The first incarnation of Neuros' MPEG 4 Recorder proved a handy tool for getting video onto a PDA without having to leave your computer on overnight while it churned through complex re-encoding algorithms. However, it didn't quite hack it as a no-frills PVR, lacking support for the higher resolutions you need for decent playback on a TV, and the ability to program a recording schedule. Neuros is one of those rare companies that not only takes such criticism on board but does something about it, and in this case promptly tweaked the product and re-released it as the Recorder 2...

    Verdict
Neuros' MPEG 4 Recorder was a great product for getting movies and TV shows onto a PDA, and the Recorder 2, with its more widely supported video and audio codecs, PSP-friendly encoding settings, and near-DVD quality TV recording, is a big step forward. It's still not the last word in PVRs, of course, but the new version does a better job than its predecessor.

It's a shame Neuros felt it necessary to drop the unit's USB 2.0 support, particularly since the unit's support for the iPod video format puts Mac and PC connectivity at a premium. Fortunately, USB-based card readers are very cheap these days, but it's still a disappointing omission.

PSP users will be less concerned about that than owners of other mobile devices, and for them the MPEG 4 Recorder 2 costs less than eight pre-recorded UMDs, always a galling purchase when you own the content in other forms, such as DVD. The same goes for anyone who has a fifth-generation iPod - users benefit too. And it also makes a pretty decent VCR replacement.

EA has released a trailer and screens of 007's PSP debut as From Russia with Love gets ported to the Sony handheld.

It was last year that EA announced that it was bringing its latest Bond adventure to PSP and it seems to have survived the conversion with all of its features intact, the main change being that now there is a four-player mode using the handheld's WiFi capability.

The game is based on the classic 1963 Bond film but EA has felt free to pack the game with events and action sequences that didn't appear in the film – which means you can fly jetpacks, have a shoot-out on a speeding train and meet Natasha Bedingfield. Yeah, live the dream.

From Russia with Love will be released for PSP on 17 March

Sony Europe's Recording Media and Energy division has launched a new promotional pack for its 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, specially designed to attract PSP-owning consumers.

The new pack features a large PSP image on the front, and comes complete with a USB cable so users can connect their handheld up to their PC for file swapping.

The 2GB Memory Stick has more than 60 times the capacity of the stick included in the original PSP Value Pack, which weighs in at just 32MB. It can store up to 60 hours of music, 1000 digital photos or a maximum of four full-length films. According to Sony, price points will vary from country to country, with an estimated end-user price of around EURO 175 (just under GBP 120).

Last November, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched the PSP Giga Pack - a special bundle containing a handheld plus a 1GB Memory Stick, along with an assortment of accessories. Sony has yet to confirm whether a 2GB Giga Pack is also on the way, but it's certainly a possibility judging by the success of the 1GB bundle - a top-selling product across Europe during the festive period. ...

Sony has released software for its popular PSP handheld gaming device called TalkMan. In development for some time now, the program currently stores about 3,000 conversation patterns in English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. 'A user may speak the words "Koko-wa-dokodesuka?" (Where is this?) in Japanese, for example, into the device's microphone, upon which a cartoon bird acting as an interpreter will pop up and start talking in the user's language. The bird is also able to translate the reply into Japanese.' A European release for TalkMan is expected in the spring

    News from Lik Sang

Leave it to the experts if you want to end up with a great game based on a popular Anime and Manga franchise. A rule that certainly proves to be true if we look at who SEGA chose to be the developer of the latest videogame incarnation out of the Bleach universe coming our way. None other than Gunstar Heroes and Radiant Silvergun veteran Treasure stepped up and delivered a Beat'em Up that offers full online support on the Nintendo DS, allowing you to fight players globally. Thoroughly committed to 2D (and we love them for that attitude), Bleach: Souten ni Kakeru Unmei is Treasure's first NDS title. Director Masato Maegawa even commented in an interview once, that if developing for next generation systems like Xbox 360, the company would use polygons for the visuals, but'd still stick to 2D gameplay. It's just great to see that such masters of the genre won't give in to the overall realism-only worship of current times, but are staying true to what they excel in: pure 2D gaming bliss. Fun for all. Let's hope we'll see more glory from Treasure on next-gen hardware, in the spirit of this fresh Bleach title.

Our stock of Bleach DS was delivered to our warehouse last Friday night, only too late for preorders to be dispatched before Chinese New Year break. Our packing department is now back at full force and all reservations are getting shipped out as we speak. New orders are very welcome for US$ 49.90 only. Get it delivered for free with our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion, available for all import games at Lik Sang.

Back to Bleach for NDS: at the Jump World event in Tokyo last year, SEGA had the game already at display and set up for four players. What awaits you with Souten ni Kakeru Unmei is basically a very fine two-plane Beat'em Up. The game features two main attack solutions, you use a button each for either a strong or a weak attack. Guard with the right shoulder button, while L is used to switch between planes. While in combat, you lock yourself on to an opponent and are able to dash with the remaining face controls. Then, jumping sees you pressing up, where double jumps are also possible.

Massive article and great news from Lik Sang

Now you have heard that one epic tale before probably, of a SEGA console that just refuses to lie buried after production ceased years ago. The Dreamcast has been resurrected to be the host for another 2D shooter more times than any other so-called "dead" system ever (apart maybe for the Neo Geo and its endless suite of King of Fighters remakes and Metal Slug episodes). Fans of the last SEGA manufactured platform can rejoice once more, as Milestone throws a spell on the still fresh dirt upon the grave of the swirl-logoed machine and beckons it to crawl to the job once more. Far from being the standard brainless Zombie now, the Dreamcast is still very much "thinking", as the original ad campaign upon it's initial introduction to the Japanese market promised. See, this is no cheap souped-up cash-in of a game we are talking about today, Milestone followed up good on their fine Dreamcast shooter Chaos Field and will release Radilgy (aka. Rajirugi) in about two weeks from now.

In our age of sequels and mainstream hits, it's refreshing to see the retro-regarded 2D scrolling shooter genre so well interpreted in a brandnew game. Radilgy simply delivers on all accounts. Being a straight port of the NAOMI based Arcade original, it shines with relentless action, easy-to-grasp gameplay mechanics and crisp, adorable cel-shaded visuals. Grab your sword, ignite your vulcan cannon and steer your mecha into pure projectile mayhem. A game to relive what it means to truly be "in the zone".
