Whatever we might think of its new name, we're still more excited than a bee in a hat full of meat when it comes to the console formally known as the Revolution. With E3 literally so close we can almost touch it with our quivering fingers, more information is dripping out of the Wii hole at an ever increasing rate. First up, those next-gen Pilotwings rumours are back!

Speaking on his blog, 1up.com editor Sam Kennedy drops a slight but interesting clanger, casually stating, "Friends of mine tell me Pilotwings is absolutely perfect - it's something anyone can pick up and enjoy. Nintendo's changing all of the rules - they've created an experience anyone can enjoy. They've created a system for everyone."

Whether this - admittedly not very conclusive - evidence ties in with the mystery Hudson flight game unveiled by E3 bigwigs recently, turns out to be an internal Nintendo project or is, in fact, a walloping pile of spindly balls remains to be seen. Still, we're very, very excited about the whole prospect.

In other news, Business Week's website is tossing around a few nuggets of Wii-related goodness, reporting on Nintendo as stating that its Wii will come in a variety of colours at E3 (presumably the ones we saw back when the Revolution was first unveiled) - although a decision is yet to be made regarding the final design. And, just in case you were wondering what that silver stand in the promo shots is all about, it apparently "makes the system a welcome, artistic component of any multimedia setup, whether it's displayed horizontally or vertically."

So there you go. Anyway, back to Pilotwings - altogether now: "Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!" ...

Activision and Infinity Ward plan to release nine new multiplayer maps for the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 2 over Xbox Live in the coming months.

The first four of the nine maps will be made available this spring - so soon then - with the remaining five to hit in July. The initial release will be split into two packs. The five maps to be released in July are being stuffed into one pack called the Invasion Pack, which will sell for 900 Microsoft Points. The maps included in this pack will be - Antoville, France (Crossroads), St. Louet, France (Newvillers), Amaye sur Seulles, France (Normandy), Alam Halfa, Egypt (Decoytown), Rostov, Russia (Harbor).

Playable versions of the first four multiplayer maps releasing in spring will be present at next week's E3 in playable form. ...

Square Enix and Buena Vista Games are celebrating the early success of Disney themed RPG Kingdom Hearts II, which has sold over a million copies just four weeks after its North American release.

Merging of Square Enix' hugely popular RPG titles - including characters from the Final Fantasy series - and a collection of Walt Disney's most famous cartoon characters, the PlayStation 2 exclusive is the sequel to Kingdom Hearts, which is one of the top ten best selling titles in North America (according to data from the NPD Group).

The title was released in the US on March 28th, and has achieved significant critical acclaim and an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers across North America.

Daishiro Okada, Square Enix president and COO, commented: "Kingdom Hearts II has sold through one million units in just one-third the time of that of the original, proving that fans were waiting to get their hands on the sequel. The winning combination of Disney and Square Enix has done it again and we couldn't be happier with the results."

Since its debut late in 2002, the original Kingdom Hearts title has shipped more than 2.6 million units in North America alone. Combined with the 2004 release of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance and the Japanese launch of Kingdom Hearts II in December, the series has shipped a total of more than 8.5 million units worldwide to date.

"Kingdom Hearts II is the result of great creative teams coming together to make one of the most successful console games of the year," added Graham Hopper, SVP and general manager, Buena Vista Games. "The success of this game is very exciting and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the team at Square Enix."

The game features a voice cast led by Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), and includes Christopher Lee and James Woods amongst many others. Players lead the main character Sora, together with Disney's Donald and Goofy, through a fantasy land themed around multiple Disney films, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, Pirates of the Caribbean, Steamboat Willie and Tron.

In addition, the game features over 100 Disney characters and players will also get to revisit themed worlds from the original title, such as Aladdin, Disney Castle, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh and Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Kingdom Hearts II is currently available in Japan and North America. The company has yet to confirm a release date for UK and Europe, although judging by the success of the game stateside, we should expect an EU release announcement shortly. ...

EA has stormed back into the top of the charts this week with next-gen sales of FIFA World Cup Germany 2006, Miss Croft stepping down to enjoy the footie after three weeks at the top.

As anticipation for the World Cup increases, managerial wannabes are setting their sights on virtual victory, driving Sega's Football Manager 2006 up four places from seven to three in the all formats chart.

DS owners are still taking care of their furry friends, as Animal Crossing: Wild World maintains a healthy chart position, dropping just one place into fourth, while Vivendi's slightly soggy Ice Age 2: The Meltdown drips down from second to fifth this week.

Crime is still paying dividends for EA, with The Godfather slipping just one place into sixth, followed closely by a strong debut for NCsoft's latest MMO expansion, Guild Wars Factions, in at number seven.

At the lower end of the top ten, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion enjoys a small boost this week, up two places from ten to eight, FIFA Street 2 concedes five places to nestle in at nine, and Relentless Software live up to their name as Buzz: The Big Quiz refuses to leave the top ten, clinging on in tenth place.

Three new entries this week make it into the top forty, but only just. Rogue Trooper marches in at thirty-eight for Eidos, followed by two new DS titles, Tetris DS and Trauma Center: Under the Knife to complete the lower ranks of the all-formats chart run.

It's going to be slim pickings on new releases this week, as the industry awaits a slew of new announcements and next-gen titles to be shown at the E3 expo. That said, Nintendo ought to do well with DS title Metroid Prime: Hunters, and Ubisoft are hoping to recreate the phenomenal console success of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, as the game hits stores on PC at the end of the week. ...

    JimmyL posted this news:

    Hi,

I whipped together a sample Server List browser. It allows you to query for game servers, and to add/remove game servers from the list. It's pretty basic at the moment, but should be enough for a simple ip address exchange. I'm feel like I'm rushing this out because I'm late for work... but I think I got it all in a clean package for download, if not I'll fix it tonight.

The source code for all the operations is included, so feel free to add it to your wifi enabled games, and to use my server to store hosted game ip addresses. You'll just need to change the 3 instances of "TestGame" to your own game name.

You can find the package here: http://www.atouchofwar.com/tools.php

    Mia posted this news/release:

Here is my first homebrew game for the Nintendo DS. It is a simulator of the Game&Watch Oil Panic.

    What's new :
o Switched off "sprites" are slightly visible, like on the original LCD display (thanks Shito).
o Game A and Game B are two distinct difficulty settings. Game B was the single level of version 0.1. Game A is obviously easier.

    - How to play
The scene takes place in a gas station, as an oil leak from a pipe on the third floor is causing confusion. Move Station Helper left and right to catch the leaks in his bucket. Helper's bucket holds three drops. Move Helper out to veranda to pour the oil into the Boss's oil drum on the second floor. Be careful not to drop oil on the waiting customers.

    - Screens
Upper screen is a zoom-up of the third floor of the gas station where Helper is. All three floors of the gas station appear on lower screen.
