This week's Nintendo eShop update arrives tomorrow and adds Game Boy brawler Double Dragon to the 3DS Virtual Console.

Originally released by Taito in 1987, Double Dragon is the spiritual successor to arcade beat 'em up classic Renegade.

Also available is Nintendo's own Radar Mission, a Battleships-type affair designed by Game Boy creator Gunpei Yokoi. Both games will set you back €3 - around £2.70.

Nintendo has also announced the Kirby TV Channel, available tomorrow as a download for the Wii.

The application will stream 50 episodes of the Kirby anime, with four to be immediately available. Two new toons will be added each week, replacing older episodes.

Series Kirby: Right Back at Ya! was originally broadcast in Japan between 2001 and 2003. A trailer for the English dub, first shown in the US in 2006, lies below.

Kirby's Epic Yarn launched earlier this year and strung an 8/10 Eurogamer review from John Teti. Nintendo is now planning Kirby Wii, a previously canned GameCube game, for release this Christmas.

    Double Dragon - 3DS Virtual Console - €3
    Radar Mission - 3DS Virtual Console - €3
    Just SING! 80s Collection - 3DS/DSiWare - €5, 500 Points
    Delbo - 3DS/DSiWare - €2, 200 Points
NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits demo - Wii - free

A US district judge this week handed Apple a victory in its ongoing legal battle with Samsung, denying the latter its reciprocal discovery request for a peek at prototypes of the upcoming versions of the iPhone and iPad. The request followed a similar one filed by Apple, in order to view Samsung products, including the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, and Droid Charge. Samsung, for its part, argued that taking an early look at the Apple's upcoming phone and tablet would be relevant to the legal ruling, seeing as how any changes made in those upcoming products would affect the trade dress ("total product image") of the line, and thereby potentially alter the possibility of consumer confusion, an important factor in determining infringement with certain unregistered trademarks with the product.

The court denied Samsung's motion on a number of grounds. For one thing, Apple's initial complaint pertained to infringement of existing products, parameters deemed legit by the court. Also, the court took into account the fact that Apple tends to be far more tight-lipped about its product releases, whereas Samsung made a point of offering up information about forthcoming products into the public domain, including the release of 5,000 Galaxy Tab 10.1 units as samples to the public. That said, the judge was careful to note that Apple's suggestion that court protection of its trade secrets was insufficient "is not well taken." More details after the break.

The folks over at Microsoft Advertising are quite fond of their latest brainchild, so much so that they're calling the Kinect-enabled advertising platform "irresistibly interactive." NUAds -- which snaked the NU in NUI -- feeds off our need for interactivity, allowing advertisers to lure us in by enabling points of gesture and voice control. Think the latest Snuggie spot is super cool? Just say "Xbox, Tweet," and all your friends will know it. Want to know more about Mariah Carey's latest fragrance? Say "Xbox, More," and the info is all yours. Wondering where you can pick up a box of Nad's edible hair remover? Say "Xbox, Near Me," and you'll get a text with the location of the closest Nad's retailer. Want to vote on the hottest new Bratz doll? Give your girl a thumbs up. So Microsoft may have engaged a host of more respectable partners, namely Adidas, NBC, and Coca Cola, for its demo of the voice and gesture-enabled advertising platform yesterday, and NUAds does indeed serve up promotions in an entirely new way, but will it really change how we view the boob tube for good?

PlayStation Home virtual environment Aurora has seen over a million visits in just six weeks, according to publisher nDreams.

Appearing as a floating archipelago within PlayStation Home, Aurora is free to enter and allows visitors to play games, win rewards and purchase their own islands.

During the launch nDreams ran a competition called Aurora War in which over 300,000 players from around the world competed against each other.

As part of the PlayStation Network Welcome Back pack Sony are currently offering a free Aurora Orbrunner. In the future nDreams plans to open new areas, games and events, as well as Web browser support.

"We're very proud of Aurora and the success it has had so far. We certainly didn't expect to have so many visitors in such a short timeframe," said nDreams CEO Patrick O'Luanaigh.

"The space itself is still in a very early stage; we have so much more planned for Aurora, and we'll be adding to it regularly.

"We're huge proponents of virtual worlds and believe they offer a great way to escape from the stresses and strains of real-life without having to jump on a plane. And we believe that the next decade will see rapid growth in the number and the quality of virtual world experiences available online."

Adobe has released an update to its Flash Builder development suite which will see the technology support both Apple iOS devices and BlackBerry PlayBooks, allowing for the creation of cross-platform Flash apps for the first time.

Although Flash is still not supported on Apple devices, following a very public war of words between Steve Jobs and Adobe, the new support will allow developers to create a single version of an app able to run on any format - saving considerable time and effort.

An update to the Adobe Flash Builder MXML editor (aka Adobe Flex Builder) allows cross-platform apps to be created for mobile, Web and desktop formats using ActionScript and the Flex framework.

Promoted as "one tool, one framework, one codebase" on Adobe's blog, the new tool allows developers to build and distribute apps through the Android Market, BlackBerry App World and Apple App Store via a single chain of tools, programming language and code base.

Further information can be found at the official Flash Builder website.

Research firm Interpret has released its new report, 'Games and Girls: Video Gaming's Ignored Audience,' which finds that while the female audience in gaming has grown, games tailored to their needs and preferences continue to go missing. Women represent 50% of the market and their usage of HD consoles like Xbox 360 and PS3 is rising. 'It remains to be seen whether developers and marketers will effectively invest in understanding and exploiting the undertapped female gaming market,' said Courtney Johnson, analyst for Interpret.

    2. Android News

Christopher Mims writes at MIT Technology Review that Mika Mobile, developer of Battleheart, a big hit on both the iOS and Android platforms, says that "a polished, high quality product is more likely to be embraced on Android than on iOS because the quality bar on the android market is so pathetically low." Evidence to that effect comes from the fact that "on iOS, user reviews for Battleheart average 4.5 stars (4000 total ratings), which is quite good. On Android it's a stunning 4.8, with 1000 ratings," writes the developer. "So not only is it reviewed more highly, it's also reviewed more often, with a huge percentage of android users taking the time to rate the app. I think the lack of competition makes quality apps really stand out, and generates a lot of enthusiasm from app-starved android users." Mika Mobile adds that the most frustrating part about developing for android is dealing with the deluge of support e-mail, most of which is related to download and installation problems which have nothing to do with the app itself, and everything to do with the android OS and market having innate technical problems. "Do some googling for "can't download apps from android market" or similar wording, and you'll see that this is a widespread chronic issue for all devices and all OS versions," writes the developer. "Based on the amount of e-mails I get every day, download problems effect 1-2% of all buyers, or in more practical terms, somewhere between two and three s**t-loads.""

Nearly three and a half years later, Apple has finally been awarded the U.S. patent number 7,966,578, which according to the patent experts should worry rivals. According to exclusive interviews with patent experts, the incredibly broad patent puts Apple in a strong position when it comes to displaying content and using certain finger gestures on smart phones. The patent is so broad that not only will Apple's legal team target iPhone competitors but will also look to go after iPad and iPod rivals. Experts also discussed the scenario of Apple licensing its patented technology or for that matter, the courts completely scrapping the patent in public's interest

    2. Wii U News

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has finally said the words we all wanted to hear: "We want to create a real HD Zelda game for [Wii U]."

Sure, Nintendo showed off a Zelda HD tech demo running on Wii U at E3 this month, but it made a point of repeatedly stating none of the software on show represented real games.

That statement may be true, in that an eventual Zelda release may not look anything like the demo (remember that start difference between the Zelda GameCube tech demo at Spaceworld 2000 and the final look of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker that came after it).

Nevertheless, it's official. "[Wii U] is an HD system, our first HD system, and we want to create a real HD Zelda game for it," said Miyamoto.

"You will see a lot of these in-depth and deep experiences in terms of visual style. You will also see some play styles that are fun and interesting because of the play structure," he added.

Fingers crossed it'll look just like the hyper-detailed demo we saw if not better.
