The official website for the N-Gage-exclusive fighting game ONE has launched. Incidentally, this new site is dedicated to the next gen version of the game, rather than the original gen version. The new site is thankfully much less cryptic than the incomprehensible old website.

Nokia and THQ Wireless Inc. (wholly owned by THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI), a leading publisher of mobile games, announced an agreement to bring Team17's Worms World Party to a range of Nokia devices through the N-Gage games service.

Adam Comiskey - International VP THQ Wireless commented, "Worms has always been a great success on mobile devices and the N-Gage technology has allowed us to produce the most advanced, faithful and visually impressive mobile edition of Worms to date."

"Worms is an excellent fit with the new N-Gage service," added Gregg Sauter, Director of 3rd party publishing, Nokia. "N-Gage is all about fun games that are easy to pick up and hard to put down - which is the Worms experience in a nutshell."

Worms World Party will be massively updated from its original, award-winning N-Gage version and includes vibrant graphics allowing the player to visualize enemy terrain, while retaining all of the functionality in a reduced size. With N-Gage's enhanced 3D gaming capabilities, Worms World Party levels sport a slick new look including the much-loved, hilarious Worm animations. New for this outing is the addition of the zany Worms voice taunts which really bring the game to life.

Worms World Party features six level themes inspired by the best of the Worms series featuring the hot lava fields of hell, the freezing ice caverns, an arid desert, pirate islands, alien space worlds and tribal rock environments. Fans will also enjoy all the classic weapons, including the Super Sheep and the much fabled Holy Hand-Grenade.

On N-Gage Arena, up to four players can compete with one another across the globe with online death-match gaming. Online options will include matchmaking to help easily find people to play, a friends list and a high-score leaderboard.

Worms World Party also takes advantage of the new N-Gage Points feature that rewards skilful players for in-game achievements such as battling enemies and retaining all their Worm crew, or blasting multiple adversary Worms in a single move.

Worms World Party for N-Gage is expected to be available in the first half of 2008. ...

    News/release from Spinal:

I have been working on a small movie player based on work by Eponasoft and nicoco73. I originally intended to make Eponasofts converter a bit quicker, but ended up changing the movie format and adding a couple of extras.

Format-wise it is similar to Eponasoft's media format, using jpg images for the frames and uncompressed audio. It uses ffmpeg to convert the movies, so almost any format can be converted (I have already tested mpg, vob, flv(youtube) anbd a few others. You can skip back and forward using the << and >> buttons and you can seek by tapping the progress bar. Pleas not though, you may need to hold the stylus down for a short period, as a lot of the processing power is taken up by the decoding.

Anyway, I'm having a little trouble getting the timing right (you might hear a slight clicking in the audio), so if anyone wants to help, please do.

Here is the Movie Player with scource and converter, also an Example movie file converted from a youtube clip.

    News/release from ScottMcfly:

Since this is the fourth release of this, I've decided to stop calling it "My First Homebrew", as it's actually starting to take shape now and I don't need that excuse anymore

So here's Version 0.4! Main additions in this release:

    * A basic stats page has been added to help you keep track of your win/draw/loss record and how many blackjack's you've racked up. These reset when you return to the main menu.

    * The background has now been extended over both screens, so the top screen is now no longer just black, which makes it look a lot better IMO.

    * The buttons now fade-out when going to the next page to add a bit of polish to the game.

    * If the player gets blackjack, the dealer will no longer take any cards (as there's no point!) unless they're on a 10 or an ace in which case they take one more card to check if they have blackjack too.

    * General tweaks to the split card system in regards to giving you new cards and how they appear on screen.

    * And finally a nice sound effect on button presses, the first piece of audio to make it into a release, hooray!

As I mentioned, there's a lot of transparency now used in the game with the buttons and the white strip behind the player and dealer scores. So make sure the emulator you're playing on supports it or it'll just look weird, but as always I recommend playing on actual hardware for the full experience.

Now, with the background now on the top screen, I had to add some white strips to make the scores visible, which isn't ideal and I don't like the way it looks quite frankly. But this is only temporary, and I have plans for the next release that will mean they won't be needed anymore.

As for that next release, I'll be expanding the stats page, hopefully improving the graphics on the top screen some more and perhaps get some instructions written up so that people unfamiliar with the game can learn to play!

Any feedback is appreciated, hope you enjoy it!

French game developer Nobilis knows what the young ladies want. They want to learn all about making them babies - the cute, collectible mini-humans you can grow inside your own body! While I've got no real information outside of the April release in Europe for their upcoming My Baby Boy and My Baby Girl games, which split babies up into two different sexes to reflect the fact that women can always choose which they prefer, the introduction to the website has to be seen to be believed. Starting off all black with a video clip of an ultrasound, I thought this might be a real, honest-to-goodness realistic look at pregnancy and childbirth. Then the above image pops up, and my hopes are dashed. What we need is a baby raising game with a distraught, bedraggled woman sitting on the floor, up to her wrists in baby poop. I suppose I can dream.

In the wake of the NIU shooting and various pundits finding ways to link violent video games to the tragedy, MSNBC has decided to defend video games, specifically calling out infamous attorney Jack Thompson for his self promotion during school shootings. (They have done this once before during the Virginia Tech massacre.)

In a piece entitled "Playing the blame game: Why search our souls when video games make such an easy scapegoat?" MSNBC's Winda Benedetti writes, "Faster than you can say wild speculation and reckless sensationalism, [Thompson] leapt in front of Fox News cameras and suggested that video games were to blame." Later, Benedetti adds, "The fact is, one would be hard pressed to find a young man of Kazmierczak's age who has not played video games."

Thompson is, unsurprisingly, a bit put out. In an email to MSNBC legal department forwarded to us by Thompson, the Miami attorney asserted his intention to "bring a civil action in state court in Flordia for libel." Thompson further called the two articles "hit pieces" and "crazed and libelous screed" and mentions that NBC did not mind having him on the Today Show / NBC Nightly news about ten times.

"But once my criticism began to inconvenience Bill Gates' NBC partner, Microsoft, (MSNBC.com is a 50/50 partnership) then all of a sudden I'm the Anti-Christ," said Thompson.

Brace yourself Gizmondo fans, for it seems that not all of Carl Freer's recent prognostications about the resurrection of the ill-fated handheld are exactly coming to pass. While he apparently is still intent on bringing the handheld back from the dead, he now tells Swedish journalist Hans Sandberg that he was being "too optimistic" with the stated May 2008 launch date, and that it should now be available "by the end of 2008." That deal with Plextek to build the new device apparently is still in place, however, and Freer's "co-pilot" in this latest endeavor, Mikael Ljungman, is reportedly on his way to China this week to check out the manufacturing operations. Needless to say, we'll be keeping you posted on any future developments, or future delays.
