    News via streetskaterFU:

In the last weeks I noticed that many new not announced patches came with the PS3 firmwares. I will list a few:

    FW Bypass Hack

You could bypass the firmware requests so you could still go online in the PlayStation Network with an old firmware. This was done by setting up a fake updatelist, which was a modified original. Then you repointed the original URL to the list via DNS or proxy to your fake updatelist. PATCHED

    Open Remote Play

This hack by dashhacker allowed you to use the PS3's "PSP remote play" feature on a PC. PATCHED

    DRMDIR

DRMDIR is a folder created in game folder next to USRDIR and TROPDIR. It is added by the firmware every time you install a game or patch. It is used by PSN games aswell as for disc games. The use seems to be, that it checks if the files in the game/patch folders are modified. If so, the game won't start anymore. The DRMDIR may create a hash or similar of the most vulnerable files like the game's EBOOT.BIN.

So what do we have to expect next? As the HDD decryption tools are now public maybe a new encryption? Well, I have to agree that would be unlikely but SONY is known for surprises. Key per sector encryption would fix it for sure but it would make the PS3 slower than ever...

    News via dsscene

Meraman, probably best known for his Tetris Grand Master Challenge adaptation has recently completed work on NDS_MIDDRV_DEV. This provides the user with the ability to play back midi background music for homebrew games development, and also provides a very useful midi/mml player application 'BGMFILER' with tone editing facilities that runs on the DS itself. Great work!

Hmm found this over at Wiibrew so it must be deemed legitamate for Homebrew usage:

Dop-IOS lets you download and install any IOS from Nintendo servers. You can also apply the trucha bug to them.

    Features
Download any IOS from Nintendo servers
Select between oldest version or newest version of any IOS
You can apply the signature hash check (trucha) again
You can also apply ES_Identify function patch to IOS36 (useful for AnyTitle Deleter and >3.4 users)
Protection: you cannot install stubs. You could get a brick if you install an stub IOS that your System Menu uses. If you want them, just update through Wii menu or disc.
Stores files on SD: you can reuse all your downloaded IOS with Dop-IOS or another application.
    Shows your IOS versions
    Why?
Dop-IOS started as a simple modification of Tona's Shop Installer. I wanted to trucha patch my IOS36 in order to play my Super Smash Bros. Brawl texture modifications on 4.0. I could install an older version of IOS36, but then my original games like Pikmin 2 or Punch-Out always asked me to update. These games include 3.4 update with all bugfixed IOS. So the only way to get trucha games on 3.4/4.0 without being asked to update by newest games was to download latest IOS36, patch and install it.

If you are on 3.4 'dop' IOS50, if you are on 4.0 'dop' IOS60. Then you will be able to load trucha games on System Menu (with a modchip, of course). Now you must 'dop' other IOS:

IOS36 (for Smash Bros. Brawl and other Nintendo games)
IOS21 (for third-party games like No More Heroes or Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi 3)
Some games could use another IOS. You only need to know which IOS they use and 'dop' it.

    Brick risk?
Yes. Any application that modifies NAND can brick your console.

Be careful when you are going to 'dop' the IOS that your System Menu uses. A power cut during installation can brick your Wii.

Also, don't try to 'dop' IOS60 if you are using Preloader, because you can get a brick.

    History
    Version 4
It seems that ES_Identify patch can be buggy in other IOS than 36. So now Dop-IOS is able to apply this patch only on IOS36.
SD files now are stored on sd:/00000001 and they can be used in other applications.
Now Dop-IOS v4 shows your installed IOS versions!

Slaanesh posted a new update of news concerning the port of Mame to the Dingoo A320:

Update. MAME4ALL on Dingoo is coming along. My private build is able to play games. There's still a few issues to sort out but should have a public test version soon. Looking good so far.

The initial build isn't going to be as fast as the GP2X version for games that currently use Cyclone and DrZ80. Other games will probably fair quite well. Testing is all done at standard Dingoo A320 speed.

Booboo has posted a new update on his blog:

Some updates to the kernel (will try to find some time tomorrow to compile and release new binaries):

I just got battery reading working (thanks [email protected]). You can get the voltage in millivolts by reading from /proc/jz/battery. At the moment, and until we have some charge/discharge voltage curves, we cannot relate voltage level to battery charge status.

I know that most (if not all) of you are using the serial console over the USB cable to access your A320, and since the kernel panics when unpluging the cable, it is not possible to trace the discharge curve unless one builds an special USB cable without the +5V line. So in the next days I'll work on fixing the cable unplug bug, and then ask for help on tracing the battery charge/discharge curves.

I also got the LCD backlight working. The FBIOSETBACKLIGH ioctl command now works, but I also implemented a procfs interface and since it doesn't require kernel headers (from the userspace developer's point of view), I would strongly advice to use it instead of ioctls.

Just read/write a value between 0 and 100 to /proc/jz/lcd_backlight. As a refinement I might add a linearization table (the apparent brightness increase is much larger from 0 to 10 than from 90 to 100).

Finally, a couple of notes about the keyboard mapping:

I replaced KEY_KEYBOARD by KEY_MENU (power+select). This keycode is intended to bring up an overlay screen which might include a virtual keyboard, but which will certainly include more functions (volume, brightness, process control, etc). So makes a little more sense to use MENU than KEYBOARD:
I added the KEY_EXIT keycode (power+left shoulder). It is intended to kill the "foreground" application, that is, the one using the framebuffer.

Note: when I say "intended" I mean that an userspace daemon will be needed that will capture those keycodes, bring up the overlay screen, etc.
