    New release from Sebzz:

    Hi guys,

blackspeed measures the psp-internal performance of your memorystick pro duo.
I have added a little gui to the app to visualize the results.

please share your results with the public (post your logfile after you have run the tests) and dont forget to add your vendor data.

The PerformanceIndex will tell you how fast your Stick is compared to the 32 MB Duo Pro that came with your psp. The 32 MB MS Duo Pro has an Index of 1.00. So if your Strick has around 6.6 it will mean that the tests run on your stick 6.6 times faster.

    thx

    News from the DS-X Team

    Hello everyone,

By popular demand, we recently feature-froze the OS development, and began preparing for release. While there are still quite a few additional features still in development which we had originally planned for 1.1.0, there had to come a point where we said "This is enough!" and put out what was done for the world to use.

Demand for this update has been high, but we think you'll find it was worth the wait. We've covered some of the most highly demanded feature requests, fixed a few of the most problematic bugs, and implemented some incredibly cool new functionality which opens even more doors towards making the DS-Xtreme the most feature rich and flexible product available on the market.

Probably the most noticeable change is our entirely new look and feel. While we were fond of our original skin, we felt that it was important to take our skinning engine a step further, and provide as much of a sleek, crisp, clean user experience as possible. The old skin isn't gone forever, however... we've kept it available for posterity's sake, and you can find it in the new skin selection options available in settings.

While you're there in settings, you may notice the new "Preset Directories" option available there. This is a feature which has been requested time and again on forums, and we felt we would be remiss in our duties if we hadn't implemented it. Enabling this option will restrict the searching for applications to the "Apps" directory only, the searching of music to the "Music" directory only, and the searching of SkinApps to the "SkinApps" directory. This will make search times substantially faster, further improving your experience with the DS-Xtreme.

Did I hear someone say "What are SkinApps?"

This brings us to my personal favorite new feature in 1.1.0, Skin-Engine Applications, or SkinApps. A SkinApp is a fully self contained application written using our skinning engine's functionality. Our hope is that this will pave the way for a whole series of DS-Xtreme powered homebrew games and applications, scripted in our expanding skinning/media engine. To help foster development in this area, and to give everyone some starting points to work from, we've included 3 sample SkinApps.... a calculator, an expansive sudoku engine (including the first DS-Xtreme on-screen-keyboard!), and a classic staple of gaming - a pong clone!

We still have quite a few things in development, and will be releasing updates at a slightly faster pace from here as we finish each item on the list. Keep those suggestions and ideas coming!

This update brings software version to 1.1.0, and hardware version to 1.0.1.

As this release includes quite a few skinning changes, it is important to add the "public partition" files from http://news.ds-x.com/ to your ds-x drive after the update!

    Software Change-log:
+Multiple skin selection/support (Holding B during startup forces system backup skin to be loaded)
    +Entirely new skin!

    +Scroll-bar widget

    -New loading and top screen

-Cosmetic change to App loading transition
-Previous (1.0.x) skin is now available as "OS10"
    + "Preset" directories searching option
+ "SkinApps" Skin engine based applications support

    +Sudoku, Pwng, and Calculator examples
    * Instant boot MBR handling bug fixed
    * Instant boot LED handling bug fixed
    * Better eeprom emulation mode detection
    * Fixed an issue with graphics engine display quality (line skipping)
    * Dpad release events are now properly placed into event queue

    Hardware Change-log:
    * Resolved QKIN timing issue
    - Changed default IO state on CPU bus which should help improve reliability all-around.

    + Addition
    * Bug fix
    - Change

    Peace,
    Leto

Like the early days of the DS, the Wii still hasn't really found its own identity just yet. Still lacking a Brain Training or a Nintendogs, minigames are de rigeur on the system at the moment. Certainly the Wiimote is well suited for minigames, and it's been hoped that it will breathe some new life into a rather tired Nintendo franchise. Yup, Mario Party 8.

Joystiq got to play an incomplete version of the "ocho" at the Osaka leg of Japan's World Hobby Fair. Six different minigames were on display:

Lasso the barrels: Swing the lasso (Wiimote) in a circle, once you've got some momentum going, throw the lasso forward, grabbing a barrels for points (don't throw Wiimote). Some barrels are worth more points than others.
Ball tilt: Balls fall from ceiling. Direct bouncing balls to their correct container by rotating the wiimote. Green on the left, and purple on the right.
Drink shaking: Simply shake the Wiimote up and down; fastest shaker wins.
Target shooting: Just as in Wii Play, shoot targets with your Wiimote. The high score zone constantly changes so you have to think fast.
Jet ski jumps: Move your jet skier to the ramps to pick up coins. The challenge comes from the difficult controls.
Crank turning: Turn a crank as fast you can. Exactly the same as the similar WarioWare minigame.
Overall, the minigames were solid and fun, if not a tad on the simple side. If the board game side of things (not shown in this early version) is a winner, this could be a fun party game, if not an inventive one. They don't have their Brain Training yet. ...

Well, we've all been clamoring for Sony to adjust the ridiculous price of their Playstation 3, and they've finally gone ahead changed it for us. Oh, just a couple of notes before you get excited: the price change is only effective in Canada, and it's a $50 increase. Yeah, you Canucks were getting off easy only having to pay $649 of your funny money for a PS3. The new price of $699 should suit you much better.

Oh, and it also appears that they've removed all 20GB models from the Canadian market as well. Is there a more anti-consumer company than Sony out there? Seriously, it's like they're trying to agitate their customers. Next they'll announce that in order to buy a PS3 you need to submit to a solid kick to the balls before leaving the store. ...

Next-gen auto enthusiasts are still waiting for the first car tuning simulation to get out of neutral. With the Gran Turismo series taking a pass on a full release until Gran Turismo 5, the first next-gen hyper-detailed racer is setting up to be Forza Motorsport 2, developed by Microsoft Game Studios.

Car racing photgraphers all deal with bad cases of vertigo.
Provided the game isn't beset with another delay, Forza Motorsport 2 will hit the streets of North America this May, says Microsoft. The game was originally scheduled for a November 2006 release.

"Our schedule right now has us hitting Xbox certification around the middle of April and going gold soon afterwards," says Forza community representative Che Chou. "We want them to put the game on shelves as soon and fast as they can humanly muster. So optimistic estimates have us at retail in the first half of May--obviously the sooner the better and that's our goal."

Microsoft also revealed the 12 tracks that will be featured in the game: Mugello Autodromo Internazionale, Suzuka Circuit, Sebring International Raceway, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Tsukuba Circuit, Road Atlanta, Silverstone Circuit, Nürburgring Nordschleife, Maple Valley Raceway, Sunset Peninsula Infield, New York Circuit, and Test Track.

Following the announcement of the European PS3 launch details earlier this week, big name publishers have been showing strong support for Sony's next-generation console.

Adam Roberts, MD for Vivendi Northern Europe, told GamesIndustry.biz, "Confirmation of the European release date for the PlayStation 3 is excellent news for the industry as a whole.

"We at Vivendi Games are very excited to be a part of the launch plans, and also about bringing F.E.A.R to a fresh audience at the start of 2007," he continued, referring to Vivendi's PS3 launch title.

"We're equally enthusiastic about the prospects this new platform will bring to the UK market in the future."

Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto confirmed that company has two Final Fantasy games in development for PS3, observing that the series has been highly successful on Sony platforms in the past.

"We are developing Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII using the full power of the PlayStation 3 and hope to make them the best games we have ever released," he said, adding, "We expect the PlayStation 3 to sell very well in the UK, Europe and other PAL territories."

Meanwhile, Ubisoft UK managing director Rob Cooper welcomed confirmation of a March launch date for PS3, stating, "We are looking forward to fully exploiting the PS3's technological advances to deliver ever more immersive and creative gaming experiences to our fans.

"It's now our job to offer games that explore the new creative landscapes the PS3 has opened to us." Ubisoft will publish four PS3 games on launch day - Blazing Angels, Enchanted Arms, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Oblivion.

Konami has no titles down for a release on March 23 and has so far kept quiet about its PS3 plans, with the exception of confirming Metal Gear Solid 4. However, UK PR and marketing manager Jon Murphy told GI.biz that the publisher is will offer full support for all three next-gen platforms.

"Konami naturally hopes for a successful launch for any new hardware," he said.

"The release of PlayStation 3 will see a number of exciting projects over the coming months, including the highly anticipated MGS4, and Konami's commitment to creating exciting games for PlayStation 3 is as strong as it is for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii systems."

The PlayStation 3 will launch in Europe on March 23, priced at GBP 425 / EUR 599 for the 60GB model. ...

Ahead of the public beta for Halo 3, the website I Love Bees has come back online. Could it be the beginning of an underground Halo 3 movement?

The I Love Bees website originally popped into our existence around the build up to the first images being released on Halo 2. It confused most people (us included) but the seriously hardcore Halo and Bungie fans out there went on to crack all sorts of codes the website threw at people whole viewed the site.

Well, it looks like it's back and it's as strange as we remember. Come Monday people will have figured that it's a countdown to something special or at least revealing something about Halo 3 in some form.

We're confused already by just looking at it. Does it make sense to you? Write your thoughts in the comments section below. This is going to be better than The Da Vinci Code!
