It looks like SNK is already preparing to outfit King of Fighters XII with DLC. The upcoming fighting game will have additional purchased content available on the Xbox Live Marketplace (as uncovered by Siliconera) and, presumably, on PSN as well. What that content is exactly, we don't know just yet; however, we assume this means more costumes and game modes a la Street Fighter IV. Maybe it means more characters ... like all the ones missing from the roster screen.

In addition to DLC, KoF XII has console-specific online modes. The PS3 version features a "Clan" mode which is not found on the 360 version (check out the image above); however, the 360 version has a "Ranked Match" option while the PS3 version does not. Hmm ... you don't think SNK would charge for these modes as paid DLC now, would it?

The battle for Japanese hardware supremacy has been in a bit of flux for the past few months, with the once dominant Wii giving ground to the PlayStation 3. Not anymore.

Nintendo hardware outsold its Sony (and Microsoft) competition in Japan last week, with the DSi and Wii swapping positions on the Media Create sales chart with the PSP and PS3, respectively. After a good run, it appears that Nintendo enthusiasm may be reemerging.

That return to Japanese buying habit "normalcy" means another hardware tradition: the Xbox 360 shows in last place in weekly sales. And everything is in its right place.

    Nintendo DSi - 55,382
    PSP - 43,009
    Wii - 24,397
    PlayStation 3 - 18,483
    Nintendo DS Lite - 7,821
    PlayStation 2 - 5,137
    Xbox 360 - 5,068

This is Tell Us Dammit, no, make that TELL US DAMMIT. Here's how it works: We ask a question, you answer it. Simple and no strings attached! This isn't some marketing survey or whatever. It's an emotional investment in you. Yes, we're interested in knowing you, reader person.

You probably know oodles about us - more than you even want to, we're sure. But, hey, we'd like to know about you. That way you won't be some faceless blob - and we might feel a tinge of guilt when we ban ya. Or not, because really we're incapable of human emotion.

    So, our question is:

Whether it be via Twitter, the internet or magazines, game companies of late are going BANANAS with announcing announcements. But do like these announcements of announcements or do you think it's bad PR run amuck?

The cancellation of Six Days in Fallujah seems to have stirred up almost as much debate as its original announcement. Given the popularity of World War II games, it seems clear that the main concern about a game focusing on modern war events relates to how recently they happened. Kotaku takes a look at some of the obstacles such a game would need to overcome to achieve broad acceptance.
"When approaching a game that realistically depicts a modern combat situation, one criticism that often arises is the subject of fun. Can a realistic military shooter be fun? According to Ian Bogost, that's the wrong question to ask. 'We use the word fun as a placeholder, when we don't even really know what we mean when we look for some sort of enjoyment in a serious experience,' he said. Fun and entertainment aren't mutually exclusive, especially when it comes to entertainment based on real-world military conflicts. As Bogost explains, fun isn't the key word in this situation. 'It may not be possible to make a realistic war game that is fun — war is not fun — but it is possible to create an experience that is informative, appealing, and startling in a positive way.'"

Apple's said no background apps on the iPhone forever, citing it destroys stability and system resources. Today, three reputable publications have independently claimed that Apple is having a change of mind. What the hell?

    Via wiibrew

Bannerbomb by Comex is an exploit capable of launching homebrew from any version of the System Menu. It was created to replace the Twilight Hack, which does not work on System Menu 4.0.

The exploit works by using a malformed banner to crash the Wii and run code to load the boot.dol placed in the root of the SD card. It can be used to install the Homebrew Channel, DVDx and the BootMii public beta via the hackmii installer.

    Usage
    What you need
SD (or SDHC if you're running System Menu 4.0) card formatted as FAT16 or FAT32.
SD card reader for PC or a PC with one built-in
    Bannerbomb channel data
    Some homebrew to load
    Guide
If your SD card has a private directory, rename it temporarily, e.g. to "privateold". Having other saved channels on the same card will screw it up. (Also, if you don't have any channels on the SD card already, it's possible to skip this step so you can keep saves on your SD card)
Copy the Bannerbomb "private" folder to the root of your SD card.
Take your Wii executable, name it "boot.dol" or "boot.elf" if it isn't already, and save it in the root directory of your SD card.
Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Channels --> SD Card.
A message should appear asking to "load boot.dol/.elf". If it freezes or does not appear, download the next .zip file from the Bannerbomb website and start over.
The homebrew on your SD card will load. Enjoy!
(Optional) Fill out Comex's survey on the Bannerbomb website.

    Open the settings menu

Go into Data Management and then Channels

    Press SD Card

A pop-up box will appear. Click yes.

    Troubleshooting
Please note that Bannerbomb does not work for everyone at this time.

If your Wii freezes while trying to use Bannerbomb, follow these diagnostics:

Make sure you're not trying to use the SD Menu on System Menu 4.0 (the little blue SD card button in the lower left).
Check that you pressed the Channels button in Data Management.
Make sure that Bannerbomb is the only channel on the SD card.
Try a different version of Bannerbomb. Most people should be able to use aad1f, but some might need another version.
    Bugs
If it gives you the dialog but freezes instead of loading the dol, email Comex ( comexk @ gmail dot com ). Tell him where it froze and whether or not the slot light is on. You might also try removing the disc.
If you press "no" when it asks you whether you want to load a dol then it might freeze.
It is possible to press the back button "under" the dialog.
    Changelog
    v104

Can now boot 'boot.dol' or 'boot.elf' to support for the 'HackMii Installer'.
    v103

Added some stuff that may or may not help with stability.
    v102

    - Ubisoft finally appears ready to start talking about Splinter Cell: Conviction again. Head over to this new man of conviction teaser site and you'll be treated to the first of three reveals. The other two are slated to go live on May 20 and May 28, a perfect lead-up to a possible E3 showing. The site asks the question, "What makes a man confront his past?"

The first teaser has a trailer with the voice of Michael Ironside, known to Splinter Cell fans as the voice of Sam Fisher, narrating. In it, you can see a satellite view of Earth while Sam Fisher recounts important plot details that lead up to the happenings of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Fischer recalls losing his daughter, shooting his best friend, and being betrayed by the agency he works for.

The trailer ends with the satellite camera zooming in on the island of Malta, just south of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea while Fisher talks about a deal made with the agency to each go separate ways. Apparently the NSA isn't going to "let sleeping dogs lie" as Fisher seems to believe since the top of the video shows the words "Target Acquired."
