Comic books and military themed novels have their games, now an epic poem will get the same treatment. Travel through the nine circles of hell and battle the Satan for your beloved Beatrice. Each level represents a sin, look for the tormented souls and admire that grotesquely beautiful world.

From the publisher: An abducted soul. A lifetime of sins. A journey to the depths of despair.

Based on the immensely influential classic poem, Dante’s Inferno takes you on an epic quest of vengeance and redemption through the Nine Circles of Hell.

You are Dante, a veteran of the Crusades who must chase his beloved Beatrice and try to free her soul from Lucifer’s grasp.

As your pursuit takes you deeper into the pits of Hell, you must battle ever more fierce and hideous monsters—while also facing your own sins, a dark family past, and your unforgivable war crimes.

Do the pictures of Hell live up to your expectations?

The game is available on the most graphically capable consoles. The US and Asian versions have arrived (except for the PSP version, which comes in March). All Japanese version will come next week (February 18th):

    Xbox360™

The underwater nightmare is not done yet, Rapture and the Little Sisters now drag you into the dark depths once again into the splendid, fallen utopia. The mutated people and the general menace within the glass walls are more powerful than ever, you need both brain and brawns in the game to survive.

From the publisher: Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture.

It’s no secret The Legend of Zelda: The Spirit Tracks, Nintendo’s latest entry in the Zelda series, had little fanfare surrounding its release. The press was far more interested in the idea of a new Wii installment. Still, the game was quite enjoyable and managed to improve upon many of the criticisms lodged against its predecessor, The Phantom Hourglass. While gross sales numbers are nothing to scoff at (2.45 million copies worldwide), it might come as a surprise to many to know that stores have already put the game in the bargain bin.

Spirit Tracks’ original retail price was around 4900 yen ($55), but it can now be had for under 2000 yen ($22) – roughly $33 off. Mid-January the game was slashed to about 3000 yen, but clearly that was to no avail as stores are still overstocked with the “Triforce Terror”.

While this might take some by surprise, it’s actually becoming more and more common with game stores in Japan, especially for Wii and DS software. And yes, those in-the-know will quickly notice Toshinden next to Zelda in the picture; another game that has been slashed to pocket change.

“Everyone needs a hobby,” they tell us. For the blogger mysteriously identified only as “R,” that hobby would be an almost fanatical nostalgia for the Commodore 64 computer.

At first we thought this was a fan community site, but apparently it’s all the work of a single person. [R] has tweaked, extended, repackaged and resurfaced this 1980’s icon in nearly every imaginable way. They tend to gloss over the technical aspects of these mods, but that’s okay – the C64 is such an exhaustively documented system now that the site dwells mainly on the aesthetics and meaning of these reborn devices.

The 64 has made an indelible impression on electronic music, and the machines are still sought after by collectors, composers and circuit-benders. [R] pays homage by housing these vintage systems in styles reminiscent of even vintage-er synthesizers. Any one of these would warrant a post here, yet there’s a whole collection to browse. Check it out!

With Activision's holiday fiscal report expected to release this week, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is predicting that the Call of Duty profit machine may not repeat its fantastic 2009 performance this year. As reported by IndustryGamers, Pachter believes the Call of Duty franchise will generate "sharply lower revenue," in 2010, to the tune of a $250 million decline. Not to worry, though, as he notes that Activision is likely to more than make up for that amount thanks to Blizzard's impending releases (hello, StarCraft II). Aside from that, of course, it's important to remember that we're talking about a $250 million decrease on almost a billion dollars, so it's not like Pachter expects Call of Duty to wind up in the toilet.

It's worth noting that the previous Call of Duty title, World at War, initially outsold Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, though Modern Warfare remained on top after the dust settled. Unsurprisingly to anyone paying attention, Modern Warfare 2 turned around to outsell the original Modern Warfare. Still, all three remain among the best selling games of all time, so maybe it's okay if the next one is only phenomenally successful.

Remember back in late January when the world was all abuzz with iPad news and, more specifically, we named a handful of game genres we'd like to see on the upcoming tablet? If our spidey sense is functioning correctly, the recent announce of "Gender Wars: The Battle" -- a "turn-based tactic game" (read: RTS) -- seems to indicate Last Flight devs Bloober Team are avid Joystiq readers (obviously BT got its ideas from our post -- don't be so foolish!).

The game (as described by lead designer Peter Bielatowicz) is intended to be "easy to pick up and play" with what sounds like paired down tactical commands for "casual players." Producer Piotr Babieno explains the iPad development focus by saying, "We believe that tactic games will be one of [the] best and most successful games on [the] iPad platform." He also notes that the game will be released at a "very low price" to entice players to get hooked on the "series" and prepare them for future "Gender Wars" titles. And no, neither Beilatowicz or Babieno explain why it's called Gender Wars, but we'll hopefully find out when the game releases this March alongside Apple's new device.
