Just spotted this great news at
Lik Sang about the release of a backlit version of the worlds most powerful handheld and what is the best handheld emulation console ever.[br][br]Heres the news from
Lik Sang [br][br] Ladies and gentlemen, may we introduce to you our nominee for the "Underground-Handheld-System-of-the-early-21th-Century", the system that bequeathed us with a USB port, standard Smart Media cards and tons of emulators and homebrew on-the-go, the incomparable GP32 in its latest version: the GP32 BLU![br][br]We have taken a closer look at Gameparks latest version of the handheld console with the reputation of being the open source and emulation handheld revolution. The Gamepark saga is not over yet and for many of us it just began.[br][br]The new GP32 BLU[br][br]The new version of the GP32 (also called the European version because the new Spanish distributor Virginplay) comes with a brand new BLU (Back Light Unit) LCD display and a complete new multi-lingual firmware. The firmware comes also very handy for owners of old GP32's, as they can upgrade their system for free. Next to the new languages in the firmware (Korean, English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese), it also allows to run free software off the internet without first registering the GP32 on Gameparks web site. Downloading your favorite Mega Drive emulator or DivX Player is now easier than ever before. Hundreds of applications and games are available at the net, and incredible new projects for the GP32 are announced every week (check the links at the bottom of this page here).[br][br]166MHz Handheld[br][br]All the new GP32 BLU are equipped with high performance memory and most of them overclock out-of-the-box to 166MHz (in our tests we could get 98% of the units to 166MHz or more, only one unit out of 40 tested was 160MHz "only"). A very handy feature if you are into emulation, 16bit classics in full speed and sound ahoy.[br][br]The display, as expected, is flawless. The BLU LCD units are from Samsung and factory built-in. The older FLU (Front Light Unit) was an afterburner-type modification built by Hahotech in Korea, a 3rd party company that was separate from Gamepark or Lik Sang. While we were able to secure one more batch of FLU units (still worth a look!), the original unmodified GP32 without light will soon be gone for good, there are only a few boxes left of them.
