    News via streetskaterFU:

In the past few days we noticed many hints pointing that the PlayStation3 operating system may be based on Apple's Darwin (OS X = Darwin + Aqua).

As big Apple fans as we are, you might remember this video from 2005/2006:

You clearly can see a demonstration of IBM showing the CELL chip running on a MAC OS X desktop. They also stated, that they show this terrain engine over a year, which means 2004/2005. (http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/08/...er.compatible/)

For the fast fact searching guys of you, here a little FAQ we made:

Q: Can Darwin even run on the PS3's architecture?
A: Yes it can! The PPC is supported by Darwin.

Q: How about the HDD file system?
A: The PS3 uses a few partitions with different file systems, the major one is UFS2, which is also supported by Darwin and all other BSD Systems (Darwin is also in the BSD branch).

Q: Can I see hints in the XMB?
A: Yes you can! Just take a quick look on the "Information Board" and compare it with Apples widget system. (more about it below)

Q: PS3 uses ELF files as executables? Darwin uses MACH-O !?
A: The usage of ELF files could be adopted in Darwin.

Now we come to the PS3's "Information Board". After knightsolidus' HDD decryption methode showed up, several people posted some file lists on forums like demonhades.org. There we see; for example, those filenames:

    "/npdrm/informationboard/

    Dutch.lproj
    Italian.lproj
    da.lproj
    nb.lproj
    setting.xml
    zh_CN.lproj
    French.lproj
    Japanese.lproj
    data
    pt.lproj
    setting_qa.xml
    zh_TW.lproj
    German.lproj
    Spanish.lproj
    fi.lproj
    rss.swf
    string
    Icon.png
    config.xml
    ko.lproj
    ru.lproj
    sv.lproj"

So put the "lproj" in google and what does show up? Ah! - MAC stuff again "lproj" means "language project directories".

    http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTA...alization.html

Once you enter the lproj folder you will notice file names which are again exact the same as on the developer site above. Open them and again - identical commands inside.

"Localizing Widgets" - The XMB widget is based on it.

Back in 2006 Kotaku reported about the official PS3 US website showing an Apple logo on the frontsite of a PS3.

Surely SONY gave a short statement, claiming it was caused by "an external error". Who knows ^^

To finalize this post, a short quote by Ken Kutaragi:

"The kernel will be running on the Cell, and multiple OSes will be running on top of that as applications. Of course, the PS3 can run Linux. If Linux can run, so can Lindows. Other PC Operating Systems can run too, such as Windows and (Mac OS) Tiger, if the publishers want to do so."

To much coincidences for us ;-) ...

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that EA SPORTS has innovated a new, physical brand of hockey that includes first-person fighting in NHL 10 to match the toughness and emotional intensity real-world NHL players endure in pursuit of a Stanley Cup Championship.

The franchise that has won 19 sports game of the year awards over the past two years begins a new era with gameplay innovations that deliver a new standard of toughness, the emotion of playoff hockey on the ice and in the arena, and over 200 gameplay refinements that replicate the skill and finesse that every fan sees throughout the NHL playoffs.

A new first-person fighting engine enables players to trade punches with an NHL tough guy. Feel what it's like to be on the ice in the skates of an NHL player to throw and dodge punches. Grab and tug an opponent's jersey to land a punch that ignites the fans and sparks your team to victory. Challenge a skill player and an opposing team tough guy will step in to settle the score.

On ice toughness and intimidation is taken to a new level in NHL 10 where winning one-on-one battles for possession of the puck along the boards becomes a test of will and skill. Utilizing an all-new board physics engine, players can use their body to shield the puck on the boards and then kick-pass it to teammates. Bigger, stronger players pin opponents to the boards while fanatical fans bang on the glass, just like real life. Fore-check defenders, pressure the puck and finish checks to intimidate your opponent into mistakes. Players fatigue, bobble passes, and avoid collisions under threat of constant physical pressure. Inspire teammates, ignite the fans and change the momentum of a game by instigating scrums, drawing penalties, and mixing it up — all after the referee blows the whistle!

"This is the most authentic simulation of hockey we have ever created," said Producer David Littman, a former NHL and minor league goaltender now in his eighth year working on the NHL franchise. "The Stanley Cup is the most difficult trophy in all of sports to win and NHL 10 replicates the emotion, intensity and toughness players require to win the Cup."

NHL 10 features more than 200 gameplay refinements that replicate the skill and finesse of hockey and deliver the most responsive and authentic action ever for the series. Players can one-time loose pucks, score from their knees, knock pucks out of the air and lift a leg to fake a shot on goal. A new 360 degree precision passing mechanic delivers control over the speed and direction of passes so players can bank passes off the boards or play the puck into space for teammates to skate on to it. Plus, all-new interactive crowds bring the emotion of playoff hockey to life with towel-waving fans, glass bangers and crowds that react to the action on the ice.

Prove you are tough enough to quiet the crowd, silence the opposition and survive a playoff run to lift the Stanley Cup in NHL 10.

NHL 10 will be available in stores this September for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system with an MSRP of $59.99. It is developed under the EA SPORTS brand by EA Canada in Burnaby, B.C. The game has not been rated.

EA SPORTS is the leading interactive sports software brand in the world, with top-selling titles and franchises including Madden NFL football, FIFA Soccer, NHL hockey, NBA LIVE basketball, NCAA Football, and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR?.

Square Enix is on board with DSiWare! Unfortunately, the only people who should be excited are old Japanese ladies.

The first download from the Final Fantasy publisher is called Mr. Brain. If that title makes you imagine a brain training game of some form, you've nailed it. The game promises three types of training.

Mr. Brain is based off an upcoming Japanese television drama that stars one of Japan's hottest stars, Takuya Kimura. In the drama, Kimura plays a genius neurologist who works with the police.

It's unclear if there will be any connection to the drama side from the name. We imagine Square Enix would have been pretty vocal about it if they'd gotten Kimura to actually appear in the game.

Square Enix will release Mr. Brain through the DSi Shop on May 27 at 500 DSi Points. The drama kicks off on the 24th.

DCEmu Member and Coder SimonKagstrom has today answered the Dreams of many emulation fans on the Nintendo Wii by today releasing the first Amiga Emulator for the Nintendo Wii on our Forums:

    Heres the release notes:

UAE is a famous Amiga emulator ported to the Wii. The previous port of UAE never released source code (as required per the GPL) and has therefore been removed from Wiibrew. This project is not related to that. UAE Wii can be found on googlecode at uae-wii.googlecode.com, and is based on the source code of E-UAE. The port uses SDL Wii.

    Installation
Untar the binary release on your SD card, which gives you a structure as follows:

    uae/
    uae/uaerc
    uae/floppies/
    uae/roms/
    uae/harddisks/
    uae/saves/
    apps/uae/
    apps/uae/boot.dol
    apps/uae/...
Amiga kickstart images go into uae/roms/, with the default name from uaerc being kick.rom. You'll need to download this yourself. Thereafter put your floppy images in uae/floppies/ and you are set to go.

    Configuration
UAE is very configurable, so take some time to lookup how the configuration file format works. You can bind keyboard keys to the wiimote buttons etc that way. See the examples in the supplied uaerc.

    Usage
Wiimote 1 acts as both mouse and joystick in port 2. Button mapping should be filled in here.

    Changelog
    Version 1
    Initial release
This version has only received light testing and there will be bugs
Graphics look bad in Workbench, but hey - who cares about that?
There is a menu, but few menu options actually work. Patches are welcome!

Cid2Mizard proposed the first version of a puzzle game called "Digitory DS", a remake of the flash game of the same name.
    Quote:
You control with the stylus numbered balls on the blue band and need to drag in the 4-way to make money from value to collect and remove the blocks in the center.
Move your ball touching the blue tape, and start reaching your ball.
    You get 5 pts for 1 short, 5 to 10 + 2 are both, 5 + 10 + 15 to 3 are, etc ...
There are currently 15 levels, but ultimately the game will count 60, but not all identical to the flash version.
So you enjoy working in mental calculations.
