The new SEGA arcade "image character" has begun his SEGA arcade image character duties! Aren't you excited? I'm excited. (You should be excited.) To review, previous image characters include MEGUMI, Yuko Ogura (twice!) and Satomi Ishihara. The new SEGA arcade image character is Jpop boy band singer Haruma Miura (pictured), breaking the string of females before him. As SEGA's image character, his face will be plastered all over SEGA's domestic arcades, perhaps enticing more females to venture inside. Says Miura:

Being photographed while gaming is a first for me. Initially, I was nervous, but gradually I relaxed and forgot all about that and just enjoyed the game. This isn't just work, it's also play... I don't really know what's best for me to do, but personally, I want everyone to know how much I enjoy game centers so they can see the appeal — especially now [in this heat], game centers are refreshingly cool.

Seems like a nice enough kid, even if he's misguided in his choice of coats. Hit the jump for another shot of Miura.

New version of the Master System and Game Gear emulator for your cell phone.

    Changelog:

    - Ported MasterGear to Unix using the new EMULib framework. I will try to compile the new MG-Unix for as many Unix flavors as possible. At the moment, only Ubuntu Linux binaries are available.
    - Ported MasterGear to Maemo OS2008 used in N800 and N810 internet tablets from Nokia. MG-Maemo is specifically optimized for internet tablets using assembler modules from MG-Symbian.
    - Replaced -zoom/-nozoom command line options with -soft/-nosoft and made softening, scanline simulation, and synchronization options work on all relevant platforms (Unix, Maemo, MSDOS).
    - Made [F8] toggle scanline simulation, while [SHIFT]+[F8] toggles softening.
    - Removed -novsync option from MG-MSDOS, as -nosync does the same thing.
    - Fixed situation when MG-Windows could stay in memory after being closed.
    - MG-Symbian display routines rewritten in ARM assembler for speed. This should mainly affect UIQ3 users but S60 users will also benefit.
    - Split MG-Symbian configuration menu into four tabs, making "Video" and "Audio" settings separate.
    - Added "Audio Latency", "Skip Frames", and "Sync Updates" settings to MG-Symbian

Sega Dreamcast emulator for PC updated.

I’ve uploaded a new OS X binary package that actually runs on 10.4 now. It also includes a fix for the Intel GMA950, and a new .dst document icon. In any case, you probably only want this if the previous package didn’t work for you.

Released in Japan as Poison Pink, Eternal Poison delivers a riveting narrative with sweeping themes and memorable characters, complimented by classic tactical gameplay and a uniquely dark aesthetic. Prepare yourself for an adventure rife with action and intrigue in this grand strategy RPG drama.

Our world descended into chaos the day the demonic realm of Besek appeared. Creatures known as the Majin emerged, wreaking havoc and destroying our way of life. They captured the Princess of Valdia and imprisoned her in their lair. Now, brave adventurers throughout the land have set out to explore the Majin homeland. Some wish to rescue the princess; some seek fame and glory; some merely want revenge. However, there are those who look to harness the Majin's dark powers, for it is rumored that deep within Besek lies the Eternal Poison, a legendary treasure able to make your deepest desires come true. Travel the paths of some of these adventurers, and as their tales unfold, you will discover the true meanings of romance, heroism, madness, despair, and betrayal...

    Key Features

    * Five stories in one—Walk the winding paths of five different parties as they journey deeper into hostile lands. With branching paths and optional encounters, you must chart each course carefully, for your choices will have a direct impact on the outcome of each tale.
    * Capture and collect demons—All demons can be exploited - even bosses - so every battle offers the intriguing choice of binding or killing your foes. Bound demons can be summoned to fight at your side or be sacrificed for money or new spells.
    * Gorgeous dark fantasy world—Step into a twisted fairytale world of demons, black magic, and a quest for the ultimate treasure. The kidnapping of the Princess and the temptation of finding the Eternal Poison have drawn your heroes into a world full of dangerous traps, fiendish monsters, and unexpected villains. Discover a world that is as rich in beauty as it is in corruption.

Every single copy of Eternal Poison is a special two-disc set. In addition to the game disc, customers will receive a soundtrack CD featuring selected music from the game.

Eternal Poison is currently scheduled for release on November 11, 2008, with an MSRP of $39.99.

Last week, the perfect world here at IGN was shattered when Activision announced that it would not be publishing Ghostbusters: The Video Game, a title from Terminal Reality (PS3/360/PC) and Red Fly (PS2/Wii/DS) that was under the Sierra umbrella. However, a ray of hope has come through today in the form of a Variety blog called The Cut Scene.

There, Variety videogames reporter and reviews editor Ben Fritz reports that he's touched base with Sony Pictures -- lord and master of the Ghostbusters franchise -- and a rep there confirmed that the studio is working with Activision Blizzard "to evaluate various options surrounding the release of the 'Ghostbusters' video game." The post goes on to say that Sony's taking time to "reevaluate" the marketing of the game to "potentially coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in '09."

So there you have it: a nameless rep says something might "potentially" happen. We're checking into this one ourselves and will get back to you when we hear something.
