Set in the futuristic-y locale Pacific City, Crackdown finds you assuming the role of a crime buster attached to an outfit called The Agency, a force established to battle the criminal element after the police have their held hands up in defeat and run away screaming like little girls. Handily, you - or the agent lead character - are actually a superhuman cloned for maximum law enforcement whose skills and physical capabilities evolve during the course of the action. So, er, watch out you dirty rotten crims!

The Xbox 360 game's being developed by David Jones and his team at Real Time Worlds, and it's worth noting that Jones was the creative brain behind the original Grand Theft Auto titles and one Lemmings - fantastic games to have tucked under his belt, and we hope it can only mean good things for Crackdown.

To be honest though, we haven't found the two new gameplay trailers that have hit the 'net - and this here page - particularly inspiring, but check them out for yourself to see what you think.

We took an in-depth look at Crackdown back in April this year, so go have a gander at that for more information.

Namco Bandai's American arm has confirmed that a version of recently revealed handheld puzzle game Gunpey is getting a release on Western shores - well, in the land over ye olde pond anyway - lining up for an end-of-year debut. Accompanying this news are first screenshots from the title, which we've uploaded here for you to pass mince pies over.

Originally the concept of legendary developer and Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi, Gunpey's been re-imagined for PSP and Nintendo DS by Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment studio. In a nutshell, players have to flip lines located in squares as they - the lines, not the players - climb their way up the screen, with the objective of connecting the lines from left to right to make them disappear. It'll all be accompanied by music and funky backgrounds, with two-player multiplayer being stuffed in to boot.

June 1944. Allied forces had successfully breached Hitler's Atlantic Wall and gained a foothold in northern France in the first steps to liberate western Europe. But the impressive feat of planning, arms and sheer bravery was shortly to be followed by some of the bloodiest fighting that would be witnessed by French soil during World War II. From mid July to late August, Allied troops pressed forward in an effort to free Paris from the clutches of the German Army, and the conflict, labelled Normandy Breakout, was nothing short of brutal. It's this ferocious confrontation that developer Treyarch has chosen to focus on for Call of Duty 3.

An in-depth preview of Call of Duty 3 will be gracing these pages shortly, but we couldn't resist posting some new info, a couple of new screenshots and footage from the sequel to whet your appetite.

The media reveals CoD 3's opening level, which concentrates on the Allied assault on the French town of St. Lo. Originally an objective on D-Day plus one, the town finally fell into Allied hands some 40 days after the beach landings. It had been reduced to rubble by heavy Allied bombardment which it was assumed would make the town easier to capture. However, when the Allied tanks and troops rolled in, it materialised that the shelling had in fact had the opposite effect to that desired.

To date, we've only witnessed the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 3 in operation, but speaking to Activision we were informed that the PS3 version of the FPS will be virtually identical, while the Wii iteration will, obviously, be a little more unique. When asked whether the game will make use of the tilt functionality in the PS3 controller in any capacity, the publisher cryptically answered "We'll see". However, it was a little more forthcoming on the Wii version, saying that the console's motion-sensing tech will be employed, although we should expect CoD 3 on Wii to look slightly different to the Xbox 360 and PS3 outings. More details on Call of Duty 3 on Wii should be released in around a month's time.

With Call of Duty 3 pencilled in for a late 2006 release, it should appear around, if not on, Wii and PS3 launch days. In fact, gossip is nailing the sequel down as a PS3 launch title, but we've received no confirmation on this from Activision as yet.

Anyway, enjoy the media and keep those eyes peeled for the preview - and further footage and screenshots - hitting these pages soon.

You'll know from our recent interview with producer Ahmed Boukhelifa that Test Drive Unlimited is one of the Xbox 360 racers we're most looking forward to this autumn.

And so today we've got a little treat for you in the form of an exclusive gameplay movie of one of Test Drive's Unlimited's tastiest motors, the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

Enjoy a virtual fly around the car model in one of TDU's showrooms to some tasteful Italian opera, before hitting the streets of the Hawaiian isle for some pumping drum and bass as you rip up the roads, spin doughnuts and even catch a glimpse of the highly detailed car interiors and cockpits.

You should also make adjustment in your viewing mirrors for the fact that this vid has been taken at standard 480p, so TDU and the Spyder will look even more amazing in their full and glorious hi-def incarnation.

We've also scattered some fresh screens for you about the place, so enjoy today's TDU double whammy.

Our Friend WhiteX of Emulation64 has posted a review of the game Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest,

    More info --> http://www.yesasia.com/?/info.php?pro...4&lsaid=219793

    Heres the review

Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead man´s chest

PotC is the tie-in to the movie starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, it comes in the form of a hack and slash game, a brawler if you want, while it is not the best game ever, it certainly have enough good points to make it worth your while.

    Presentation/graphics 7

Full 3d with lush environments, a great variety of enemies to be cut down and detailed and well animated characters make the graphics on this one a very positive point. There are also several different weapons, all with different animations and on screen representation, as well as a 3d gameplay, that´s right, you are not confined to the "2d rails" like The Incredibles or Kim Possible, on PotC you can fight your way giving the back to the screen. However the lack of a proper intro or cutscenes allied with the extremely bad minigames pulled down the grade a bit.

    Music/sound effects 5

The music is quite forgettable, the sound effects are doing their job and there are some voices to go with
some combos, the cutscenes use written text, so we are deprived of the actors´s voices.

    Gameplay 6

It is a brawler so there is the infamous "3-hit combo" and you can get away with the most of the game with it but if you want to try something new, there are unlockable combos that make quite the difference on the gameplay, for an example, most of the enemies defend a lot, so there is one combo that break defenses if you time it right you can ally it with the first two hits making it the third of a devastating combo, or use it to break the defense and use a two hit combo using the kick button on the second hit taking staggering 70% of a sub boss energy on a single combo, cool as hell!
There are some annoying collision problems, specially with larger enemies, that spoil some of the fun but it is nothing major.

    DS factor 5

The lower screen is used with some statiscs and the touching capabilities only appear with the hideous minigames. The good use of the 3d engine made it come up a bit.

    Learning curve 8

You can go 3-hit combo right from the beginning, very easy, but if you want the more powerfull combos, use an hour.

    Lasting appeal/game modes 5

They packed some unlockables to make you revisit stages but most of them are concept art, you may want to unlock Elizabeth and the Rapier but there´s not much worthy to unlock besides the weapons. Have i said that the minigames are horrendous?

    Final considerations

It is an honest brawler and it is way better than most portable movie tie-ins, it is superficial if you want it to be because you can and must use the combos to improve its depth. The scenarios and the characters are very nice and so are the enemies, for the DS standards. I say rent it, see if you like it, because the game is weirdly large than buy it.
Oh! And stay the hell away from the minigames.

Bundy has released a new game for the PSP, heres the details:

Catch Bawls before your power bar runs out. You gotta use your hands to catch them. Forgot to mention, for now it only goes up to level 5.
It's my first game, coded in C.

The next generation of optical media is riddled with safety and anti-piracy mechanisms (think the AAC encoder on Sony's music program Sonic Stage ...what a pain). With this encryption in mind, movie producers felt they could rest easier, knowing their works of art (debatable at times) could not be plundered by CyberPirates, or Cyrates.

But avast, mateys! A loophole has been discovered and it's fairly elementary. The first Blu-Ray enabled PCs have the ability to take a lovely full resolution screenshot whilst a movie is playing. Manipulate that Print key (Prt Sc for the hunt n' peck typists out there) so it takes pictures to match the frames per second of the actual movie and you've got a pirated video track! Snag the audio separately and voila -- a super HD movie free for distribution.

Sony and Toshiba are going to counter this with updates for the video players and graphics card that will close the loophole before too much damage is done. Still, kudos to the magazine c't that found said loophole and Heise Security for bringing it to our attention. ...

    AgentQ posted this news:

ScummVM DS is now officially part of the ScummVM project, and I am the official port maintainer. This means that the DS port is in the subversion repository along with the other ports, and everyone who checks out the source code will get my port along with it.

It also means that the DS version will be released alongside the other ScummVM versions, from the next version onward, and will be downloadable from the official ScummVM site, and on Sourceforge too. Also, bugs and feature requests in the DS port can be reported on the ScummVM bug tracker, and the port will get it's own forum too, where I will be able to support users who have problems.

This doesn't mean that ScummVM DS will suddenly support every game, or that all the bugs will disappear. In fact, the version in SVN has one less feature than my released 0.61 build, namely that you can't delete saves anymore. This is going to be added in a general fashion for all games, so I will implement that when it comes along. It's still just me working on the port, but if other people break the DS version, they will have some reason to fix it, while they didn't when it was unofficial. So that will make it easier for me. All in all, it's a pretty good thing. ...

Rumors are coming in that a programmer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl has recently said on his blog that the game will be featuring destructible environments and customizable characters. The environments are said to feature terrain that will reflect damage through burning and crumbling. Whether this can be used as a weapon in the game is yet to be determined, as well as the validity of the statement on a whole.

As for customizing characters, supposedly the game will employ a new stat system that allows you to customize the play style of each character, inputting data to balance its speed, strength, etc. to the player's liking. Also, it is said that each character will have an arsenal of moves that the player may map to the character, allowing for even more customization.

While this is all a huge rumor right now, we sure hope that it turns out to be truth. ...
