    The National Post and mobile game developer XMG Studio Inc. are teaming up once again to challenge Canadian college and university students to race the clock and develop an addictive game app in just 48 hours. From September 30th to October 2nd student developers from coast-to-coast are invited to carry on the legacy of gifted GCA coders, and take a chance at coding the next hit game for mobile platforms.
    At the first GCA in April 2011, approximately 300 students on 100 teams spent the weekend working to develop the next great mobile game and take a share of the $45,000 prize pool. In the end, more than 50 games were completed and submitted including the winning superhero-themed game “Super Punch”. The game developers at XMG Studio are currently working with the three finalists from Edmonton, BC and Montreal, to polish their games “Super Punch”, “Valley Raid” and “Plasmium” and publish them.
    “We’re excited to announce GCA² over the weekend of September 30th.” says Ray Sharma, founder and CEO of XMG Studio, the Toronto-based game developer. “We were very impressed with the quality of the submitted games from the initial GCA and can’t wait to get knee-deep in code with that young Canadian developer talent. It’s a great way to socialize, network and play around with the latest APIs.”
    The GCA² will start at 5:00 p.m. (local time) on September 30th, 2011 and continue for 48 hours, ending at 5:00 p.m. on October 2nd, 2011. Individuals or teams of up to four people will be able to work around the clock in coding hubs set up at a variety of university and college campuses across the country. During the time of the event, sponsors will be on-site at some campuses to give away prizes and recruit for job openings. Following the event, the winning games will be chosen and winning teams will be honoured at the “Grand Finale” in Toronto.
    To stay informed about the event, including supported platforms, team registrations, rules and regulations, campuses already signed-on or information on how to get your campus involved, please visit www.greatcanadianappathon.com or follow twitter.com/GCAppathon on Twitter.

    Nexon’s triple phased Big Bang update for MapleStory, the 2D side-scrolling massively multiplayer online game, is now complete with the addition of the “Birth of the Mechanic” content. Maplers can now take the role of the valiant Mechanic character class, while joining the Resistance in their battle against the menacing Black Wings.

    A new beginning
    The three-part Big Bang update has completely renewed the MapleStory that players have come to know and love, introducing a slew of changes that offer players a completely remastered adventure. The previous Big Bang updates, which rolled out in August, introduced a visually richer Maple World, a simpler user interface, redesigned and rebalanced skills, an easier EXP curve, two new worlds, the Wild Hunter and Battle Mage classes and much more. With the third and final addition of the brand new Mechanic class, the Big Bang update is now complete.

    Rise of the machines
    The Mechanics are ordinary citizens of Edelstein who will answer the call to greatness. As a new member of the Pirate family, they carry the same weapons and equipment as a standard Pirate, but they ride powerful ME-07 mechs and are complete tech geniuses- they can even activate robot minions to defeat Black Wings.
    Both new and experienced players will relish the Mechanic’s fast-paced combat, simultaneous attacking and healing capabilities, and with the ability to navigate more efficiently through maps. This all culminates in a new, exciting way to battle the Black Wings and explore the newly overhauled Maple World.
    To find out more about the third chapter of MapleStory’s striking update, please visit the website:http://msimage.nexoneu.com/promotion.../index_en.html

    An entry into this years Neoflash Coding Contest, heres the full details:

    Hey... this is going to be my entry for the neoflash's retro competition 2011.

    Intro
    Myth64 player is a video player for the n64 myth flashcart.It uses a custom video format
    and was made without using the official SDK.

    Overview
    The player fully utilizes the sd capabalities of the n64 myth flash cart (but at the same time its limited by the slow GBA SD interface) , which means
    that you can simply convert all your videos , drag & drop them directly on your SDC , and then watch them on demand using the built in minimalistic
    media browser.

    At present , the player supports 2 surface resolution modes:
    160x112 (uses static rdp instruction block) ( Display is set to 256x240 16bit )
    128x128 (uses static rdp instruction block) ( Display is set to 256x240 16bit ) (default)
    (And in case anyone asks , yes , fullscreen(up to 256x240 or 320x240) is possible with rdp and statically compiled instruction blocks, but without sd core upgrade we can't improve the frame quality(most of the time is spent on io code because there is no support from the hardware), so its going to look awful....)

    The audio is clocked at 22050Mhz(can go up to 44100, but its locked from the encoder's side for the reason i meantioned already) and syncs well with the video layer.

    Finally , as i mentioned already , the player includes a minimalistic media browser which allows you to browse your media directory and play your favorite
    videos.

    Downloads
    Encoder + player + 1 sample video + neoflash intro video + usage guide:

    Please make sure to read the "readme-player.txt" and "readme-encoder.txt" before using any of the software included in the archive.

    Some thanks go to the following people :
    ChillyWilly - myth hardware routines / sd init code (also tested the player and provided feedback).
    Shaun Taylor - Libdragon author : http://www.dragonminded.com/n64dev/
    Sanni - For testing the player on his ntsc-j console and providing instant feedback (he even recorded a quick video).

    And some credits to :
    "soundgator.com" - for the "dream harp" sound sample which is used for the neoflash intro video
    "ECDT1089" for his Crash bandicoot 3 playthrough which is included as a demo video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dtCc2H1UoE

    Description
    This is a music player for the Sony PSP powered by
    FFMpeg which means you can play all audio codecs from any
    container format supported by ffmpeg(http://ffmpeg.org/general.html).
    This also makes use of the PSP's hardware decoders for
    some codecs.

    Changelog
    r2
    *fixed crash when opening some files(unaligned access in ffmpeg)
    *update to ffmpeg 0.8.2
    r1
    Initial release

    Notes
    Since this is an initial release, program is expected to be buggy,
    only stereo signed 16bit audio with the ff. sample rates
    will play correctly:
    48000, 44100, 32000, 24000, 22050, 16000, 12000, 11050, 8000

    and only MP3, WMAv2(only from *.wma files) and
    AAC(except from *.aac files) are hardware accelerated.

    Since FFMpeg supports a lot of container formats and codecs,
    I do not have the time to test if all of it works correctly.
    I have only tested the ff.: codec(file extension)
    MP3(mp3, flv)
    AAC(aac, mp4, m4a)
    WMAv2(wma)
    FLAC(flac)
    signed 16bit PCM(wav)

    For now, a black box is shown in place of the album art.
    Album art will be shown in the next release.

    Controls (temporary, will be changed and configurable soon)
    OK and Cancel buttons are the same settings in XMB (X or O)

    Main Menu:
    Dpad Left = previous menu
    Dpad Right = next menu
    OK = select menu
    Cancel = quit application

    File Browser:
    Dpad Up = previous item
    Dpad Down = next item
    Dpad Left = page up
    Dpad Right = page down
    OK = play song/open directory
    Cancel = return to main menu
    Triangle = up one folder
    Square = refresh current directory
    Select = go to now playing

    Now Playing:
    OK = toggle pause
    Cancel = return to file browser
    Dpad Left/Right = seek
    Triangle = toggle repeat
    L/R Trigger = previous/next song

    Configuration
    configuration files are inside the "ini" folder

    See settings.ini.
    cpu.ini holds file names that will be opened by the file browser
    for playing. Not all formats are listed in it but you can add your
    own extensions.
