    While the vast majority of iPhone customers opt for all-inclusive (but expensive) contracts, those miserly pay as you go customers that depend on the $20 MEdia Net unlimited data add-on to save money in the long term will be upset to find that, as of November 12th, they won't have that option. AT&T has decided to end the service, which — though never intended for use with the iPhone — was the sole reason that many people could justify paying the full unsubsidized price, because it was relatively unpopular. The announcement was made in a text sent to MEdia Net users:

    News from Sonys Blog

    Hi everyone. We’ve been listening to all of your feedback about the PS3 and PSP, and with these next firmware updates (coming soon), we’ve added a number of new features and improved some existing functionality to make your PS3/PSP experience even better.

    PSP (v5.00) update
    Let’s start with the v5.00 update for PSP. In this version, you’ll notice the addition of the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB. You can now sign up for PlayStation Network, manage your account and access PlayStation Store directly from your PSP - meaning you can download games directly to your PSP while connected via Wi-Fi. Getting games, demos and trailers while on-the-go has never been easier! Check out the screen below.

    The current PlayStation Store on the PC will be down in the interim as we take some time to revamp. Don’t worry, it will re-launch soon after we’ve made some tweaks. Please keep in mind, if you already have a PlayStation Network account, simply sign in on your PSP using your existing information. The same account and wallet can be used on PS3 and PSP. You will be able to check out the PlayStation Store on the PSP soon, as we’ll have a video demo featuring Grace Chen posted soon on the Blog.

    Update v5.00 adds a sleep timer option that can be used while you are playing music on your PSP. In addition, we’ve added a full screen keyboard option for text entry and have redesigned the background of the XMB. You’ll be able to find all of the information on Firmware v5.00 here once it goes live.

    PS3 (v2.50) update
    Now on to the PS3 v2.50 update. The latest features/enhancements include:

    Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset - we’ve told you about the upcoming Bluetooth Headset and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Bundle on the Blog. This latest firmware installment enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. On top of that, an added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
    PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements - I know that many of you are busy collecting trophies and raising your PlayStation Trophy level. This update makes sharing and comparing your trophies with your friends even easier. On 1st part of the profile page you’ll see a symbol under level that represents level and the actual percentage towards the next level along with the existing level meter. The level symbol carries over to the trophy comparison screen where you will now be able to see your level, your friend’s level and the percentage towards the next level for both users along with all of the game by game comparison information you see today.
    Friend status – Offline friends on your Friends list will have information below their avatars that will indicate how long it has been since they were last online.
    Video – This update adds the Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will break the video up into scenes that you can quickly access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two or five minute intervals. In addition, you can now choose to have all of the videos under the video section of the XMB play in sequence. Go to Settings then Video Settings to turn this option on.
    PlayStation Store – We’ve added a redeem codes option right on the store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. In addition, PlayStation Network Sign Up and Account Management have been redesigned.
    Power Save Settings – You can now set your PS3 and wireless controllers to turn off automatically after set periods of inactivity. Go to Settings then Power Save Settings to turn on these features.
    Background Downloading - You now have the option to set the PS3 to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system from the button under [Users] while content is being downloaded or installed.
    In-game Screenshots - this tool will allow everyone to capture, share and in other words, immortalize their favorite gameplay moments. This will be supported on a game by game basis. Please check back to find out which games will support this feature.
    In addition to all of the features above there are some additional features and enhancements included in 2.50. Once the update launches, you can read all of the details here.
    The support for the Bluetooth Headset will be of particular interest to all of you SOCOM fans. With the “Proximity Chat” feature, SOCOM: Confrontation gameplay is intensified as it allows you to experience high-quality voice playback in full surround sound. Whether the action is near or far, Proximity Chat clearly matches distance to sound effects and voiceovers within the game, putting you in the heart of the action.

    Enjoy and please share your thoughts with us.

    Updated release from Stonebone

    Tetattds is a game for Nintendo DS based on the game Tetris Attack by Nintendo / Intelligent Systems. The aim is to line up three or more panels in a stack to make them ‘pop’. The game is over when the stack reaches the top of the screen. If more than three blocks are removed it is called a ‘combo’. If pieces falling down lines up it is called a ‘chain’.

    What’s new:

    * Network protocol rewritten
    * Support 8 players
    * Fix displaying highscores

    Me and Gustav spent some time during the summer to rewrite the network protocol. Every packet is now smaller which means we can send them much more often. Every client now only sends the changes to the playfield (delta) and also the last seen version of the other players’ fields (ack). The whole field is sent if a new player joins or the delta is so big that it is more efficient to send the whole field. It also sends a new packet directly after reciving a packet from the player on the left. Before it simply sent packets at a fixed interval. The improvement is very noticable with two players.

    Unfortunately the improvement is most apparent when using dswifi (”Internet”). It seems liblobby (”Local”) is not as fast.

    My friends requested that you could see your own field on the upper screen. This is useful after the round is over to look at what you could have done to survive. This would have reduced the number of players to 4, but I’ve added a button (X) to switch the upper screen to show players 5-8. I noticed this doesn’t work very well on Nintendo DS after packaging this release, because I’ve only tested 8 players in the SDL version. Sorry about that. But if you do get 8 people together please let me know.

    News/release from Pac

    Hi everyone!

    I'm new here (and to ds development) and I wanted to get some feedback on this game I've been developing this past week. It's a little FPS, with aliens!
    At this point it's still a work in progress, only 3 levels, very few SFX and just one weapon, but I think there is already enough to show and get some suggestions.

    The controls are:

    pad - move around
    l/r - strafe (yeah, no stylus controls yet)
    a - shoot
    y - reload ( you have unlimited ammo, but have to reload manually)
    start - pause
    select - return to title screen

    In each level there is a blue key hidden that is needed to open the exit door.

    Also, some credits, I used the NitroEngine to help me code this, very nice!

    Ant512 has updated his windows system for the DS, heres whats new:

    Version 0.35 is now out. Changes are listed below. The most significant changes this time around include the addition of a keyboard gadget for text input, cursor support in the TextBox gadget and re-written VBL integration to use a much simpler timer gadget for VBL-based code.
    I've attached a screenshot of the keyboard. It has shift, caps lock and control modifier keys, and the full 7-bit ASCII set of symbols (ie. a fairly standard American keyboard layout).
    There are two new example projects. One illustrates how to use the new timer, whilst the other shows how to use the keyboard.

    - Fixes:
    - Renamed "Textbox" to "TextBox".
    - Corrected case of "PackedFontBase.h" include in "packedfontbase.cpp"
    (thanks Gattman, bug 2101099).
    - Removed offcolour pixels from around @ symbol in sysfont bitmap.
    - Moved @ symbol in tinyfont.bmp to correct ASCII location.
    - SkinnedWindows move to front when clicked.
    - Renamed TextBox::TextPositionXXX to TextAlignmentXXX, along with all
    related functions and similar in MultiLineTextBox and ScrollingTextBox.
    - TextBox::addText() was allocating one byte too many when concatenating
    strings.
    - Renamed addText() to appendText() in TextBox, MultiLineTextBox and
    ScrollingTextBox classes.
    - Text::wrap() correctly wraps text rows with no break points.
    - Fixed const-correctness of some Font (and subclass) methods.

    - New Features:
    - Button has different appearance when disabled.
    - CheckBox has different appearance when disabled.
    - ContextMenuItem has different appearance when disabled.
    - CycleButton has different appearance when disabled.
    - RadioButton has different appearance when disabled.
    - Added WoopsiKeyboard gadget.
    - Added all missing 7-bit ASCII glyphs to sysfont.
    - Added keyboard example.
    - Added TextBox::appendText(char).
    - Added TextBox::setText(char).
    - Added MultiLineTextBox::appendText(char).
    - Added MultiLineTextBox::setText(char).
    - Added ScrollingTextBox::addText(char).
    - Added ScrollingTextBox::setText(char).
    - Added WoopsiTimer gadget.
    - Woopsi::registerForVBL() and Woopsi::unregisterFromVBL() now only work
    with timers; all VBL code now is handled with timer gadgets.
    - Removed EVENT_VBL event.
    - Removed Gadget::vbl().
    - AnimButton automatically animates as it has as built-in timer gadget.
    - Added missing glyphs to tinyfont.bmp.
    - Added timer example.
    - Added cursor functionality to TextBox.
    - Added GraphicsPort::drawFilledXORRect().
    - Added GraphicsPort::drawLine() and associated clipping functions.
    - Added WoopsiString class and replaced string handling code in TextBox.
    - Added Label gadget as a base class for TextBox and Button; can be used as
    a read-only, borderless text display gadget.
    - Text inherits from WoopsiString class.
    - Added MultiLineTextBox::removeText() methods.
    - TextBox border bevelled both out and in.

    There are plenty of new features coming with the New Xbox Experience when it launches on November 19, but one that won't be included is the ability to share movies and photos with your friends online. But according to Xbox director of marketing Albert Penello, that's a feature that could easily be added in the future thanks to the soon-to-be revamped structure of the Xbox dashboard.
    When asked by MTV Multiplayer (via Joystiq) whether the ability to have online movie parties -- perhaps by sharing streaming Netflix movies with other friends who are also Netflix members -- would eventually be added to the service, Penello simply answered, "Yes. Those types of things are certainly the aspiration."

    One major change the new Xbox dashboard is bringing is that it'll make the service entirely server-based. This means it'll be far easier for Microsoft to add these types of new features in the future, as they can be plugged in without having to issue a new patch.

    "You know, we talked about photo sharing," said Xbox senior strategist Rob Gruhl. "That's something that, hey, if we want to do photo sharing, we just build that app, drop it in, party enable it and we're good to go. If we wanted to do movie sharing, build an app, party enable it, drop it in. Really, it's [the new dashboard] just laying the foundation for our next wave, our next step. Continuing to fill it out, continuing to build it."

    Makes you wonder what other sort of features Microsoft may have planned for the future...

    Been a long while since an offcial update of PSposte, heres the details:

    PSPoste is the first fully functional email application for the Sony PSP. It supports the SMTP and POP3 protocols (possible future IMAP support), and provides a skinnable user interface allowing the user to retrieve, compose and display messages from multiple email servers. Several input methods are included with PSPoste, choose the one best suited for you.

    PSPoste requires a PSP with firmware version 1.0 or 1.5 and access to a wireless access point (802.11b) that provides internet access. Support for other firmware versions may be possible, but we have only tested on v1.5 PSPs.

    Here's a list of what's changed in Beta 7:

    Support more IR keyboards by using the pspirkeyb library, see PSPoste/Data/pspirkeyb/ for configuration of your keyboard.
    Better random number generation for TLS based connections, acknowledgements to Zx81 for his work on PSPSSH and Theodore Tso for the original RNG work.
    On first start, users will be prompted to press buttons randomly to generate the random seed file.
    Use the extra RAM of the PSP Slim.
    Fix a crash when opening the settings window when no network connections are defined.
    Fix another crash opening the settings window that would occur randomly.
    Fix a bug in the logging mechanism that meant errors and output weren't properly being written out to the log files.
    Fix a problem connecting using a manually configured WPA connection.
    Make the cursor visible at all times while typing (as opposed to blinking throughout).
    Explicitly load the IrDA module so IR Keyboards work on firmwares > 3.03OE.
    Adjust heap and thread stack sizes.
    Fix some memory leaks and uninitialzed variables.
    Set the timezone to whatever the PSP has configured.
    General notes:

    Thanks to Zx81 for his initial implementation of pspirkeyb in PSPoste and for the PSPSSH RNG.
    See the bottom of this post for links to our forums/bugs/feature requests
    INSTALL/UPGRADE NOTES:

    FW15: Unzip PSPoste_Beta7_FW15.zip into your PSP/GAME (PSP/GAME150 for m33 users) directory. Existing settings, contacts and mail will be preserved.
    FW4x: Unzip PSPoste_Beta7_FW4x.zip into your PSP/GAME4XX directory.
    Upgrading from FW15 to FW4x: Rename your existing __SCE__PSPoste to PSPoste, move it to PSP/GAME4XX, then unzip PSPoste_Beta7_FW4x.zip into PSP/GAME4XX. You can delete %__SCE__PSPoste.
    Notes on mirroring: we would appreciate if sites did not mirror our releases, but instead link to the "Files" section (or "PSPoste" package) on our sourceforge project page. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

    thanks to nintendomax for the news tip:

    News /release from Gaz

    Jazzier Suite, is a new project I am working on for the Nintendo DS. The program will aid musicians in improving their ability to recognise pitch, read music and to stabilise timing, as not to speed up or slow down whilst playing songs. There will also be a number of tools implemented to help aid in composition and performance. Some of these have already been implemented in the first release, such as, the delay calculator and tap tempo features on the metronome.
