A thousand workers rioted at Foxconn’s iPhone factory in China earlier this week.
The Daily Mail reported that on Monday night employees from the Foxconn plant in Chengdu, China, clashed with security guards who were attempting to stop a thief. Dozens were arrested during the two-hour riot, which broke out on a dormitory of the plant.
It is reported that rioters threw trash cans, office furniture, bottles and fireworks from the upper floors of an on-site male dormitory. The thief is said to have been an employee with a grudge against the company over pay.
Foxconn is an Apple partner and manufactures components for iPhone and iPad. The company has come under fire in the past for allegedly forcing staff to work long hours in unsafe conditions and for low pay.
Along with this, back in 2010 it was reported that fourteen Foxconn employees committed suicide in just 11 months. This prompted investigations by several of its customers including Apple, Dell and HP.

Apple is attempting to have sales of the Samsung Galaxy S3 banned in the United States, alleging that the device infringes on patents.
CNet reports that the US vendor has decided to launch yet another patent infringement lawsuit after the device went on sale in the UK last month and a few weeks before the scheduled US launch dates.
Apparently, two software related patents have allegedly been violated, one covering unified search and the other covering links.
“It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging, This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas,” said an Apple statement.
However, Samsung has rejected the allegations as being “without merit”.
“We will vigorously oppose the request and demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S III is innovative and distinctive,” said a Samsung spokesman. “We would also like to assure consumers that the U.S. launch and sales of the Galaxy S III will proceed as planned. The Galaxy S III has already been highly received in markets where it has been introduced. Samsung looks forward to bringing the Galaxy S III to the U.S., and we believe that Apple's actions would only serve to disrupt consumers' access to the latest innovative mobile technology.”

New microfluidic panel tech raises shapes from the surface on demand.
Tactus Technology is behind the 'Tactile Layer' panel that enables touchscreen device users to summon physical buttons on request, which then retract back into the surface when no longer required.
The firm has made its first public demo – on an Android tablet – and it claims the layer is completely flat, transparent, and adds no extra thickness to the standard touchscreen display, allowing users to operate the buttons as they would do on a regular keyboard.
It's an interesting concept, given that most smartphone buyers are restricted to BlackBerry for physical keyboards, with the majority of devices being rolled out only featuring a touchscreen.
Mark Hamblin, Founder & CTO of Touch Revolution – Tactus partner – said: "We are looking forward to seeing new mobile and consumer devices using our combined technologies in 2013."

This is a bold projection from IDC, given that the WinPho's share currently sits at just 5.2 per cent, while iOS is on 20.5 per cent.
It says these shares are due to change respectively to 19.2 per cent and 19 per cent in the next five years.
So the WinPho lead will be very slight, but it's still a lead, and it's important for fledgling Nokia, as its devices in emerging markets are set to drive the share increase.
What makes it even more audacious is that the first tranche of Nokia Lumia devices has not been an overwhelming success, and the firm is still focused on Symbian in developing markets.
IDC reckons Android will continue to dominate the market, although its share will fall from 61 per cent to 52.9 per cent, while BlackBerry will have a minimal loss from six per cent to 5.9 per cent.

Well, we can't exactly say we saw this one coming. Microsoft has today taken the wraps off a rather ambitious project dubbed on{X}, which is available exclusively for Android smartphones initially (support for more platforms is planned), and offers a range of tools that promise to help "automate your life." Developed by the company's R&D Center in Israel, the service consists of a website and an app, the former of which lets you select from a variety of scripts (or "recipes," as Microsoft calls them), while the latter executes them on your phone. The kicker is that anyone can create their own recipes and share them with others, and they can take all of the capabilities of a smartphone into account -- performing an action when you arrive at a specific location, for instance, or setting reminders based on the weather forecast (all the actual processing is handled on the phone). Much like Kinect, Microsoft is hoping that folks will take the platform and run with it, developing new features that it hasn't even thought of. Those interested can get started right now at the source link below, or get a taste of the service in the video after the break.

    2. Wii U News

The battery life of the Wii U's GamePad controller has been fully detailed by Nintendo, with a single charge expected to last between three to five hours.
A charge takes two and a half hours, though it can be played when charging via an AC adaptor.
The full, official specs also confirmed that the GamePad weighs in at 500g and boasts a 6.2 inch LCD screen and stereo sound.
The battery life is dependent on the brightness of the screen.
Nintendo's blurb on the Wii U GamePad in full:
"The Wii U GamePad controller removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. It incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio LCD touch screen, as well as traditional button controls and two analog sticks.
"Inputs include a +Control Pad, L/R sticks, L/R stick buttons, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons, ZL/ZR buttons, Power button, HOME button, -/SELECT button, +/START button, and TV CONTROL button.
"The GamePad also includes motion control (powered by an accelerometer, gyroscope and geomagnetic sensor), a front-facing camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, rumble features, a sensor bar, an included stylus and support for Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality.
"It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and weighs approximately 1.1 pounds (500 g)."

    2. Xbox 360 News

24 hours on and both media and fans have had plenty of time to chew over Microsoft's 2012 E3 press conference, and it's fair to say that not all of the commentary has been entirely positive. With that in mind, Eurogamer sat down with Chris Lewis, vice president of interactive entertainment for Xbox Europe, to find out how Microsoft itself views its performance and the ensuing public reaction."I think [the response has been] largely very positive," he said."I get the opportunity to talk to a lot of journalists from around the region, and analysts as well, and generally people are really positive about what we had to say."People love this mission that we're on to make the whole entertainment experience ever more amazing. They love the line up. I think people are blown away by the quality of the content, the breadth and depth of the games. Not only our own - we're unashamedly pushing pretty hard around Halo 4, Forza, Fable, Gears of course - but we've always done very well with our partnerships with third party publishers."So yes, generally I've had very good feedback," he continued."There's no doubt that Smart Glass has captured folks' imaginations, and in a good way. People love the browser, I think they're impressed with what we've got in terms of content partnerships and entertainment relationships. There's more to come of course, but we're happy."Lewis isn't oblivious to the criticism from some sections of the community, but argued that Microsoft is doing it's very best to keep the core happy while at the same time offering a range of broader content."We have an embarrassment of riches right now," he explained."In the lead up to the show we have to think really hard about what we can show at a practical level versus this desire to put everything in there because we're so proud of everything we have."The hardcore community defined us - there's no doubt. That community defines where we are now and we continue to bring great content to them - Halo 4, Gears. And the success we enjoy on our platform with Call of Duty is very clearly focused on continuing to bring content to that audience."But there's a lot more that we have to talk about too. Our consumers want Xbox 360 to offer broad digital entertainment, whether that's music, TV, sports or indeed games - both casual through Kinect or otherwise."I think it's about bringing that portfolio to an event like this and trying to cater to the different audiences that we want to appeal to. We want to be where our community wants us to be, and they want us to be in those places."One aspect of the show that surprised many viewers was how quickly it glossed over unknown quantity Gears of War: Judgement in a matter of seconds, while spending five minutes showcasing casual XBLA effort Wreckateers. Wasn't that an odd decision?"I didn't think it about that way," answered Lewis."We have such a strong base of fans for that whole epic Gears experience that we know it speaks volumes for itself."Finally, we quizzed Lewis on why we didn't get a glimpse of its next home console during this year's show. He answered that, with its current system still performing so well, it's focus remains on the 360."The lifestyle is longer than has been the case in the past but that allows developers to bring content they might not otherwise have been able to bring, as it pushes the boundaries out."We've still got so much more to do with this generation. We think we're in an enviable position. We're fixated on 360 and we love the fact that it's in such a momentous state still."
