    New hues is good news for Nintendo. With the release of the colored DS models, sales of the handheld are better than ever in Japan. According to sales data obtained by Dengeki Online, Nintendo saw its DS sales rise more than twofold during the week of March 21 to March 27. Sales for the week were 54,000 units, compared to the previous week's sales of 21,000 units.

    Nintendo released its new Graphite Black and Pure White color models of the DS on March 24. The company will also be releasing two additional tinted models on April 21--Turquoise Blue and Candy Pink. New colors don't mean a new price. The cost remains 15,000 yen ($139). Nintendo has not announced plans to release colored DS models in the US. ...

    Nintendo President Iwata has reaffirmed details already released about the upcoming Revolution console. Gamsutra has details from his talk, where Iwata touches on the wireless capability of the Revolution, the designer friendly attitude of the console, and the secretive nature of the console's controllers. From the article: "For the next-generation console, we plan to introduce a friendly user interface so that, for example, a mother who's watching her child playing a game might say, 'Oh, I'd like to try that too.' However, user interfaces are devices that can be easily imitated by other companies, so I can't reveal any details right now. ...

    News from Lik Sang

    Well established as a platform for music and rhythm games, after the recent releases of top-titles Donkey Konga 3 and Donkey Kong - Jungle Beat, GameCube owners are now looking at a confirmed date for the anxiously awaited Dance Dance Revolution with Mario, shipping on July 14th. Having been subjected to adventures that involved a significant amount of jumping (and running!), as well as events such as tennis, golf, kart racing and even brawling in the past, Ninty's most beloved icon might well dress up in his usual plumber outfit again, but this time he literally moves to a different beat.

    Nintendo has teamed up with Bemani veteran Konami to unite fans of both the Mushroom Kingdom and DDR gameplay to bring you a title that offers the best of both worlds. Expect a challenging and deep Dance Dance stint, with a strong Nintendo influence: gameplay mechanics are close to what has helped to build a healthy DDR community in the past, while colorful backdrops from games like Super Mario Sunshine and characters like Mario, Luigi and Yoshi as well as a whole troupe of known bad guys render this videogame experience a true Nintendo theme throughout.

    This also gets reflected in recognizable tunes and remixes the mascots dance to while aiming at a perfect score in matching the cues given on-screen, which will do away with enemies like Boo that occasionally try to block the rythm meters; timing is the key to eliminate those interruptions. Talking about available songs, there are for instance versions of the main Super Mario Bros. anthem, as well as Super Mario Bros. 2. Although the full list of melodies has yet to be announced, a mix of game and non-game tunes await rythm-hungry players. The selection seems geared toward the whole family, which might be just one reason that DDR with MARIO is likely to be destined to become one of the year's best party games for GameCube. Not to mention plenty of mini-games that provide even more fun you can shuffle your feet to. Split-screen mode allows the dance frenzy to be enjoyed by two players, where while depending on skill, the invitation to sabotage your opponent will certainly prove irresistible.

    In order to boost the pleasure of seeing Mario shake his booty to the beat, you can make good use of the dedicated dance mat peripheral that will get released alongside the game. Like him, you might appreciate the opportunity to melt some unwanted pounds resulting from too much Ravioli by getting some fun exercise! Similar to the Tarukonga Controller, in that it provides the right tool for the job in DK Jungle Beat and Donkey Konga games, this dance mat will defintely add to your DDR enjoyment here. It's officially manufactured by Nintendo and features a "Here we go!" logo written across its face; a certain Italian plumber would absolutely feel at home on that one. Gamers can tap left, right, up, down and A or B on the dance pad to the on-screen action, throwing their limbs about beside a whole cast of famous Nintendo characters, who move gracefully to the cheerful music.

    Preorders are already open for this unique addition to any GameCube owner's library: Dance Dance Revolution with MARIO JAP will ship on July 14th for just US$ 59.90, eligible for Free Shipping Worldwide and a preorder bonus of 100 Payback Points extra. We assume that the game will supposedly be including the Dance Mat. If, in the future, the game and the dance mat are confirmed to be both available separately as well as in a bundle pack, we will accept preorders for all options.

    Paul55 in this Forum Topic has released a great looking Space shootem up called Space Dodger, heres some more information:

    Hello everyone! Today I'm glad to announce that i have finished and tested v1.0 of my game and everything works ok. Space Dodger is a game made with Fenix completely from scratch and I made it trying to use some goodies of the Dreamcast hardware. The game uses some designs from Macross/Robotech, and it's mainly a shoot'em up game where you will need to have some dodging skills too!! . There is some info taken directly from the readme:
    ________________
    * GAME FEATURES:
    ________________

    * In-Game artwork completely made from scratch
    * Coded thinking in Dreamcast hardware (using every trick I knew to gain speed)
    * High resolution graphics (640x480 resolution, 16 bit depth)
    * Full of sounds and music (well, songs make everything to sound choppy, but I didn't have
    another choice)
    * 40 FPS constant framerate, with very little slowdown on some levels (level 3 for example)
    * Four levels of increasing difficulty (I know... it's short)
    * Four kind of powerups (two weapon powerups)
    * Three kind of enemies
    * Analog - digital controller support (analog has some glitches, but well... it's there)
    * Only for one player

    rumours from spong

    SPOnG can reveal today that the Xbox 360 will see an unprecedented downloadable demo offering from day one, with Xbox Live being shaped to deliver massive levels of on-demand content.
    “It will mean more work for developers,” our source told us, “though it will offer what is essentially hype-free evaluation options to the consumer.”

    Interestingly, SPOnG has had it confirmed by several senior sources that the Xbox 360 will feature wireless connectivity out of the box. Furthermore, data storage via PC will be featured, though information seen to date makes reference to this being used solely for media storage. However, downloadable Xbox content could, in theory, be stored too, though we should make it clear that the possibility of such content being stored in this way is mere speculation at this point. ...

    DSemu the Nintendo DS and GBA emu for windows has once again been updated, heres whats new:

    It's high time I added at least a little SWI support to the ARM core. So, I've put in Div, Sqrt, SoftReset and VblankIntrWait. I dunno if it'll make any difference to making GBA or DS demos work, but it needs to be done either way.

    I've been receiving comments recently that the compilation process for the emu is less than clean, generating a good wad of warnings. After many months, I finally took it upon myself to resolve the warnings. They turned out mostly to be simple casting requirements, and the occasional return without a value. I've patched all those up, and the compile process should be clean with no errors and no warnings.

    Quirky has released a new version of his BBC Micro emulator for the Gameboy Advance and also the Gamecube via the Gameboy Player and the Nintendo DS (via the GBA Cartridge slot), heres the news from this release:

    Version 1.01 has a few minor changes. The biggest change is the sound emulation, which now includes emulation of the individual channel volumes. Exile sounds better!

    A spinoff version dubbed (by me) the "Elite Special" is also available. This includes 1770 emulation, vital for Elite and Elite-A, plus several hacks to get the screen split and colours sort of correct-ish. Download it if you fancy a novelty, but be warned that the speed isn't 100% and a great deal of patience is needed for the disc loading! It will emulate other games too, but due to the hacks there may be strange errors. I recommend at least trying Elite-A in it, available from Ian Bell's website.

    Finally, I've sorted the source code out too, and uploaded it. I need to fix my general library - for doing things like screen set up, basic sprites, etc - as it is required and I don't know if this will compile with the version I have on my site already. If you are interested in this, email me, otherwise I'll assume no one cares!

    The well-known Japanese videogame magazine Famitsu rated the Dreamcast version of Trizeal? and four editors gave a rating of 6 / 7 / 6 / 6 which makes a total of 25/40.

    Also interesting that the review version came directly from Sega Japan, which means that Sega acts as the publisher this time.
