Yifan Lu the coder behind the Kindle jailbreak and mods and more famously PSXperia (running PSX games on Xperia Play) has revealed that he is now working on a Native Loader for the PSVita, basically its an Userland Vita Loader for loading unsigned executables on your Vita - Homebrew Loader for the PSVita - (not like VHBL which uses the PSP Emulator on PSVita).

The project comes from a PSVita exploit he has found and obviuosly wont give details of as of this time because of Sony plugging the exploit.

Theres no release yet but the sourcecode is being worked on as we speak. Yifan Lu has stated on his twitter account this

I hate piracy as much as any developer. If it wasn't made clear, it is physically impossible to run "backups" with my exploit.
    Also this:

Because your game is encrypted and again, physically impossible to decrypt or load retail games with my exploit.
For the Devs out there here is what he posted in full:

As of right now, I have not tried compiling the code yet. It’s mostly just pieces of code for things like the ELF parsher, resolving NIDs using module exports and syscalls from both imports and exports and etc. I am basically looking for people with experience in HBL to help me finish this. Currently, I am missing code to clean the memory (releasing heap pointers, unloading all modules, deleting threads, etc). But mostly, I want critiques on the current code and how things could be improved or if any of my assumptions in the code could prove false. I have tried to make the loader very portable (for other future exploits) by having lots of error checks and only using functions imported from sceLibKernel (which should be loaded by every game). If you want to help, just fork the code and send me a pull request when you’re done.
    Very interesting times ahead. ...

Ico will soon be playable on the PS Vita via Remote Play.
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony's worldwide studios, confirmed the functionality will be introduced through an upcoming patch for Ico HD."Sorry to tease you, I was play testing Ico HD Remote Play on PS Vita," he posted onTwitter. "We are almost ready with a patch. Beautiful on OLED. More info soon."
Remastered versions of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were released last year as a retail discm, with both games on one Blu-Ray disc, and individually on the PlayStation Network.
Yoshida went on to clarify the patch is for the PSN release of Ico.
Reports have suggested Sony intendeds make all PlayStation 3 games playable on PS Vita using Remote Play. The functionality was originally touted at TGS 2011, when Yoshida showed Killzone 3 running on the handheld.

In the wake of E3 in June serious questions were being asked about PlayStation Vita.
For all its whizz bang technology, high-end games and control schemes, the portable has yet to find its audience. And not just in the UK, but in Sony’s homeland of Japan, too.
So retailers looked to E3 to discover what Sony would do to transform the platform’s fortunes. Yet outside of a Call of Duty teaser, Vita was sidelined in favour of PS3. The trade wasn’t getting the answers it needed.
“At E3 we took a fairly deliberate decision to focus on PS3,” explains SCEE president Jim Ryan.
“I think with hindsight we should have probably spoken more about Vita because we had things to say.”
SCE UK chief Fergal Gara adds: “There’s definitely been an expectation that we should do more. I’ve picked up different reactions from retail over recent months. Some have been reasonably calm, cool and collected and saying: ‘You know what? The sales curve looks like the 3DS from last year. No panic. We expect a bigger spike into the peak season.’ Meanwhile others were saying: ‘You need to tell us more’.”
    VITAL SIGNS
Sony’s Gamescom showing focused heavily on Vita. There were hardware bundles, big brands and even a new IP in the form of Media Molecule’s adorable new adventure, Tearaway.
Best of all, Sony revealed more ‘cross-buy’ games. Consumers who pick up Ratchet & Clank: Q-Force, Sly Cooper or PlayStation All-Stars can own them across both PS3 and PS Vita for one price.
But the big focus was on the third-party brands due over Q4, including the power three of Call of Duty, FIFA and Assassin’s Creed.
“There’s been a certain amount of comment that third-party support hasn’t been what has been expected, and we wanted to lay that to rest,” says Ryan.
“And wheeling out FIFA and Need for Speed, and putting more emphasis on Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified. When you have got IP like that, and then added to LittleBigPlanet coming next month, it puts the platform in a good place.”
“If you were looking at peak season and you were saying what would be the list of IPs we’d love to have, the dream list would look quite similar to the real list,” continues Gara.
“And they’re not necessarily just replicas of PS3 versions, there are parallel storylines and complementary experiences that are not available elsewhere. So it’s not enough to own a PS3 version of it, or dare I say an Xbox 360 version of it. If you want that new and additional experience, there’s a real incentive to go down the PlayStation Vita route.”
Third-party support for Vita has come under some scrutiny, but the backing the device has achieved from Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Capcom, Warner, Konami and so forth has been significant. These firms have not just rushed through ports onto the platform, but carefully re-worked games or created exclusive products purpose built for Sony’s portable.
“We wanted to create a game from scratch from our biggest franchise and be able to launch at the same time as the PS3 version with links between the two,” says Ubisoft Europe boss Alain Corre. “Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation itself is a huge project for us and it brings a totally new experience to the gamers.
“I think this game can give a boost to the Vita when it comes out. It’s a flagship game and it’s an exclusive product and it will use all of the technological capacities of the Vita to become a fantastic product. In terms of state of the art handheld games, it will be one of the best ever made and I think we can help the Vita go into the next level as Metal Gear Solid did for the PSP when the PSP came out.”
Capcom’s US and Europe marketing VP Michael Pattison adds: “It made perfect sense to do Street Fighter X Tekken on Vita. I think we are probably one of the first companies to leverage most, if not all, the feature sets of the actual handheld within the game.
“Vita is important to us, we know it is a slow burner at the moment but I do expect Sony to rally around. It is a great piece of kit.”
    ACTION ‘STATIONS
Sony is putting its third-party support at the centre of its campaign this Christmas. Vita bundles featuring Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, LEGO?Lord of the Rings and Need for Speed: Most Wanted are being prepared, while these games will be central to Sony’s marketing campaign.
The UK team has pledged to spend more on marketing Vita this Christmas than it did during the platform’s launch in February earlier this year.
“We’re currently putting the finishing touches to our campaign that’s been created locally in the UK which allows us to focus on the unique challenges we face in this territory,” says senior product manager Ian Vinten.
“We’re backing this with the biggest ever spend for a Vita campaign. Our comprehensive TV plan kicks off in September and will run in key bursts throughout peak to Christmas, focusing on the brand new titles that are releasing for the device. Our first ad will feature FIFA 13 and LittleBigPlanet, both of ...

There's a bonus feature for PlayStation Vita owners who have updated to the system's new firmware: Sony has locked memory cards to specific PlayStation Network accounts.Gamers were previously able to switch PSN accounts via the slightly cumbersome process of "restoring" the system. Now, those with content from multiple accounts or multiple regions will have to buy another memory card or lose their data. One way to separate your content onto several memory cards is to copy it back to a PlayStation 3, NeoGAF users reported. But those with only one Vita memory card handy will need to go shopping first. It's a problem that will hit users who have accounts on multiple PlayStation Stores - useful as not all content is released in all regions. The move comes at an especially bad time - Sony has just enabled PSone game support for the Vita. Those who bought titles using a different PSN account to their handheld's will also need to juggle memory cards.

A YouTube user found a way to transfer more PlayStation 1 games to the PlayStation Vita using yesterday's firmware update, as opposed to the nine listed on the PlayStation blog. YouTube user FistFullofPotions discovered that downloading PSOne games to the PS3, leaving them uninstalled, then transferring them from the PS3 to the Vita seems to work across the board. As he notes in the video above, this is done at your own risk as these games haven't gone through Sony's quality control. We've confirmed the method with a couple of games, while NeoGAF and Twitter users also had success with it.

The workaround does more than enable more PSOne games on the Vita – it serves to highlight the strangely low number of PSOne games available on Vita in the US, especially when compared to the 129 listed in Europe and the 200+in Japan. We also discovered at least a couple of unlisted games, Cho Aniki andMoney Idol Exchanger, can be downloaded to Vita the usual way and apparently run OK. These games can be downloaded from the Vita PS Store. As long as there is a download button next to a PSOne game on your download list, it can be downloaded straight to Vita, no PS3 required. This is the same 'side-loading' method used to get PSP games that aren't available on the Vita store onto Vitas

Update: NeoGAF has a users-confirmed list of PSOne games that can be transferred using the PS3, and those that can be downloaded from the Vita store as well (in bold). The full list is after the break

Vita firmware 1.80 adds button controls to the main menu (finally!), and, in an ironic twist, also adds touchscreen controls to PlayStation Portable games. You can voluntarily play games with the touchscreen that were designed for buttons! Of course, more choice is always preferable to less, so enjoy experimenting with this new option if you want.

You can find the option while playing any PSP game by holding down on the screen for a few seconds. The new functionality allows you to set any corner of the screen as any PSP button. See for yourself in our gallery – which, yes, is photographs of the Vita screen. You still can't take screenshots of PSP games on the Vita.

The PlayStation Vita officially supports PSOne Classics games now. But not all of them, at least not officially. As of today, you'll be able to get .... thirteen of them from the PlayStation Store directly through the Vita. You can get many that aren't on the store, if you have previously bought them on PS3 or PSP, by checking your account's download history and downloading from there.

But that doesn't work for every game – many PSOne games are not available for download onto Vita through your history. Many of those can be copied to Vita from PS3 ... if you happen to have them sitting on your PS3 without installing them. And that doesn't cover all games either.

This is absurdly complicated, and doesn't make a damn bit of sense. And it's completely familiar to any Vita owner who has tried to copy their digital PSP collection over.

Today Sony released PS Vita firmware 1.80, bringing a swath of new changes to the handheld including UI tweaks, better music, playlist support, rear-touch functionality for the web browser, an interesting Cross Controller function and more.Of course the most exciting new addition is the new library of PSone classics. PS Vita owners certainly haven't been starved of quality games, with topsy-turvy action title Gravity Rush and music driven platformer Sound Shapesbeing two of the most notable recent releases, but the reduced quantity of new games is less encouraging.
Fortunately you can now pass time by indulging in some nostalgia or catching up on games you might have missed the first time around. Sony has named over one hundred PSOne classics for Vita that will be available for download from tomorrow.
We've looked through the entire list and picked out the five essential games. If you're looking for more to do with your Vita then these gems from yesteryear will no doubt provide you with hours of fun.

The new functionality comes courtesy of the v1.80 system update. Users can either download games directly onto their portables from the PS Store or transfer them from their PS3 console.
