Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be released on 26th November via Xbox Live Arcade.

That's according to Capcom's blog, anyway, which jokes that the game "could be just a few days away" under a massive screenshot that says "Coming Nov 26 to Xbox LIVE Arcade".

SSFII Turbo HD Remix is a 1080p remake of Capcom's classic beat-'em-up featuring reworked art, online multiplayer and more fan service an air-con buffet.

There's no word on the PlayStation Network release, but that may be more to do with the rest of the blog post, which is promoting an NXE "Branded Destination Experience".

Based on our dabblings with New Xbox Experience, that means it's got a few shuffly panels detailing the game and offering easy access to trailers, picture packs, themes and other downloadables, with a spiffy image in the background.

As for its PSN release, the obvious candidate is 27th November, since PSN updates drop on Thursdays, but we'll check with Capcom. Let's hope the game doesn't fall foul of the usual European delay for localisation.

(Update: Hrm. Capcom officially said "no comment" when we asked about the PSN date. Hopefully we'll hear more soon.) ...

Sony's head of public relations for the UK, David Wilson, has told GamesIndustry.biz that the company is pleased with LittleBigPlanet's retail performance and expects the title to perform better due to "word of mouth".

The Media Molecule title went on sale on November 5, and entered the UK's All Format chart in fourth place, the same week as the company's MotorStorm: Pacific Rift came in at 29. The following week both titles dropped in the charts to 19 and 35 respectively.

"We're really pleased with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet - it has been our highest scoring game ever I believe with a Metacritic score of 95 and a huge list of 10/10s or 100 per cent scores," explained Wilson.

"We are also pleased with its commercial performance. In other times of the year it would be a clear number one - so you have to put the chart in context. This is an incredibly volatile time of year and the chart reflects that - November 7 saw 47 titles released on that one day alone including many big hitters with Christmas number one aspirations. Look at the chart this week - the top four are all brand new entries."

The game is a flagship title for the PlayStation 3, with Sony claiming it will help sell console hardware.

"LittleBigPlanet has also sold well given that this is a brand new IP," he said in reference to the game's first week of sales which saw it coming in below three sequel titles, Microsoft's exclusive Gears of War 2, FIFA 09 and Fallout 3.

"Our industry is littered with examples of brand new innovative titles that have been lauded by the critics but have sold dismally," Wilson added. "But Sony is delighted and honoured to be working with hugely talented developers who can create brilliantly creative original games."

"LittleBigPlanet has broken this stereotype by not only being brilliant and original but also by selling really well on a global basis. LittleBigPlanet is breaking many preconceptions. There are some games that are hardcore experiences that the kudos lies in getting it first."

Wilson further explained how the title was built to benefit from long tail sales, in particular pointing out the title's ever growing resource of user-generated content.

"LittleBigPlanet is excellent on day one but even better as time goes by," he explained. "If you bought this game on day one, you'd play your 50 plus levels on the Blu-ray and dip into the 12,000 levels created by the beta testers. If you bought the game one week later you've got over 84,000 user created levels to play with. This game gets better and better as an experience and as a value proposition."

"It is also a game that will benefit enormously from word of mouth and from people trying it out with friends or in store - it drips fun and charm in equal measure. Also the bulk of our marketing including our six figure TV advertising campaign doesn't roll out until December, so we genuinely believe that Sackboy hasn't even hit his stride yet."

The title's route to market hasn't been smooth – the game was originally delayed for release due to complications with the soundtrack.

On release, many levels which infringe copyright have been deleted, highlighting the problems of allowing users to create and share their own content in the game. ...

Call of Duty: World at War has charged to the top of the UK all-formats chart this week, becoming the third fastest-selling game ever in the region.

The shooter beat off competition from World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King (in at two), which became the fastest-selling PC game in the UK of all time - a record previously held by Championship Manager 4.

But apparently football management games still draw the crowds. Football Manager 2009 enters the chart at three, proving that strategically placed adverts between big televised football matches pay dividends.

Last week's leader, Gears of War 2, falls to four - the spot previously held by Sony's system seller, LittleBigPlanet. That game, unfortunately, tumbled all the way down to 19. Oh dear.

And there were similar stories for other high profile releases, as Wii Music bucks the trend and enters at 16; sitting behind three other platform stalwarts: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play and Wii Fit.

Perhaps more shocking, however, was a first-week entry for DICE eye-catcher Mirror's Edge at 20.

Their struggles make the rest of the top 10 spots all the more valuable. FIFA 09 sold well to take five, followed by Guitar Hero World Tour up from 17 to six, thanks to the arrival of the instrument bundles.

Bizarrely, to us at least, charming DS adventure Professor Layton and the Curious Village managed to drop just one spot to seven, ahead of Mario Kart Wii at eight, PES 2009 at nine, and WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2009 at 10.

Other big movers and shakers this week were Fallout 3 down from three to 14, Quantum of Solace down from eight to 18, Far Cry 2 down from 14 to 26, and Fable II down from 16 to 27.

Quickly: LEGO Indiana Jones managed to burst back into the list at 21, as did Viva Piñata, albeit at 37.

This week waves goodbye to Saints Row 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Dead Space.

(Update: As a few of you have noticed, the chart this week is also noteworthy for the absence of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, which came out on Friday. Poor old Rare made 15th in the Xbox 360 chart, but couldn't dent the top 40, which you can see below. Ouch.)

Sony has come under fire for allegedly copying Sackboy costume designs from non-winning entries to a design competition held before the game was released.

Posters on the official PS forums pointed out uncanny similarities between their own submitted Sackboy designs and the new Sackboy costumes recently released for download.

Check out the similarities on the forum.

According to a Sony community man, it's all just a coincidence: "this was always going to be a possibility when we ran the costumer competition - releasing new costumes which are similar in theme to ones that were entered," said the rep under the alias Sam_Protagonist.

"Here's the fact of the matter," he went on: "The art team who are responsible for designing new original (ie unlicensed) costumes were involved at the very final stage of judging, by which time the number of entries had been whittled down to 10 from each batch of entries (Europe, Japan, USA).

"If at any time we take inspiration from a costume competition entry that didn't win overall we will contact the creator directly.

    Sounds reasonable to us. ...

Microsoft will have sold 25 million Xbox 360 consoles worldwide by the end of the month, the company said this morning

"The future of home entertainment is Xbox 360 - it's on demand, it's high definition, it's always social, it's all in one place," said Xbox boss Don Mattrick.

“With the New Xbox Experience we will reach the next generation of Xbox owners, 25 million and beyond. We are at a watershed moment, backed by the largest entertainment brands, with an incredible line-up of entertainment unmatched in any industry."

25 million units puts Xbox 360 above the total number of original Xboxes sold during that console's four-year lifespan, and Microsoft is keen to point out that it achieved this in three years.

Meanwhile, Sony has sold "nearly 17 million" PlayStation 3 consoles in its first two years on sale, and Nintendo has sold around 35 million Wiis.

This July at E3 Don Mattrick said, "I'm willing to declare here today that Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than PS3."

Tomorrow Microsoft reboots the Xbox 360 interface with the launch of New Xbox Experience, which introduces a party system, the option to install games to hard disk and personal Avatars among other things.

Speaking to Eurogamer recently, Xbox Live product unit manager Jerry Johnson said that NXE was a way of making Xbox 360 more attractive to people who happen by.

"When this is turned on in the household, the other person who walks by is going to see things and understand how to do some of these things," he said. "So I think it's taking that hardcore and almost making them evangelists just by the fact they're using this UI." ...

Sony marketing man John Koller has said that there are 14 million active PSN accounts.

PSN launched in November along with PS3 in US and Japan. Xbox Live launched on November 2002 on the first Xbox, and then in it's current guise on 360 in November 2005. That's quite a head start.

"PlayStation Network has truly hit its stride with unique downloadable games and a video delivery service featuring movies, TV shows, and original programming that you can watch in HD with your PS3, or bring with you on your PSP," said a pleased Koller.

"And with 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you're thirsting for this digital entertainment," he added. We think PSN accounts being completely free has a lot to do with the high sigh-up rate.

It's good news on the hardware front too. "There are nearly 17 million PS3 systems around the world, and in the United States, PS3 hardware sales are up nearly 100 percent from where we were at this time last year," gloated Koller in his PS Blog post, which pays tribute to PS3's second birthday yesterday. Happy birthday! ...

Sony has told Eurogamer that the wireless keypad for PlayStation 3 will launch here on 28th November for GBP 24.99.

This handy piece of hardware, unveiled during the Leipzig Games Convention, clips into Sixaxis and DualShock 3 controllers and apparently looks a bit like a Blackberry keyboard.

It also includes a touch-pad, like a laptop, that handles mouse input - which should make using the PS3 web-browser much easier.

On top of that, there are shortcut buttons for quick access to Communication and Message Box, ensuring navigation is short and snappy.

Look out for our thoughts on the wireless keypad closer to release. ...

Xbox Live has suffered connection issues over the weekend, with the service down for maintenance this morning only days before the launch of the New Xbox Experience.

Over the weekend many users reported being disconnected from the multiplayer and online service, while the Major Nelson blog tried to keep users up to date on the problems with multiple postings.

The service has maintenance scheduled for 10 am GMT today.

"As a result, Xbox Live and the My Xbox section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you won’t be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available with limited interruptions," wrote Larry Hyrb on the site.

"This service maintenance is in preparation for the new Xbox experience which will be available this Wednesday."

The New Xbox Experience is a completely new front-end for the popular Xbox live service, and introduces Avatar's as well as other new features to the Xbox 360's online community. ...

As part of a series of core titles that include the wildly popular Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit, Nintendo was expecting big things from Wii Music when it hit the shelves on October 20th.

Sales figures so far do nothing to back up these ambitions as in the first 11 days just under 81,000 units were sold, according to raw NPD data.

'Flop' would be too harsh a term to use at this early stage, but when you consider that Wii Fit sold just under 688,000 units in a similar period earlier this year it must be causing concern in the Nintendo camp.

Reasons for the low sales figures are that unlike the other key titles there's no innovative new hardware supplied with the game. The rhythm gaming market is also well covered by best-sellers like Rock Band and Guitar Hero and perhaps consumers are deciding that there's just nothing special enough about Wii Music to justify the expense.

Nintendo isn't panicking and uses the example of games like Brain Age, which started slowly but went on to sell 2.5million copies, as a more comparable model than its traditional best-sellers. ...
