Welcome to this week's Movie/Music news roundup, containing new Japanese and Hong Kong Video and Music releases from this week listed at Play-Asia.com. Around 500 new items are covered in this week, including new J-Pop, Anime as well as Japanese, Hong Kong and Western movie releases and much more.

Biohazard Degeneration the 3D animated movie is releasing as DVD's, Blu-Ray Discs and PSP UMDs a week later but the Original Soundtrack is already out for you to prepare yourself for its impact. The cyber rock and punk styles inspire images of charging zombies and ceaseless gun fire.

Besides the exciting zombie infused feature film, the pop animation series Bleach also released their newest Best Album and Character Songs CDs. While the Best Album carries the theme songs the series used between 2006 and 2008, the Character Songs CD features the music talents of the best partners Ichigo and Rukia.

Being a major composer and producer for Bemani games' music, Ueno Keiichi combined forces with his fellow composers and DJs in the beatmania team to produce his newest album Rewind! The newest Beatmania PS2 release IIDX 15 DJ Troopers features quite a number of his pieces, feel the beat and sway to it as you go to school or work.

Besides music, an interesting Hong Kong romantic action film Butterfly Lovers is also released in Blu-Ray Discs and DVD formats.

Butterfly Lovers is the equivalent of Romeo and Juliet in Chinese speaking communities and with a generous blend of sword fighting and action scenes, the film is sure to add a layer of glitter to your Christmas holidays.

While action elements is peripheral to the romantic film, it is the center of attention in Oshii Mamoru's Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Limited Edition. This 2.0 version carries the original version of the film, an audio CD, video clips on the making-of process of the film, promotional footages such as trailers and Japanese/English language options.

If there's one thing Sega excels at, it's releasing the same Sega Genesis games on every platform imaginable. Rich arcade history? What's that?! Saturn? Dreamcast? Never heard of 'em! Here, try these Genesis ports!

Sega's got a slew of rehashes lined up for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, if recent ESRB ratings are right. And they usually are. Comix Zone, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star II, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Golden Axe, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have all been giving the go-ahead by the ratings board.

Yep, some of those already exist as Xbox Live Arcade games, but some are new. Why would Sega ready more individual releases when they've got the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection coming down the pike? The answer is simply "Sega."

The Wii's cheap and sells a ton. The 360's getting cheaper, and sales are picking up. But the poor old PS3? It's expensive, and according to SCEE's David Reeves, will be expensive for a while.

In our Dev Phone 1 excitement last week, we somehow overlooked phoneWreck’s teardown of the T-Mobile G1. The complex slider mechanism is certainly worth looking out. One of the major oddities they point out is the inclusion of two vibration motors. One is mounted next to the SIM on the mainboard. While the other is mounted in the frame next to the earpiece. We wonder what was gained/solved by using two. The phone also includes a digital compass module. We’d like a more detailed explanation of how the Xilinx CPLD is used. From this article in 2006, it seems HTC uses them to generate custom clock signals and switching off devices for power management.

We covered [Steve Chapman]’s Nintendo DS control for his Canon DSLR in September. He’s since improved the software so that it has a timer for sunset/sunrise amongst other things. He also shot about 30GB worth of timelapse images while in Vancouver and assembled a couple test videos. He’s still working out the processing to take full advantage of the 15megapixel images. We look forward to future results since YouTube is now using a much larger player for high def content.
