    PicoDrive 3DS the Megadrive and Master System Emulator for Nintendo 3DS has been updated, heres whats new:

    v0.93 Released (28 Jan 2018)

    Against those who still own the old 3DS / 2DS or still care about the 3DS ... and if you still want to enjoy Sega MD games on your Old 3DS / 2DS at full speed:

    This is a port of nota's PicoDrive emulator to the old 3DS / 2DS. Although PicoDrive is already highly optimized for ARM processors, if it's still running, it's still in its infancy for mega games on the old 3DS / 2DS, as it's in the RetroArch's version. So this port is heavily loaded on the 3DS '2nd core to emulate the FM synthesized music for the YM2612 FM chip to achieve 60 FPS. But the 2nd core on the old 3DS is not enough to generate a synthesized music at a full 44100Hz, so sounds are generated at 30000Hz on an Old 3DS. It sounds ok for many games, except for those who use high-pitched notes or sound samples.

    The screen rendering is done completely using the original PicoDrive's ARM processor-optimized renderer.

    You can play Master System, Mega Drive games and Sega CD games, and 32X games. CD games run a little slower (you should enable 1-2 frameskips) on an Old 3DS, but it runs very well on a New 3DS. 32X games can only be played on a new 3DS using the .CIA version of the emulator. Some dynarec instructions for 32X games will crash the emulator (Virtual Fighter, Virtual Racing Deluxe have this issue).

    The default maps for the controls are:
    1. 3DS 'Y Button -> MD's A Button,
    2. 3DS' B Button -> MD's B Button,
    3. 3DS 'A Button -> MD's C Button,
    4. 3DS' X Button -> MD's X Button,
    5. 3DS 'L Button -> MD's Y Button,
    6. 3DS' R Button -> MD's Z Button

    This emulator uses the same user interface as VirtuaNES for 3DS, TemperPCE for 3DS, Snes9x for 3DS. It will run better on the New 3DS as usual, where all music and sound samples will be generated at 44100Hz.

    Putting up v0.93 for download:

    v0.93 Release Notes:

    - Fixed a sound bug that plays the previous sound from a CD-ROM game when you load up an SMS ROM.
    - Re-ordered region priority to US, JP, EU.
    - Added support for .32x extensions and 32X games.
    (but some games like Virtual Fighter, Virtual Racing Deluxe causes the emulator to crash, just like the RetroArch versions)
    - Fixed ASM version of the 32X rendering routines to prevent crashing, and blackthorne games.
    - Fixed the frame-rate bug that is not consistent with the frame-rate selected in the menu.
    - Enabled 32X / SVP dynarec when running in CIA mode and the necessary custom firmware is available.
    - Sets the default mapping for Sega MD's X, Y, Z buttons.
    - Fixed a read-ahead library bug that front caused small ISO games to boot to the CD player.
    - Fixed minor sound emulation issues and improved sound sync.
    - Fixed YM2612 timer bug.
    - Implemented more aggressive optimzation of the YM2612 assembly emulation. Less skipping in some games on the Old 3DS.
    - Fixed playing PWM samples by the DC Offset of the waveform (CSND is unable to reliably play the samples with a significant DC offset)

    Some very interesting news from Eurasia concerning the release of a new Homebrew bootloader for the Nintendo 3DS, heres the release notes:

    Derrek, profi200, d0k3 have released a homebrew bootloader for the Nintendo 3DS that is similar to android's fastboot. Quote: 'fastboot3DS is a bootloader for the 3DS console, intended to be installed to the FIRM0 partition. It allows you to assign homebrew in .firm format to bootslots, and to chainload bootslots via either a bootmenu or a button combo of your choosing. fastboot3DS also contains basic tools for NAND backups and restores.

    For Nintendo 3DS/2DS owners who have homebrew capabilities, heres a great release of a new NES Emulator for the console, heres the release notes:

    VirtuaNES for 3DS v1.01 is released. This is a port of VirtuaNES to 3DS as an alternative to existing NES emulators. It used to be considered one of the best emulators before FCE and Nestopia, and it runs quite fast for lower spec-ed computers (at the cost of some emulation accuracy). But because of that, the Old 3DS / 2DS is able to benefit from this fast running emulator core. This runs full speed on an old 3DS / 2DS with support for tonnes of mappers. Although it doesn't support every single mapper, the library of games that can run on this are probably fairly huge already.

    VirtuaNES for 3DS Changelog:
    v1.01:
    - Fixed cheats (previously cheats couldn't be activated whatever you did)
    - Fixed mapper problem in Kabuki Quantum Fighter

    v1.00
    - Added key mappings to fast forward (capped at 180 FPS), and open the emulator menu.
    - Updated configuration menu
    - Added feature to auto-save state
    - Migrated and fixed some mappers from VirtuaNESEx (thanks to the authors of VirtualNESEx)
    - The following mappers are fixed/added: 4, 7, 16, 23, 34, 47, 49, 52, 65, 69, 71, 73, 74, 86, 91, 92, 121, 132, 141, 148, 150, 162, 163, 166, 167, 168, 169, 170, 171, 172, 173, 174, 175, 176, 177, 178, 179, 189, 190, 194, 198, 199, 212, 235, 237, 240, 241, 252
    - Fixed VS mapper for Super Mario Bros
    - Added ability to map any 3DS key to insert coin for VS games
    - Fixed Lagrange Point VRC7 emulation for the Old 3DS by playing at 20KHz. The old 3DS was too slow to render sounds at 32KHz or even at 22KHz.
    - Minor optimizations for sound generation.
    - A number of games are fixed due to the mapper updates. Examples are: Crisis Force (Japan), Feng Yun (Ch), San Guo Zhi (Ch), and many others.

    For the last year ive been away from DCEmu and once you step away its hard to get back but I decided a while back that its time to go back to basics and condense all the sites as far as I can, get rid of meaningless sites and then when I have it all as I want it, get back to newsposting like I used to years ago, with that in mind, all our Nintendo News is now going to be under one site, that means all the DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, N64, Snes, GBA, NES, GBC, GB and any future news will all be together.

    When I start posting news again we will host our files also and get back to the good old days.

    Nintendo is yet to reveal the first details of its upcoming NX console, and we are unlikely to hear anything concrete until this year's E3 conference in June.
    The NX. Probably.

    Regardless, the internet is in a flap about a new set of rumours about a home console and handheld hybrid to replace both Wii U and 3DS.
    Adding fuel to that fire, today saw a marketing survey slide pop up on NeoGAFwith a fresh set of claims - and again, reference to the NX as a console and handheld device. Eurogamer has spoken to individuals who responded to the survey and can verify it exists.
    Whether Nintendo commissioned the survey and to what extent its information represents the console's final form is another matter, however.
    The slide describes NX software as having gameplay which "flows" between the console's home device and handheld.
    Players will be able to earn and share achievements, surf the web and make video calls - so far, so believable.
    But the survey goes on to mention "4k/60fps video streaming" and "gameplay graphics at 900p/60fps". Plenty of Wii U games are 1080p, which makes this claim stand out as odd.
    Eurogamer understands the survey goes on to quiz responders on how much they'd pay for the device and whether they would want a console with a disc drive (or not).
    Another question asks if users would be interested in a Netflix-style game subscription service.

    The survey was posted by major market research company GfK, the same outfit which collects game sales data for Chart-Track in the UK.
    Immediate reaction to the survey - especially the 900p detail - was negative. Although, as already stated, it is likely much of the information contained within was simply to test the waters. Consider the marketing surveys which Ubisoft sends out each year with suggestions for further Assassin's Creed. Some questions reflect features in upcoming games - which are by that point already well into development - while others are there seemingly to simply canvass opinions.
    If this does come from Nintendo, it is probable a similar tactic is being used here. Or, if not from Nintendo, it is another company's best guesses.
    The only thing certain at this point is that Nintendo will reveal details on NX when it is ready - either at E3, or to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei which will publish all the details online prematurely and spoil all the surprises (as has happened in the past).
    We've contacted GfK for comment.

    2016 is the 20th Anniversary of Pokemon, don’t you know? And part of the celebration sees three Special Edition 2DS making their way to the UK.
    Three systems will be released on February 27th, one each of which will be based on Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Yellow. Each will come with the Virtual Console version of its respective release pre-installed.
    Also in the box is a sticker sheet and a code to download a relevant theme.
    Existing 2DS or 3DS owners will also be able to download the games on the same day. 3DS owners will also be able to choose between two themed faceplates. Prices for the consoles or the games have not yet been specified.
    In North America it looks as if a different bundle is on the way. Also due on February 27th, the SKU includes a 3DS (non-XL), two alternative cover plates and both Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue pre-installed.

    Looking for a good deal on a refurbished Wii U, but don't like using Nintendo's clunky online shop? Now you have another option -- the company just openedan official eBay store, stocked with new and refurbished games, consoles and accessories. Don't expect to find any deals though: almost everything on the official eBay store conforms to current retail prices (fixed using eBay's "buy it now" feature) or Nintendo's existing refurb pricing.
