microsoft Kinect.
“Nintendo 3DS is launching at a time when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high and with the promise of real 3D graphics without glasses, it’s a real breakthrough in handheld video game entertainment.”
