One of our French readers, kingplayer, sent us a tip about a brand new PSP bundle hitting France (and maybe the rest of Europe?). Like the previous Korea-only Tekken pack, this bundle features some pretty sweet box art and... well, nothing else, really. Killzone will obviously be included in this particular bundle. It appears that Sony will also be providing a new bundle featuring Vice City Stories for release the week after. Our European fans can look out for the new packages on November 8th (for Killzone) and November 15th (for GTA).

I was extremely excited to play Bounty Hounds, but when the demo was released and I finally got my hands on it, I must say I was a bit disappointed. You see, the camera was every bit as bad as previously reported. Unfortunately, most of the reviewers agreed with me, as the game didn't exactly get the kind of reviews many of us thought it would before playing it. However, I'm sure that didn't dissuade many of my fellow fanboys from picking it up, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

IGN (70/100) - "Bounty Hounds is a classic example of shoddy execution derailing a slew of great ideas. With a better camera and improved controls, it could have been a real contender."
Got Next (60/100) - "It seems that no matter which way you look at it, Bounty Hounds is the kind of game that did everything right to turn out great except the first thing it was meant to do – create an addictive online interaction with players."
Games Radar (30/100) - "Nearly every element of Bounty Hounds falls flat. Graphics? Utterly mediocre and heavily fogged (the comic-like cinematics are drawn nicely, though.) Level design? Non-existent: expect a sleep-inducing never-ending sequence of open fog fields and blocky square corridors."

As you can see, the game just didn't seem to deliver, and that's a real shame because it seemed like it was coming together to make a really great game. Hopefully, Namco can go back to the drawing board and fix these problems when and if they release a sequel. ...

RG Softworks have updated the port of Alephone to the GP2X, heres some info:

Aleph One is an Opensource version of the Marathon engine made by Bungie, prior to their purchase by Microsoft. The Marathon games are some of the best loved on the Apple Mac and are the spiritual predecessors of Halo.

Well, here it is version 1.0 of my Aleph One port. Is it perfect? No, there are still a few bugs in there.
So why release it? Basically, I just don't have the time that this game deserves, to that end i'm releasing the
(exceptionally untidy) source-code at the same time. I hope that someone else carries on the work.

    Changes
    =======

GP2X specific menus, main and in-game (ugly - but functional)
    Saving/Loading
3 default configs (Standard, Reversed and Quake2X), plus custom definable.
Terminal screens are now readable (still slightly buggy, it cuts off some text and badly wraps some)

    PurplePup posted this news/release:

This is a clone of a great Flash game called TextTwist I found on the Net a while ago.

The basic idea is, you have a 6 letter word that has been jumbled up and you must find as many of the 3, 4 5 and 6 letter words that can be made from it in the time allowed. You must get at least one 6 letter word to progress to the next level.

The dictionary I am using is a British word list I found (sorry can't remember where, but if I do I'll include a credit) that seems to hold a reasonable selection, which once filtered for just 3-6 letter words contains about 15000 words. The word list can be replaced or amended, and uses an additional utility I wrote that formats the list ready for the game.

This is the first game I've written for the GP2X and uses the excellent SDL. I've only been working on it for a month or so in my spare time and still learning, so loads of improvements possible such as better sound effects (please!) and some music, better graphics, possibly more comprehensive dictionary, better scoring etc, but the basic gameplay and look/feel is there now.

News/release from Enira of a Notepad App for the DS:

    Note:
Be aware that this is a beta. This code has never seen any hardware so I do not know how it will react.
    But it worked whilst emulated.
In this beta, the text file gets written into the SRAM. (So no fancy screens etc...) (Thanks Mollusk for the idea.)

    About the project:
    Know Issues:
    -The scrollbar should be optimized.
When the text autoscrolls because you are moving beyond your screen limits, the scrollbar doesn't updates.
-The cursor resets to 0 when scrolling (Will be optimized next time for sure)
    -Quite some glitches/bugs I suppose.

Further implementations: ( When Santa delivers me a piece of hardware to develop )
-FAT implementation so SRAM will be chucked out.
-Config file to save where you left
-Config file to store costum grafitti's
-Basic improvements in grafitti: 'wizard' modus that makes the grafitti adept to your writing style.
(The more you practice the 'wizard' the accurate your writing becomes)

    About the DSe Notepad.

    Keys:
Start: Only when asked to reset SRAM.
    X: Switch screen
    Y: Add Breakpoint
    Left: Move cursor left
    Right: Move cursor right

    Not used:
    L (Suggested: Scroll Up)
    R (Suggested: Scroll Down)
    Select
    A
    B
    Up
    Down

    Switch Screen:
The X button allows you to switch the text to the lower screen so you can set your cursor somewhere in the text.
Press X to switch your screen again.

    Breakpoints:
Breakpoints (that's what I call it) are markings in the text ,like a cursor (but red), that select an amount of text.
Press once to add the first breakpoint, press Y again to add the last breakpoint and press again to unselect.
Once an area of text is marked with these breakpoints you can copy/cut it.

    About the Input:
Input can be done both ways.
    a) The keyboard
    b) The stylus

Today Atlus announced its DS adventure game Contact has shipped to retailers and will be in stores tomorrow, October 19. Contact is that new game where you play as yourself, and everyone seems to have a hard time describing its unique gameplay.

It seems The Professor needs your help to fix his spaceship, and you'll have to contact him through your DS to offer your assistance. During the game, you'll monitor The Professor on the top screen, and control his assistant Terry on the bottom. There's also an Animal Crossingish multiplayer mode that lets you make contact with your friends. ...
