The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety claims American teenage girls are twice more likely to use mobile phones and other electronic devices while driving than their male counterparts.
Ten per cent of the females were distracted while driving, almost 50 per cent more than the boys, and 25 per cent more likely to eat and drink while on the move.
Additionally, boys were twice as likely to turn around in their seats and communicate with people outside of the car. Presumably, by leering at the girl driving past that's chatting on her phone.
The study examined young drivers with in-car cameras, which found distractions caused swerving, hard braking and rapid acceleration.
Peter Kissinger, president and CEO, AAA Foundation, says: "Cell phones, texting, personal grooming, and reaching for things in the car were among the most common distracting activities found when cameras were put in new teen drivers' cars.
