With its Japanese and US launch just days away, a selection of new Elebits shots - Konami's intriguing new hide 'n' seek game for Wii - has come out of hiding.

Elebits are curious little creatures that act as the game world's source of energy, so things go pear-shaped when they decide to go on strike. What makes it worse is that the cheeky 'Bits have hidden themselves as well.

The job of the gamer is to try to find the Elebits using the unique capabilities of the Wii-mote, which allows you to push, pull and lift objects while you undergo the search. As more Elebits are found more power is restored to the world which means more implements can be used in the search.

There will be a multiplayer option allowing up to four gamers to compete with each other to see who can find the most Elebits within a time limit. It also seems you'll be able to take photos of your 'Bits to send to a friend.

A radio gag offering a PlayStation 3 for any listeners who gave up their kids backfired on the radio show's host as over a dozen listeners rang up to accept the offer.

Dave Ryan, the host of Minnesota's KDWB morning show, said that he would give a PS3 to anyone who would hand over their baby for 24 hours. But what was supposed to be a joke mocking just how far people would be prepared to go to get a PS3, was taken seriously by many listeners.

Those who rang up included a woman prepared to let her child go for three days saying that she was going to sell the PS3 to save money for holidays. The ages of the children varied with a one-month-old baby being offered up in exchange for the next-gen console. ...

"We will sell everything we make, so now it's a manufacturing thing"

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has said that the company is on track to ship 4 million Wii units by the end of the year - and could even exceed that figure.

Speaking at the Reuters Media Summit he said, "All systems are go for reaching the 4 million target we have in our financials by December 31. We will sell everything we make so now it's simply a manufacturing thing."

According to Fils-Aime, Nintendo could well beat its sales targes for the Wii - but he added that it would be "challenging based on manufacturing capacity".

During the summit, Fils-Aime also touched upon the subject of a much older Nintendo product - the GBA.

"We think that Game Boy Advance certainly has at least one more holiday season left in it," he said.

"For us, it continues to be a great stepping stone for five, six, seven year-old consumers to have their first great handheld gaming experience and then transition right into DS."

Fils-Aime said the GBA has enjoyed "just as good a selling season so far" as the Nintendo DS, with more third-party titles still to come over the next nine months. ...

The PAL version of Nintendo Wii will ship with a boxed version of Wii Sports rather than a bare disc as it did in the US, we can confirm.

Another thing to note about the PAL Wii is that when it connects to the net and looks for an update patch, it claims the system's up to date, which ought to put your mind at ease if you've found yourself gripped with anxiety about reports of bricked consoles since the US launch.

Some more quick PAL Wii trivia then? Well, it's possible to make quite an impressive Kristan avatar (yellow shirt, ginger hair, eyes closed to the truth etc.), and Wii Sports tennis appears to be much more interesting than the novelty some had predicted. Watch out for more soon! ...

You may have heard a rumor floating about the internet that the Zune would adopt an incentive-based distribution system. The idea, supposedly, is that each song sent to your Zune-toting buddy that he/she decided to buy at your recommendation would earn you a small reward (think Zune Marketplace Points) for promoting and sharing legal digital music. Good Morning Silicon Valley revived the discussion on Wednesday, and points out that J Allard recently discussed the system at the Music Tech Summit in Seattle, but Microsoft has made no official remarks on the topic. Well we went digging through the US Patent and Trade Office site and came across a 2003 filing from Redmond that describes a very similar system that says "The first license also specifies the conditions upon which the content may be redistributed and licensed for use on a second device" and that "these conditions may specify a price for the second license, and/or a requirement that a portion of the purchase price be paid back to the owner of the first license, and/or a requirement that the first license be revoked upon creation of the second license." GMSV also says that there seems to be some confusion about the role of Shared Media Licensing, the parent company of Weedshare.com, which apparently has a very similar patent. Still, the question remains, if this really exists, when's Redmond going to let it see the light of day? ...

With PS3 just around the corner sporting its fancy Blu-ray movie functions, Microsoft has stepped up with the release of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player - a diddy little add-on which sits discretely alongside Microsoft's daddy console offering full play back of the new high-definition movie format.

Upon emptying the box we had no trouble setting up our unit. After pushing aside PSW's gargantuan PlayStation 3 and hogging their fancy new telly, it was simply a job of hooking up Microsoft's console as normal, rigging the HD-DVD player with the included USB cable, and then plugging it in to the wall.

The player itself comes with a generous assortment of accessories for its attractive £129.99 price point, including all the plugs and leads you need to hook it up, an update disk to ready your dashboard for the oncoming new-media assault, a fully-sized universal media remote and a HD-DVD copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong - throw in a six-pack of Stella and this the hardware bargain of the year.

Updating your dashboard with HD-DVD support requires hooking up the drive, inserting the disc into your console and then an insanely quick install time of less than 5 seconds marks completition.

With installation behind you the disc tray menu item at the bottom of the dashboard is then split in half; the top section for standard Xbox 360 games and the bottom for HD-DVD movies.

At first we put the HD movie in the 360 and nothing happened. Then we put the disc into the HD-DVD and everything booted up as expected, looking gorgeous.

The quality of the picture is instantly visible; the HD-DVD format provides a significantly sharper, crisper display - so unsurprisingly we're really looking forward to HD-DVD porn.

Accidental Japanese language switching behind us, we skipped through the 400-odd scenes required to get the King Kong's action sequences and were again impressed by the quality visual display.

The ultra-high-res nature of the format naturally exposes King Kong's - at times - rather rubbish CGI, but above all we're convinced that this is an attractive purchase for owners of both an Xbox 360 and a HD TV (and what's the point of one without the other?)

The Xbox 360 HD-DVD player is in shops from tomorrow. Go on - even the disc tray sounds all high-definition. And you can pretend to your mates you've got a slim-lime 360.

The Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on officially lands in stores tomorrow, but we've managed to nab an early unit from Microsoft.

Making full use of our fancy new photo studio we naturally decided to get a photo of the HD-DVD drive alongside our other pride a joy; our burning hot Nintendo Wii, which has been in constant use for about 72 hours.

If you take Wii out of its little stand, the HD-DVD is bigger than Nnitendo's console.

Flagship Xbox 360 RPG Blue Dragon has nabbed top marks in the latest issue of highly-respected Japanese mag Famitsu, receiving scores of 9, 9, 9 and 10 from is panel of reviewing editors.

This gives the RPG an impressive final score of 37/40, raising hopes for Microsoft that the Mistwalker title might just help them finally crack the Land of the Rising Sun.

Thanks to the large fanbase surrounding Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Origami - who designed the characters in the game - pre-orders for the special edition Blue Dragon 360 bundle have already been snapped up by gamers across Japan.

Could this be the turning point for Microsoft's fumble in the Far East? We'll let you know when Blue Dragon hits Japanese shops next month. ...
