At long last, Final Fantasy XIII fanatics can stop referring to that blond-haired dude with the bandanna as that blond-haired dude with the bandanna. Thanks to the latest Famitsu, he now has a name, and as promised it's based off the weather.

Meet Snow Villiers. As you probably know, he has blond hair and he wears a bandanna. Famitsu describes Snow as one of the l'Cie, those people who are chosen by the fal'Cie to perform some mission. He has a positive outlook on things, but often makes his move without thinking.

Famitsu speculates, presumably based off the many new realtime screenshots included on its pages (for those who have the magazine, all shots on the third and fourth page of the FFXIII feature are real time), that Snow takes his mission, as handed out fal'Cie, seriously. He believes that in following the mission, he will be helping to protect the world.

Now, we only need to know pigtail girl's name, and we can start engaging in real conversation about the main FFXIII game. ...

US retailers Amazon and Gamestop are offering eight free songs to anyone who pre-orders Xbox 360 karaoke game Lips.

The Zune team will choose the songs, according to the Microsoft Gamerscore blog, and offer one new track each week for two months.

There's no word on a European initiative or regular DLC price, but we're seeing the game soon, so expect our thoughts and possible bundle/date confirmation in prompt fashion.

Lips is due out in the US on 14th November according to Amazon and 18th November according to GameStop (fight!), incidentally, and retails for USD 69.99 with the microphones.

The game is, of course, the Xbox 360's rather late answer to SingStar. Developed by iNiS (Gitaroo Man, Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents), the clever bit comes in being able to sing along to music on your console hard drive, iPod or Zune.

We're not sure how, but the correct lyrics pop up, the vocal levels are reduced, and the game even gives a rating at the end of the performance. Wizardry.

Lips also has sparkly, motion-sensitive microphones for friends to wave around while others sign, plus a persistent character element where players eventually level up.

Tom had a chance to sing along after Lips was unveiled at E3. Head over to his lips-on impressions of Lips to find out more. ...

The first update to the new Android-wielding G1 will be beamed OTA starting tomorrow to all G1 customers, with updates going out through October 31st. It's warned to be a very minor update, featuring various light "enhancements" and a bug fix related to Amazon songs. That's it. T-Mobile warns, "Before you go nuts, remember this is only the first [update]. Let's make sure updates download, install, and just plain work as designed before we expect them to overhaul your experience." Since we don't want our phones to explode, it's a deal. ...

Microsoft has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that Gears of War 2 will not see a release in either Germany or Japan.

It has been known for some time that Epic's upcoming highly-anticipated sequel would not pass through Germany's notoriously strict videogames censorship, considering the original title's failure to see a release in the region, however the news that it will not be released in Japan will come as a surprise to some.

This news comes after reports that Gears of War 2 is already being offered on torrent sites, well before its official release. ...

Fallout 3 has been cancelled by Microsoft India for release in the region, with the company citing "cultural sensitivities".

Bethesda's post-apocalyptic title has been axed in the region due to unspecified content that Microsoft believes could offend consumers in India. Due to the distribution agreements in the region, Microsoft was set to publish the title on the Xbox 360 itself, while the PlayStation 3 and PC versions were never scheduled to be released.

"Microsoft constantly endeavours to bring the best games to Indian consumers in sync with their international release," said the company in a statement, reported by Gaming Indians. "However, in light of cultural sensitivities in India, we have made the business decision to not bring Fallout 3 into the country."

The latest sequel in the massively popular Fallout series already received much criticism for drug references, which were later removed.

This news breaks shortly after reports that Fallout 3 was leaked online and subsequently distributed through file sharing websites weeks before it's release date. ...

Being that the T-Mobile G1 launched officially today in the US of A, it makes sense that the phone's marketplace for applications would open its doors as well. A recent post over at the Android Developers Blog has affirmed that users can now indulge in over 50 apps, and moreover, it has laid out details surrounding the process for getting your own app in there. Beginning on Monday, prospective devs will be forced to "register and pay a one time $25 application fee" in order to ensure that they're "authenticated and responsible for their apps." After that, the programs will be "made available to users without further validation or approval."

Starting in Q1, developers will be able to distribute paid apps in addition to free apps, and similar to Apple's revenue model, devs will get 70% of the revenue, though it should be noted that Google won't be taking a percentage of the remainder. Go at it, you eager developer you -- we fully expect a gratis app showing off your handiwork to emerge on the 27th. ...

I got into Ace Combat 6 for the Xbox 360 far too late to get in on the hot, flightstick bundle action, and I've been regretting it for months now, especially considering the prices a used model of the special controller have been going for on eBay. Well these guys are going to feel awfully silly now as Namco Bandai announces the return of the Ace Combat 6 Flightstick bundle! Available exclusively at Best Buy, the pack comes complete with Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, the Hori Ace-Edge flightstick, a custom Xbox 360 faceplate, and a copy of the award-winning aerial combat documentary Speed & Angels. The total package retails for $149.99.

Despite all of the large, useless hunks of plastic littering my living room area, I shall not be truly fulfilled until this flightstick rests on my coffee table, buried under a pile of WoW cards, video game wrapper plastic, and Mountain Dew cans. Thank you Namco Bandai. ...

The first episode in the Penny Arcade Adventures series will be released on the US version of the PlayStation Store tomorrow, 23rd October.

Sony has yet to get back to us about whether it will be released on the European Store at the same time, but the press release says "other regions to follow shortly thereafter", so perhaps there's a bit of localisation holdup.

Developer Hothead Games has said it will cost USD 14.99 in the US, and that the existing PC, Mac and Linux versions sold via digital distribution will be reduced to match that price.

Over on Xbox Live Arcade, where the game launched in May, Microsoft set the price at 1600 Microsoft Points (GBP 13.60 / EUR 19.20), but Hothead boss Vlad Ceraldi hopes that will change for the second episode, due out this Christmas.

"Other platforms and digital distribution services can make their own decision regarding pricing, of course, but we're recommending under USD 15 for this and all episodes going forward," he said.

And PS3 owners won't have to wait long to carry on if they enjoy this one.

"Episode Two will be coming to PlayStation Network before Christmas and we are really happy how it turned out," Ceraldi added, following a 'gone gold' announcement recently. It should also arrive on XBLA and PC around the same time.

The PS3 version of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness - Episode One, to give it its full title, includes Trophies, score rankings and background music support.

You can find out what we made of it when it came out on XBLA by checking in with our Penny Arcade Adventures review. ...

Atari president Phil Harrison has told GamesIndustry.biz that he believes Sony took "absolutely the right decision" in recalling LittleBigPlanet over the controversial references made to the Qur'an.

Harrison, who was previously president of Sony Worldwide Studios before taking on his current role - and who championed the title from the very beginning - also thinks that the delay won't affect the game's ultimate success "one iota".

Answering a question as to whether the game is worth the wait, he didn't hesitate: "Of course," he said. "I can only base my answer on my own experience of playing the beta, which was knowing an awful lot about how that product was created, and the passion and energy that the team at Media Molecule and Sony put into it," he said.

"I downloaded the beta, I sat down to play it, and it's pretty rare that within five seconds of starting a game you fall in love with a bit of software. And it was just the most fantastic experience, the whole intro sequence, where you've got the narration and the video of the dreams coming off the people in real life, going up to form the planet - I just thought that was absolutely inspired.

"And that was done after I left Sony, so all credit to Media Molecule for that, or whoever was responsible. And then you get into the game and it was just smiles all the way.

"So I think people are going to be blown away by the game, and while I'm obviously sad for the stumble, I don't think it will affect the long term success of the game one iota."

Speaking on the eve of his keynote at the Unite 08 event in Copenhagen, Harrison added that the decision to pull the game wasn't one that would have been taken lightly, but one that was fundamental to the core mission of the game.

"I wasn't privy to all of the discussions and debate that went on within Sony, but I know they would have thought very deeply about it, and at the highest level of the company," he explained. "And on reflection I think it was absolutely the right thing to do, because LittleBigPlanet set out from day one to be a game for the entire world - and if there was anything that accidentally detracted from that vision and made the game not fun for the entire world, then the game would have fundamentally failed in its mission.

"So I think Sony took absolutely the right decision - painful though it was, and frustrating though it might be for gamers who were looking forward to it. It only seems to have heightened the anticipation, so I think it'll end up being a win, and full credit to Media Molecule for turning around a fix as quickly as they did."

GamesIndustry.biz will have more from the Unite 08 conference and Phil Harrison's keynote speech later. ...

The Fuze, otherwise known as the HTC Touch Pro, first turned up briefly on AT&T's website more than a month ago only to be abruptly pulled down, but it's now finally made a reappearance, and it's apparently staying for good this time. As you might expect, however, there's not exactly anything new to be found, with AT&T's description of the device identical to the one it first put up, but if you had any doubts that the device was in fact headed to AT&T, and that it would indeed be called the Fuze, you can now safely put those to rest. Now, about that release date... ...
