    With thanks to diceone for the rather spiffy logo and as usual thanks to Soully and Martin for the webdesign and PHP, im glad to say that Visual Dev our Art and Design News Site for DCEmu is now open. The community of Artists at DCEmu gets bigger all the time and the Homebrew scene needs a decent Art and Design community to help those coding the programs we use everyday.

    Now its time for Malksta and others to really push the Art and Design Community at DCEmu.

    We've had our eye on Burnout Dominator for a while now: it has pretty looks, and features new content made exclusively for PSP and PS2. But, we were worried: maybe the game looks too much like the previous Burnout games? Surely, explosive car gameplay can't get old ... or can it? Let's see what the critics had to say:

    IGN (85/100) thinks it ups the ante from previous Burnout titles ... almost: "The racing is just as adrenaline pumping as it's ever been, and possibly even more so than what we saw in Burnout Revenge as you need to be afraid of traffic once again. However, the lack of standard features and modes like Crash are a rather big disappointment."

    Gamespot (82/100) doesn't think Dominator revolutionizes the series, but thinks it's still good: "Burnout Dominator is more Burnout, and that's great. It may not have all the newfangled bells and whistles that you'd want from a sequel, but if you're a fan of the series who absolutely must have new tracks as soon as possible, Dominator should satisfy you nicely."

    GameSpy (60/100) thinks it's a clear step backwards for the franchise: "Rather than another true entry in the series, Dominator is a simple C-grade mashup."

    You've seen the footage, so you should be able to decide for yourself: does this throwback to the earlier Burnout games do it for you? At least one thing's agreed upon by all three of these critics: get the PSP version instead of the PS2. It looks more impressive, and has slightly more functionality than the console counterpart. ...

    Jasper Vijn has released a new image converterfor the GBA(ds too), heres the info:

    Yay, yet another image converter. Do we really need another one? Well maybe, maybe not. As far as I can tell there are two very complete gfx exporters right now: gfx2gba (by Markus, not
    the other one) and cog (by OneManBand). The second one seems not to be available anymore, and the first one wasn't quite able to do what
    I wanted. Also, both of these are pure command-line tools. Wingit is a GUI tool, making it easier to get started. The main view offers a preview of the image you want to export, which is always nice.
    There's a palette viewer too. By using FreeImage, it can read pretty much every kind of image (yes, GIFs too). As for the exporter itself, I've pretty much crammed it full of options. There are separate sections for palette, image and map control, which include cropping the exported image, various bitdepths (including 1 and 2bpp for use BitUnpack) compression and tile-set reduction. There are also options for tile-grouping, not only can this be beneficial for sprites in 1d mode, but you can also
    use it to create meta-maps of arbitrary sizes. The output file(s) can be C, GNU asm or binary, a header file is optional and there are choices between u8, u16, and u32 type-sizes. Naturally, the variable name can be altered independently from the file-name.

    While the program is useful as is, there is always room for more. There are a few other things I'd like to add, like vertical map layout, batching options, merging palettes and tilesets, and an extra
    output format or two. And, of course, proper documentation. But I'd also like to get back to real GBA stuff so I'm leaving it as is for now.
    Btw, if you would like to see things like this added, the source code is freely available, so why not try it yourself? (Then again, seeing my code...)

    New release from nielkie of his Wave Modification app for the PSP:

    New version! I have added support for Wave speed, as well as duration and texture strength. (I haven't tested the latter)

    There will probably be some problems, because I haven't had time to test it properly (2:30 AM).

    Mac version will come when the source code of rcotool gets released.

    So what is Marshmallow Duel? If you've never heard of it before, it could best be explained as a Super Smash Bros. type game, but from an earlier era and stranger minds.

    Marshmallow Duel DS is a complete rewrite and evolution of the original Marshmallow Duel, designed for the Nintendo DS console. It is a 2 player deathmatch game of luck and skill where each player tries to knock their opponent into the deadly marshmallow pit or destroy them with one of the 18 weapons that randomly spawn in the map.
