Nintendo has revealed a new model of its Switch console is heading to Japan.
Rather than the rumoured Switch Pro, this is merely a modified version of the standard device which offers longer battery life.
According to a Switch comparison chart on Nintendo's Japanese website, the new model will last between 4.5 and nine hours, depending on the game you're playing. Zelda: Breath of the Wild, often used as the benchmark for Switch battery life, will drain the new model in 5.5 hours.
Kotaku notes that the launch version of the Switch had a battery lasting between 2.5 and 6.5 hours, with Zelda players given three hours before it's depleted.

rsn8887 has posted a new version of the Amiga emulator for the Nintendo Switch:

    Installation

    Switch:
    Download and unzip uae4all2_switch.zip
Copy the resulting folder uae4all2 to /switch/ onto your SDCard, ensure none of the "archive" flags is set.
You should now have the executable /switch/uae4all2/uae4all2.nro and a folder /switch/uae4all2/data/ with the keyboard icons and other data files on your SDCard.
Obtain and copy BIOS files kick13.rom (Amiga 500), and kick31.rom (Amiga 1200) to your SDCard into /switch/uae4all2/kickstarts/.
Optional: copy over additional BIOS files kick12.rom, kick20.rom, kickcustom.rom (for e.g. version 3.1.4 or any other user-supplied BIOS) to the same folder.
Use your favorite Homebrew Launcher or Homebrew Loader to start Uaeall2

MD5 of verified working kickstart rom files, you can test yours at onlinemd5:

    kick12.rom (256 kB): (MD5) 85AD74194E87C08904327DE1A9443B7A
    kick13.rom (256 kB): (MD5) 82A21C1890CAE844B3DF741F2762D48D
    kick20.rom (512 kB): (MD5) FA4ACC75B49E880679FE02716AF24D71
    kick31.rom (512 kB): (MD5) 646773759326FBAC3B2311FD8C8793EE

    Other files might work, too.

You can purchase legal bios roms from Amiga Forever. They work. But since they are encrypted, you have to copy over your .key file along with the roms.

Nintendo has finally announced the long-rumoured Nintendo Switch Lite.
Unveiled via a Direct-style video, the device is dedicated to handheld play and is looks much the same as the original model in handheld mode -- with the key difference that the joy-cons can't be detached.
The Switch Lite will launch this on September 20th -- alongside Zelda: Link's Awakening -- in three colours: grey, yellow and turquoise. A Pokémon themed version, featuring new legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta, will arrive with Sword and Shield on November 15th.
This handheld-only version of the hybrid Nintendo Switch will cost $200 -- $100 less than the "original" model.
The 5.5-inch screen is smaller than the flagship model's 6.2-inch one, and is still touch sensitive. The model overall is smaller, measuring 91.1mm by 208mm by 13.9mm (as opposed to the original's 101.6mm by 238.76mm by 13.97mm).
Internal storage is still limited to 32GB, with a MicroSD card slot for players to expand this.
As a purely handheld device, the Switch Lite cannot be connected to a TV. Symbols on game packaging already indicate which titles can be played in handheld mode. These are the only titles that will work with Switch Lite (which currently is the vast majority of the console's library. It is also not compatible with Nintendo Labo, as it does not have removable Joy-Con controllers.
In a bonus for die-hard Nintendo hardware fans, the directional buttons previously on the left joy-con have been replaced by a traditional D-pad.
The device also slightly shorter than the flagship Switch, and a few joy-con features have been removed, including the infrared sensor and the HD rumble.
It will still be compatible with multiplayer games and motion-controlled games, but players will require a separate set of joy-cons. These will also enable users to play games that are not compatible with handheld mode, using the Switch Lite as a screen (although the kickstand on the back has been removed).
Switch Lite can sync with up to seven other Switch or Switch Lites for local multiplayer modes, and still features a Wifi function for online multiplayer. It will also, per Doug Bowser speaking to CNET, eventually feature the ability to transfer save files from other Nintendo Switches. "More to come on there, but that is the intention," he said.

Classic Nintendo. Barely a month since its big E3 showing where it promoted its biggest products for the next six months, and it chooses now to announce a new Switch.
Of course, that is a little unfair. Nintendo were understandably wary of announcing a stripped back, portable only console at an E3 that was expected to see Microsoft tease a new super-powered console. Plus, now the announcement is out, you can see exactly why it decided to forgo the LA showcase... it's just not that exciting. It's a Switch, only without any of the innovative parts that made it interesting in the first place.
The announcement is most comparable to Nintendo's initial reveal for Labo, another product that didn't feature in one of the company's famous Direct videos, and was instead revealed separately. That alone should tell you how Nintendo thinks of Switch Lite. This isn't for the core gamer audience that watches Direct videos; it's for the mainstream, more casual games buyer.
"The announcement is most comparable to Nintendo's initial reveal for Labo"
Natural comparisons can be made between Switch Lite and PlayStation Vita, Sony's ill-fated final effort in the handheld games market. Both are high-end portables that play console-quality games and both are hugely successful for indies. Yet Switch Lite has the added advantage of not having to combat Nintendo's line-up of AAA games (because it has them), plus an install base and awareness that will enable it to hit the ground running.
And this is precisely what the Switch needed to reach a broader audience. The ability to bring down the price will also enable Nintendo to try and appeal to those 75 million 3DS owners as that console fades from view. And with a line-up of games from Nintendo's portable development teams -- including The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- means that the software is there to appeal to those fans. It's the ideal 3DS replacement.

    Article Preview

    • A quick update has been released for @SciresM 's Switch CFW, Atmosphère, bumping the version up to 0.9.1. Support for the latest available OFW (8.1.0) has been added and a few emuMMC-related bugs have been fixed. This, however, is not the general bugfix release the devs were talking about previously, so emuMMC should still be considered experimental for the time being.

The official changelog can be read below:
      Quoted from Changelog:
0.9.1 is Atmosphère's nineteenth official release.

fusee-primary was last updated in: 0.9.1.

With thanks to the @switchbrew team, Atmosphère 0.9.1 is bundled with hbl 2.1, and hbmenu 3.0.1.

The following was changed since the last release:
      • Support was added for 8.1.0.
      • Please note, emummc is still considered beta/experimental -- this is not the inevitable bugfix update for it, although some number of bugs have been fixed.
      • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

For information on the featureset supported by 0.9.0, please see the official release notes.
On a last note, fusee-primary has also been changed with this version. Remember to update it too if you're using it!

UPDATE: If you were not being able to boot with this release, re-download it from the repo. A bug has been fixed which caused the system to hang if there was no emummc.ini file present on the microSD card.

Nintendo's E3 Direct was once again packed with surprises, culminating in the announcement of a sequel to the seminal Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
It was a strong and varied line-up from the platform holder, with plenty of game reveals packed into the 40-minute presentation as well as dates and details on several Nintendo titles the industry was already expecting.
Here's a complete round-up of everything featured in the latest Nintendo Direct:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

While not the official title, Nintendo did confirm a sequel to the Switch launch title is currently in development. The teaser trailer showed Link and Zelda investigating a cavern, seemingly beneath Hyrule Castle, where a strange force resurrected Calamity Ganon.
There's no further details or word of a release date, but given that the trailer seemed to be set in the same world as Breath of the Wild, it's unlikely we'll have to wait as long as we did for the first title.
In other Zelda-related news, the Switch remake of Link's Awakening arrives on September 20, and now features a dungeon maker. Players will be able to earn dungeon chambers as they progress and rearrange them to create their own levels they can explore and beat to unlock key items.
Finally, Cadence of Hyrule, the Zelda-themed version of Crypt of the Necrodancer, launches later this week on June 13.

    Banjo-Kazooie back on Nintendo

Just before the Breath of the Wild sequel reveal, Nintendo confirmed the long-rumoured addition of Banjo-Kazooie to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. It's the first time the bear and bird duo has been seen on a Nintendo device since 2005's Banjo Pilot for Game Boy Advance, and yet another hint at a growing partnership between Nintendo and Xbox.
Banjo-Kazooie and Spiral Mountain stage will be added to the game in the autumn -- and there's more Smash Bros DLC heading to Switch before that. The Direct actually opened with the reveal that Dragon Quest's Hero character will be added this summer, and through the costume swap can be changed to resemble the protagonist from multiple entries in the series.

The Witcher 3 heading to Switch

Yes, the rumours were true -- CD Projekt Red's acclaimed fantasy RPG is arriving on Switch this year. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition will contain the original game and every piece of DLC, including the Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine expansions.

davidgfnet has ported the Dreamcast Emulator to the Nintendo Switch

    Hey there folks,

I'm glad to introduce you reicast for switch. This is a very rushed release, expect bugs and many issues, but in the next days a more polished version should be in order. Also a more proper release, since we don't have yet automated builds for switch.
The current version has some caveats: although it uses JIT (so fullspeed! in fact can go at x2 the speed easily) there's no exception handling yet, therefor things like texture invalidation don't' work well. This can be very limiting for some games, whereas others won't show many quirks. In fact just the BIOS shows this behaviour, textures in dialogs won't get updated

Well that's it, this is a very alpha version, so expect most bugs to get fixed soon. You might also wanna check out reicast on Android or PC (at reicast.com)
I'd like to thanks flyinghead for this tremendous contributions (he's the one to thank for the armv8 JIT backend), and of course skmp and all the crew that keep reicast great (although unreadable!)

    Edit: How to use it.
Yeah forgot to add that. You'll need the BIOS files at /reicast/data/dc_boot.bin /reicast/data/dc_flash.bin. The settings can be tweaked at /reicast/emu.cfg. I'd also place ROMs at /reicast on your sd card.
Notice that games using MMU won't work, that's WinCE games (I guess this list is reasonable: https://segaretro.org/Windows_CE).

Important: reicast needs some memory (like 512MB+), so launching the app via nb loader won't work if you use the Album thingy to launch it. This bit me during porting too. You need to launch a game (any game) and press the R trigger to enter the HB loader in "game mode". That should do.

    Love, davidgf

rsn8887 has released a new version of the port of Roller Coaster Tycoon to the Nintendo Switch:

    # OpenRCT2 (RollerCoaster Tycoon 2) port for Switch

This is my Switch port of OpenRCT2, a re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. A construction and management simulation video game that simulates amusement park management.

Data files from the original game are required to play this game. _RollerCoaster Tycoon 2_ data files are required to launch the game. Additionally, _RollerCoaster Tycoon 1_ data files are also supported.

    Port by @rsn8887.

    Installation

Download (see assets below), and unzip openrct2_switch.zip and copy the contents over to the /switch/ folder on your sd card, so that you have a folder /switch/openrct2 with many folders and files inside.

Copy all files and folders from a working Windows RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 installation to /switch/openrct2/rct2/ so that you have a files and folders /switch/openrct2/rct2/rct2.exe, /switch/openrct2/rct2/Data/, /switch/openrct2/rct2/Landscapes/, /switch/openrct2/rct2/ObjData/ and many more files and folders there. For my testing, I used the files from the gog.com version.

Optionally, you can also install the Windows RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 files. Just copy your complete rct1 files to /switch/openrct2/rct1/. Then you can select the RCT1 scenarios, and in options you can select to show the rct1 title sequence. For my testing, I used the files from the gog.com version.

Note: This game takes quite long to load at first, because it generates a bunch of cache files. Subsequent boots are much faster.

    Controls

Left analog stick = mouse pointer control
Right analog stick = scroll the map
    R = left mouse click
    L = right mouse click
ZR = hold to slow down analog joystick mouse, useful to precisely position the pointer
ZL = hold to speed up analog joystick mouse
    A = right mouse click
    B = left mouse click
Y = shift key, hold and move mouse up/down to build above the ground
X = ctrl key, hold and move mouse to build multiple pieces at the same height above ground
Dpad up = zoom out (page up key)
Dpad down = zoom in (page down key)
Dpad left = rotate construction object (z key)
Dpad right = rotate camera (enter key)
R3 (press right stick in) = open cheat menu (ctrl-alt-c)
Hold ZL + dpad left = close topmost window (backspace key)
Hold ZL + dpad right = exit construction mode (escape key)
Minus = toggle between three touch control modes:
Touchpad style drag pointer with finger and tap to click, default:
Move a single finger to move the mouse pointer. Use short tap for left click. Hold a single finger while tapping a second finger for right click. Drag with two fingers to drag and drop.
    Jump to finger without click
The pointer jumps to the finger, but the finger doesn't click. Use L/R or A/B to click
Jump to finger with tap click
The pointer jumps to the finger, and a short tap also generates a left click
Plus = bring up on-screen keyboard, useful for entering names, etc.
When pressing enter, it first erases existing text and replaces it with new text
Physical USB keyboard and mouse are supported. Not all mice work. There's a mouse compatibility
    chart.

    Current Limitations

    No network support

    Changelog

    v1.04

    Fix right mouse click input
Map object rotation to dpad left and camera rotation to dpad right
Map backspace to zl+dpad left and escape to zl+dpad right to make room for new rotation mapping

    v1.03

Map shift, ctrl, backspace, and escape keys, useful to build above ground and quickly close windows.
Map cheat menu hotkey, now works by pressing the right stick in.
Make joystick pointer speed truly independent of fps. It now moves at constant speed even if the frame rate is low.
The filtering options now work as expected. In docked mode, linear gives a slightly blurry image, and sharp nearest neighbor gives perfectly sharp pixels.
General image quality improvements in both docked and handheld mode. The internal rendering now dynamically switches resolution between 1080p and 720p instead of always rendering at 720p. Also, the mouse pointer looks a bit sharper now in handheld mode.
The window scaling option now works and can be used to blow up or shrink down the whole game screen, including the user interface.
Different game resolutions should also work in principle now. This involves editing the window_width and window_height entries in /switch/home/openrct2/config.ini. Only 16x9 ratios will work correctly. I think the default choice of 960x540 looks the best.

    v1.02

Fix mouse cursor not turning into a hand when hovering over hotspots in the park
Reduce joystick pointer speed slightly for easier control in-game.

    v1.01

    First release on Switch
