Bethesda has told Eurogamer that "finishing touches" are being made to Operation: Anchorage on PS3, but offered no firm release date for the Fallout 3 content. We had been prepared for a late June launch.

Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer, chief spokesperson Pete Hines said getting the DLC (which has already been released on PC and Xbox 360) to work on PS3 takes quite a lot of effort, actually.

"Yes, quite a bit actually," he said. "It's a different platform with a different way of doing things and it requires special attention and plenty of testing before it's released."

"We are trying to put the finishing touches on it now, but as I said above it's a different task than DLC on another platform, and so there are things we have to finish doing and testing before it's done on PS3."

Testing being the operative word; Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt and Broken Steel all arrived on Xbox 360 amid technical problems. Point Lookout, on the other hand, arrived this week without incident.

The fith and final piece of Fallout 3 downloadable content will be Mothership Zeta, which is pencilled for late July.

"Haven't set a final date yet," said Hines, "[but] should have one before too long."

"What's in store? Alien abduction done really, really well. What more do you need to know?"

Bethesda reckons the other Fallout 3 add-ons will follow Operation: Anchorage in intervals of around a month to six weeks. They will cost a similar amount to the PC and Xbox 360 versions, which charge 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).

You can buy a combined pack of Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt in shops for 15 quid, too. A Broken Steel and Point Lookout bundle will follow in August.

Or you can wait until October for the Game of the Year Edition, which contains all five add-ons plus the original Fallout 3 game. This will cost GBP 40.

By then, however, fans with all extra content plus the original game will have spent GBP 74. Is it fair to expect dedicated fans to spend so much?

"I think, given all of the content and gameplay, it's a good match of dollars to your hard-earned money. I can point to plenty of games that don't give you nearly as many hours of gameplay, or fun, for GBP 34," said Hines.

And, for what it's worth, Hines agrees that playing Broken Steel first makes most sense.

As PlayStation Portable morphs into the all-digital PSP Go system, many consumers might be wondering just how much space they will need to set aside for each future downloadable title. Sony representative Al de Leon spoke to Joystiq recently at an event in NYC about the storage issue, saying most titles will average around "600-800MB in size." This means, de Leon further added, that the PSP Go's 16GB capacity -- without any additional memory unit -- could hold up to an "average of 17-18 games." Considering the Go can handle an extra 16GB of M2 storage, the number of games could easily be doubled.

Although 700MB is the point we should be expecting most games to gravitate towards, there will still be other titles that will be far below this mark or even way above it. Smaller scale titles like Patapon 2 (which is less than 400MB) for example, could take as little as half the average footprint. Others, like the recently released PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII (takes up 1.3GB), could be nearly double this number.

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has cast further doubt on the MIA PS3 version of The Last Remnant.

He told shareholders that although The Last Remnant was announced as a multiplatform title, Square Enix has to think about profitability. That's according to Andrisang's summary of the meeting (spotted by Kotaku).

The Last Remnant only picked up average scores on Xbox 360 last November and on PC in March, which means developing a PS3 version to appear months down the line may not be worth the investment.

We've asked Square Enix for comment.

The living Beatles, and the wives of the dead ones, are full "creative partners" in the development of the new Rock Band game, according to Harmonix.

Speaking to Crispy Gamer lead designer Chris Foster said, "The shareholders, as we call them - Paul and Ringo, Olivia and Yoko - were really creative partners throughout the project.

"They were involved in picking and approving the song list, the venues we went into. With the dreamscapes, they saw storyboards of all of the material, and gave feedback on whether or not they felt like those interpretations supported the songs in the way they wanted."

The fab two and the other two also cast their eyes over the character designs and animations. "With Rock Band, you've got these avatars that are, you know, anyone, so it's pretty easy for you to believe in them. But when you know who the Beatles are, and you know the joy in their faces when they play, you have to capture that on-screen; you have to be true to that, and they were really good about keeping the standard high."

That applied to the standard of playing, too: "I think Sir Paul McCartney heckled our project lead's bass-playing when he saw one of the game demos," said Foster.

"So yeah," yeah, yeah, yeah, "They were involved. I'm not going to put words in their mouth, but seeing all four of them at the Microsoft press event is about as validating as everything. They don't get together for almost anything... It has to be something important, something they believe in."

The Beatles: Rock Band is due for a release on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii on 9th September. You can find out all the business via the gamepage.

[Jay] hacked a Blu-Ray laser diode into a keychain enclosure. He found a heavy brass keychain light from Lowe’s and stuffed the diode and a larger battery inside. The existing batteries weren’t powerful enough, so he drilled out the endcap to fit a 200mAh 3.6v lithium battery inside. He also modded the power button to only momentarily turn on the diode. With the larger battery, the laser can run for about an hour between charges. In addition to a Blu-Ray lasers, he also has versions with a 200mW red diode.

We've been hearing rumors about a non-game app store for the PSP since the launch of the PSP Go, and it sounds like the wheels are turning -- in an interview with CNET, Sony's Al De Leon said that while PSP content "will mostly be games, there's an opportunity to look at non-gaming applications." Sure, that's not exactly a hard confirmation, but it's certainly suggestive -- maybe we'll see something at Gamescom in August after all.

Glu has expanded its partnership with Activision, giving it mobile publishing rights to five of the company's biggest games this year.

Modern Warfare 2, Blur, Guitar Hero 5, Tony Hawk: Ride and Crash Mutant Island have all been confirmed for worldwide release on mobile handsets this year via carriers and app stores that support Android, Blackberry, BREW, J2ME and Windows Mobile.

"Past titles within Activision’s leading portfolio of franchises have been a tremendous success for us and we look forward to bringing these much anticipated titles to the mobile market," said Jill Braff, Glu's senior vice president of global publishing.

"Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated entertainment properties of the year and the Glu team is excited to develop a mobile game for this blockbuster title for fans of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise."

"Activision titles have proven to be very successful on the mobile platform,” responded Dave Anderson, head of business development at Activision. "Glu has demonstrated superior studio capabilities in addition to strong deployment and carrier relationships worldwide, and we look forward to continuing to work with their team to bring titles like these to mobile consumers worldwide."

With the exception of Crash Mutant Island, which will be released during Q3 2009, the remaining announced titles will be made available in Q4.

Glu has previously produced games for companies that include Atari, Konami, SEGA and Sony and secured rights to develop and distribute mobile games of Warner Bros film releases in 2007.

Meanwhile Call of Duty: World at War has sold over 11 million units on PC and consoles worldwide and an analyst recently predicted its upcoming sequel Modern Warfare 2 will sell in similarly big numbers in the fiscal year that follows.
