The industry will finally find out what form the PSP2 will take at a press event in Tokyo on January 27th, trade sources have confirmed to MCV.

Claims emerging this morning about an impending reveal for the long-rumoured PSP2 are true.

Publishers were informed late last year of the plans, with some of Sony's biggest parties already at work on titles for the high-specced device.

The date of the reveal itself is just the beginning, however.

This Friday's copy of MCV magazine has some exclusive industry insight - some of which will come as a huge surprise. Check back for the full story on MCVuk.com. ...

A number of sites have gone live with pre-orders for the Nintendo 3DS, with a placeholder price of £299 having been put in place.

Eurogamer spotted the listings on The Hut, WHSmith, Best Buy and Woolworths. What the site didn't note, though, is that all of these portals are run from The Hut's centralised system, effectively meaning it's a single listing.

Other retailers are yet to go live with a price.

Play.com and Amazon are allowing visitors to register their interest while GAME and others simply have placeholder page in place.

Concrete launch details for the machine will be unveiled next Wednesday at Nintendo's Amsterdam event. MCV has been lead to believe that the console will arrive in the UK on or around March 25th with a shelf price of £200-£230. ...

Atlus has revealed that its 3DS Devil Summoner title is an enhanced port of 2009's Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, which never made it to Europe but did appear in the US in June of that year.

That's according to a report in Famitsu (where else), translated by Andriasang.

Devil Survivor is a tactical role-playing game set in modern Tokyo, which has been overrun by demons. The centre of the city has been sealed off and you're trapped inside, fighting to find out what happened and simply survive, as the title suggests.

Previously the game had a neat gimmick where the story took place over seven days and the game always ended when that period was over. The 3DS version, Devil Survivor Over Clock, adds an eighth day on top of that.

That's not the only change though – there are now over 150 demons to contend with, new skills, full voice-acting (over 20,000 lines of dialogue), several difficulty levels, new maps, and visuals improved to suit the 3DS' higher-resolution screen (e.g. easier-to-read dialogue boxes and a broader map display).

Devil Survivor Over Clock is due out in Japan this year, although obviously there's no word yet on any western plans for the game. ...

Over at Edge Online, Sony has issued their response to the recent PS3 hacking by the fail0verflow team and the root key leaked by iPhone hacker George Hotz shortly after.

“We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it,” Sony told us in a brief statement. “We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details.”
However fail0verflow member pyteystill says otherwise though:

"The only way to fix this is to issue new hardware," he said. "Sony will have to accept this."

In the PlayStation 3 version of stupendous fighting game Super Street Fighter IV you can't see downloaded alternate costumes worn by your opponent if you haven't downloaded them yourself. In the Xbox 360 version you can. Why?

According to Capcom, it's down to Sony, which doesn't cover the cost of making additional data available to users. Microsoft, on the other hand, does.

"The DLC for the newest costumes is additional data that must be put on your machines from the first-party networks (XBL and PSN)," community manager and fighting game legend Seth Killian wrote on Capcom's forum.

"When you add new data to an existing product, there are significant costs to do so charged by the first parties. On XBL, those costs were covered by Microsoft. As a result, the data is distributed to everyone, so even if you have not bought the new costumes, you can still see them if you're fighting against someone that has because you still received the new data required to display them.

"For Sony, those significant costs are not covered. As a result, you only get the new costume data when you actually buy the costumes. Those that don't buy the costumes can't see them, because the new costume data isn't present on your machine, and so you only see costumes you already have the data to represent."
Killian added: "The story is a bit more complicated because the costs of adding new data vary by region in some cases, and some additions are free, or free within a certain timeframe, etc., but the bottom line in this particular case is that Sony would [have] charged Capcom significant fees for distributing the new costume data to users that hadn't actually bought the DLC. Microsoft covered those costs, so the costume data is visible to all there.

"I wish it were the same all around, but hope this info helps."

"Brand new video games can lose as much value in percentage terms in just three days as a car would over three years" - that's the eye-catching introduction to a report into the pre-owned games market by leading consumer watchdog Which?

It claims that a Ford Focus loses around 60 per cent of its value over three years. By contrast, Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops was found to have lost up to 70 per cent of its value in just three days according to the trade-in prices offered by some retailers.
Which? found that CEX offered the best trade-in prices on most prices. Three days after the release of Black Ops it was buying copies for £33 cash. GAME, in contrast, was offering just £16.70.

In addition, at the time of asking CEX was offering £13 cash for Red Dead Redemption compared to Blockbuster's £6.

"It's not too difficult to see why so many high street retailers are happy to take second hand games off your hands," the report reads. "When we checked the retail prices of used video games on the shelves of stores we visited, they were as much as five times as high as the price we were offered.

"Blockbuster, for example, was selling pre-owned copies of Red Dead Redemption £29.95 - a mark-up of £24 on the price they quoted us. GAME had Red Dead Redemption on sale for around the £30 mark, despite only offering us £6.70 for our copy."

Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword is only "half-complete" with Nintendo still working hard to make sure the gameplay experience is "more dense."

Yes, a month after Miyamoto himself declared that development on Zelda: Skyward Sword was "going gangbusters", it now appears unlikely that the game will be released in in early 2011 as Zelda veteran Eiji Aonuma had hoped.

Speaking with Pocket Lint, Miyamoto also revealed what the Skyward Sword development team is working on right now.

"What we are focused on is creating gameplay mechanics so the gameplay experience feels very dense," he said. "In fact, the overall experience is going to feel more dense. We hope that people will want to go back and replay the game once they finish it".
It looks as thought Nintendo is going to deliver on its promise to only release the game when it's perfect. ...

Microsoft has abolished plans to wipe away the Halo Wars online statistics after a passionate response from gamers.

"After seeing the reaction and passion from Halo Wars fans as well as Halo FPS fans who were concerned about the future of other Halo titles, we determined that the previously stated plan of action was not in line with our intended plan of loyal support for Halo' games,' said Microsoft in a statement to IGN.
The loss of online statistics was going to be collateral for Halo Wars moving under the Halo Waypoint umbrella. Forums will still be merged, MS clarified, "But other than that, nothing changes."

"If and when the location of accessing your stats changes, we will let you know at that point in time," MS promised.
Halo Wars, made by Age of Empire developer Ensemble, was released at the start of 2009. It was supposed to do for RTS games what Halo did for the FPS - bring the genre natively to console. That didn't work out, and Ensemble was shut down soon after, the staff force eventually reforming into three entities: Robot Entertainment to oversee Halo Wars, Bonfire Studios and Windstorm Studios. ...

Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror, the classic point-and-click adventure sequel to equally classic point-and-click adventure Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, is coming to iOS devices, just in time for the holidays.

Following the success of the original game - in Director's Cut guise - on Apple's mobile devices, Revolution Software is poised to unleash Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Remastered, continuing the adventures of George Stobbart and Nico Collard as they investigate a mysterious ancient Mayan artefact.

The Smoking Mirror - Remastered is set to get a similar makeover to its updated predecessor with new animated facial expressions, improved background and animation graphics, plus audio and visual enhancements to cut-scenes. The game also features Game Center support, a new context-sensitive hint system, an interactive digital comic, courtesy of Dave Gibbons, and Cloud saving by Dropbox. That last one means you can load and save your game across multiple devices - a feature we hope more developers introduce to their titles.

According to Revolution's official site, we can expect iPhone, iPad and iPod versions of the game "very shortly" with the remastered edition heading to PC and Mac early next year. ...
