"VMware's mission to bring virtualization to the mobile market gained a major supporter last week whenSamsung pledged to use VMware software to build business-friendly smartphones and tablets. The project known as Horizon Mobile will let Android phones use virtual machine technology to run a second instance of Android, in much the same way virtualization works on servers and desktops. The user essentially has two completely separate phones running on one device, and can switch from the personal one to the corporate one by clicking a 'work phone' icon."There are others pushing alternative approaches to virtualization on mobile devices.

We remember playing Theme Park for hours on our Super Nintendos, but if you were more into PC gaming in the late '90s you might remember the brilliant Rollercoaster Tycoon.

The full 3D theme park sim, which has sold 11 million units since its release in 1999, lets you build a full theme park an almost overwhelming number of options and a deep rollercoaster customisation tool. Then put on your business hat and manage every aspect of your park's finances until you're successful enough to move on to the next country and do it all again.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D contains a new 'Coaster Story' mode, which promises to "blend together tutorials and park challenges into a cohesive and entertaining narrative".

According to Atari: "Choose your own player character and set off on a journey around the world to expand your roller coaster empire. As you progress, you'll unlock tons of unique attractions, themes, amenities and more."

The game will also have a 'Park Sandbox' mode which lets you jump in and just build a park. You'll also be able to share your park via the 3DS' "advanced networking capabilities" - whether this means StreetPass and/or full online functionality is unclear.

The game's in development at n-Space - the team often responsible for DS versions of blockbuster games such as the Call of Duty series, Goldeneye 007 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It's set to launch in a vague '2012'. Check out the first trailer below:

Nintendo is to unveil a host of new 3DS games at its pre-Tokyo Game Show event next week, according to reports.
Japanese blog Hachimaki, translated by Gematsu, claims that a side-scrolling game starring Yoshi, developed by Kirby's Epic Yarnstudio Good-Feel, is on the way. A fifth Ace Attorney game featuring Miles Edgeworth will also be announced.
Also set for a reveal next week is a new game from Nintendo's internal WarioWare studio, and a new Etrian Odyssey title from Atlus. Singing synthesiser Hatsune Miku, a new project fromUmineko developer Alchemist, God Eater from Namco, and Grasshopper's The Silver Case - originally a DS title - will also be announced for 3DS.
Nintendo is also to announced Baten Kaitos: Silence Of A Mechanised Son and Mach Rider Unchained. The report also claims that Monster Hunter 3G - confirmed overnight by Famitsu - will support online play.
The platform holder will also detail improvements to the 3DS download store eShop, which will begin offering demos of 3DS games starting with Super Mario 3D Land. A release date for The Legend Of Zelda: Four Swords - confirmed at E3 to be a free download - will also be revealed.
The reports originate from 4Chan and 2Chan, and as such are to be taken with a hefty grain of salt. However, with the claim of a newMonster Hunter already confirmed, there is some truth at least in the rumours.
Nintendo's pre-TGS conference is set for September 13. In addition to Monster Hunter 3G - an expanded version of Wii title Monster Hunter Tri - Famitsu has revealed the Expansion Slide Pad, a bulky attachment which adds a second circle pad and set of trigger buttons to 3DS.

In a post on the Xbox Live support forums a Microsoft spokesperson confirms a new wave of bans affecting those who are deemed to have "illegitimately accessed" Marketplace content. "Our investigation reveals that this access was intentional and not accidental, constituting a blatant violation of the terms of use for the service," the post reads. "Please know that we are being very careful regarding these suspensions, and have clear evidence regarding each account issued a permanent suspension from the service."

[MyMagicPudding] wanted to try his hand at hobby electronics, so he decided to go all-in and build himself a PIP-Boy 3000. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, the PIP-Boy 3000 is a wrist-mounted computer from the popular Fallout video game series.
The PIP-Boy is based around an HTC Desire HD mobile phone, which [MyMagicPudding] mounted inside case custom made for him by [Skruffy] from the Replica Prop Forum. He wanted to stay true to the game, so the wrist-mounted computer’s interface eschew’s the Desire’s touch screen and is instead controlled via a set of buttons and dials on its face. The external inputs all interface with the Desire via an Arduino Uno, which communicates with the phone using TCP over USB.
While he admits that his soldering skills are pretty dodgy, and that there’s no longer room behind the neat-looking facade to mount the PIP-Boy on his wrist, we think that it looks great. If this is an example of his first electronics project, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
Continue reading to see the PIP-Boy 3000 in action.

The Kinect is an interesting beast. On one hand, it’s fantastic for hacking – a purpose for which it was not designed. On the other hand, it’s “just OK” when it comes to gaming – its entire reason for being.
One of the big complaints regarding the Kinect’s control scheme is that it’s no good for games such as first person shooters, where a large majority of the action involves walking, jumping, and aiming. For his Master’s project, [Alex Poolton] put together a fantastic demonstration showing how the Kinect can be paired with a standard Xbox controller to provide hybrid gaming input.
While you might expect a simple game that shows the fundamentals of the hybrid control system, he has put together a full fledged game demo that shows how this control scheme might be implemented in a real game. [Alex] admits that it’s still a bit rough around the edges, but there’s some real potential in his design.
Continue reading to see a video demonstration of [Alex’s] project in action, and be sure to check out his blog for news and updates on the project.

The upcoming August NPD figures will be the first to factor in the effect of the global PS3 price cut, but one analyst firm has said that it won’t be enough to dethrone the Xbox 360.
Sony cut the cost of the console by $50 last month.
IndustryGamers reports that Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter predicts monthly PS3 hardware unit sales of 240k units. That would be a six per cent year-on-year decline.
However, he reckons that Xbox 360 unit sales will reach 275k units – an annual decline of 23 per cent.
Furthermore Pachter estimates 3DS sales of 135k, Wii sales of 175k and DS sales of 235k.
He also predicts sharp declines in the software market, with its monthly value expected to fall 30 per cent to $284m.
“Despite a relatively easy comp of down 14 per cent, we expect negative software sales growth to continue in August due to a late Madden launch and a very weak release slate," Pachter explained.
"Madden sales totalled $115m last year, so without the delay, our forecast calls for only a slightly down month."
