guacasaurus_mex has posted a video of an unreleased Pokemon game for the Sega Dreamcast VMU:

Gamplay Video. Given I don't own the IP, I've decided NOT to release this, and recycle all of the cool ideas like the randomly generated map grid into other original games.

I'll leave this video here as a 'proof of concpt' art piece.

For anyone wondering how the gym battle works, you press A to defend when the marker is in the correct location. Missing or pressing it at another time will lower your health. To attack, press B to stop the second marker at the correct location. If you press at the wrong location you'll be locked out from attacking for the next cycle.

Check out my channel for download links to my other original VMU games Street Race and Zombie: Player vs Monster.

    2. PC News

A late xmas pressie from the MAME team comes with a new release of the best arcade emulator on the planet, heres the release news:

Multiple arcade machine emulator for Windows has been updated. Changes:
It’s a bit late for Christmas, but MAME 0.193 is ready today. First of all, let’s get the disclaimers out of the way. We’ve switched to GCC 7 for Windows binaries, and started requiring SSE 2 (Pentium 4, Opteron, Athlon 64, or equivalent) for 32-bit Windows binaries. In the unlikely event that either of these changes causes issues for your use case, you’ll have to build from source. There’s currently an issue with overlay artwork not being displayed when using bgfx video output. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to address this in time for the release. As a workaround, we recommend using Direct3D or OpenGL video output for systems that use overlay artwork (this includes many handheld/tabletop games, Space Invaders, and the Vectrex console). You can track progress on this issue at MAME Testers.

And now, the stuff you’ve all been waiting for: the highlights. We’ve added support for a whole lot of Tiger handhelds based on licensed IP in this release, including the unmissable MC Hammer, Batman Forever, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Robocop 2. We’ve also added some of Tiger’s handheld renditions of popular games from other platforms, like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, Battletoads, and Space Harrier II. On the arcade side, newly working games include prototypes Calcune and In Your Face, a location test version of Teki Paki, PGM2 titles Oriental Legend 2 and Knights of Valour 2 New Legend, and a number of beatmania IIDX titles.

Computer fans don’t need to feel left out this Christmas, either. The Agat-7 floppy drive emulation has been improved to the point where it’s considered working, and the internal HP-9845 printer is now supported. If you’re at all interested in the FM Towns, you need to give this release a try, as r09 has made numerous improvements to sprites and scrolling, and greatly improved keyboard behaviour. There are also some big software list updates across a number of systems.

    2. PS4

We posted that it would be released and now it has, heres a great xmas pressie for PS4 homebrew fans:

Specter has released a browser exploit for PS4 consoles with firmware 4.05. Quote: 'In this project you will find a full implementation of the 'namedobj' kernel exploit for the PlayStation 4 on 4.05. It will allow you to run arbitrary code as kernel, to allow jailbreaking and kernel-level modifications to the system. This release however, does not contain any code related to defeating anti-piracy mechanisms or running homebrew. This exploit does include a loader that listens for payloads on port 9020 and will execute them upon receival. You can find fail0verflow's original write-up on the bug here, you can find my technical write-up which dives more into implementation specifics here (this is still in progress and will be published within the next few days).

Those of you who own iPhone 5/5C and iPad 4 devices will be happy to hear that H3lix jailbreak (10.x;A6) has been released, heres some notes:

H3lix is a jailbreak for all versions of iOS 10 (including iOS 10.3.3) for 32-bit (Apple A6 hardware in this case) iDevices. This means that your 32-bit Apple A6 devices are jailbroken for life so you needn’t worry again about losing your jailbreak by messing something up or sheer bad luck. H3lix jailbreak supports the following devices:
    • All models of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C
    • All models of the iPad 4
    • This jailbreak does not support 64-bit devices (Apple A7 and newer) so don’t beg tihmstar and s1guza about them. That being said, the v0rtex exploit works on all devices running iOS 10.x and some devs are working on supporting 64-bit devices running iOS 10.3.x!

    2. Nintendo 64 News

RadeonUser has posted the release of Project64 Legacy Open Beta the Nintendo 64 Emulator for WIndows, heres the release notes:

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or simply Hello for those who do not partake!

I bring you our first beta release.
We felt we had been taking too long and needed to generate some interest.

What we offer here is an improvement over PJ64 1.6 and I consider it to be our Legacy (hence the name).
We have had great support from our friends, notably Azimer for his work on his audio plugin that he has graciously allowed us to release, Icepir8 for his video plugin (I will better support it soon, I promise ice!), Witten for his always excellent work on cheats, Nekokabu who always brings insight into problems with games (I'm sorry I haven't had the time to fix everything you've pointed out!).
And always a thanks to those that have stuck around, Clements, TrotterWatch, Squall but can't fully commit anymore like they used to (Life moving on stinks!)

Of course to those that found out how to fix the problems no one else looked at, zoinkity I love your work.
Luigiblood, just wow with your work into 64DD -- I'll be visiting that library you've built for us at some point!

Zilmar and Jabo the original two who I'll always love dearly.
Despite the differences we have had I cannot how any rancor towards you.

Yes I'm forgetting a whole lot of people!
    Thank you all though, everyone.

Now I do have a favor to ask for anyone that uses PJ64 Legacy.
What I ask is that you please report any issues you run into!
Anything you feel is wrong or could be improved is welcome.

I must also ask for your patience.
I am programming on my leisure time and I just spent the entire Christmas holiday weekend doing nothing but programming and taking naps (I say naps but these were simply instances where I was no longer awake).

    P.S.
Oh, you probably want to know where the download is.
Unfortunately Gent is the one who set up this forum and website so we'll have to wait for him in the morning to do the posts!
So until then it's in the Downloads section under Open Beta Packages.
I'll upload here too and I'm sure Gent will get after me in his morning for doing something wrong.

    Cheers though!
    Have fun everyone!

Heres a reason why homebrewers and hackers are actually good for old commercial games, heres a release of the old black and white Mario Land 2 on the Gameboy boosted with colours and the slowdowns are gone, amazing work, heres the release info:

    Merry Christmas!
This hack turns Super Mario Land 2, one of the best GameBoy platformers, into a fully colorized GameBoy Color game. Luigi has also been included as a playable character with his own physics.
It’s been completely done in ASM so it works on real hardware. Additionally, this hack uses GBC’s extra CPU, so all the slowdowns found in the original game are gone.
