2012 will see game streaming service Gaikai reach internet-enabled televisions, the firm's founder has claimed.

Ex-Shiny man David Perry told Gamasutra that "I will promise you this: you will see Gaikai on digital televisions in 2012, and it will not require any big [partnerships]. I would expect it to be on lots of televisions."

No additional hardware would be required, he claimed: "We're able to stream our [technology] into the TV without putting in any chip.We can put the Gaikai app on the Vizio TV without modification of the Vizio TV."

Gaikai is increasingly in competition with OnLive for the cloud gaming throne, although the company's focus remains licensing its technology to third parties such as publishers and websites, rather than selling product directly.

OnLive, meanwhile, yesterday claimed to GamesIndustry.biz that it expected to reach an audience of 75 million as a result of being supported by new upcoming TVs and Blu-Ray player, in addition to a newly-announced tablet version of its streaming software.

Cloud gaming service OnLive will add a total addressable market of 75 million consumers by the end of the year through hardware deals, according to CEO Steve Perlman.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at E3 this week, the executive confirmed that partnerships with TV manufacturers - like the Intel deal inked last week - will see the OnLive gaming system stealthily added to Blu-ray and TV hardware.

"We expect, and given estimates from the manufacturers, about 25 million internet TVs and about 50 million Blu-ray players," said Perlman.

"Really every hardware manufacturer wants OnLive built in because it adds value, and the minute one of them has it they all feel that it's a potential reason not to buy a TV if they don't have it. And it adds no cost to their TV."

"There's a lot of TVs being built now with Intel silicon in them - every Google TV has Intel silicon built in," he added.

Although not discussing specific partners, he did say that deals with manufacturers for Europe and other regions were already in place, and he hopes when OnLive officially launches in the UK this autumn it will be available in TVs, as well as through the MicroConsole and other formats.

"Our expectation is that we'll launch in the UK and you'll be able to get the TV with OnLive built into it. Combine that with iPads and Android tablets, PC, Macs and the OnLive Game System, it becomes a pretty large total addressable market."

OnLive thinks more like a media business than games company, said Perlman, where it can bring triple-A PC games to a wider market of portable and home screens.

"If we were a TV network they would talk about 'TAM' - total addressable market. Because anything can carry a TV network - satellite TV, cable TV, broadcast TV or you can send it over the internet.

"But with video games when you talk about total addressable market, what you're always talking about is how many Xbox 360's or how many PlayStation 3's are out there. OnLive is different, it's much more similar to a television channel or Netflix or LoveFilm.

"People will begin to think of video games not as a type of software tied to a particular platform, but begin to think of video games as a type of media, in the same way they think about television, music or movies," he added.

"Microsoft isn't the only company denying equal online footing to Windows XP users. Apple will not give PC users access to iCloud – its great digital locker in the sky – if their machines are running Microsoft's aging but still popular Windows XP. Tucked at the bottom of the iCloud announcement, Apple says you'll need a PC running Windows Vista or Windows 7 to jump into Steve Jobs' version of the interwebs."

Reason.tv Editor in Chief Nick Gillespie reacts to Apple's decision to ban DUI Checkpoint Apps from the App Store, writing: 'Let me add something even more damning of this latest development in corporate cave-ins to legally protected free speech and I'm gonna bold it for emphasis: Some police departments actually supply the data used in such apps because they reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads! Somehow, I'm thinking that Steve Jobs circa 1984...would have told U.S. senators sending threatening letters about computer-based info sharing to take a hike. Or at least to spend time on, I don't know, creating a freaking budget for the country rather than worrying about regulating something that helps reduce impaired driving.' Last month, after RIM caved on the same question, Reason.tv released this video on the subject of banning DUI checkpoint apps."

    2. Wii U News

Nintendo researching whether Wii U can work with more than one touch-screen controller
The once-inestimable potential of the Wii U console has been cut to size – with Nintendo confirming that only one screen-pad will work with each system.
Nintendo development boss Shigeru Miyamoto said Nintendo’s “basic premise is that you can use one [Wii U controller] with a system."
How this impacts on third parties hoping to bring dual-analogued triple-A games to the system is unknown, though it will likely become a talking point for developers.
Nintendo Wii classic controllers can work with the system, theoretically opening up the possibility of “core game multiplayer”.
It is not known if Nintendo is going to assure third-party publishers that it will manufacture and promote other “core controllers” for the system.

The success of the Nintendo Wii U, as a core games platform, is hinged on how third party studios work with the tech.
Nintendo’s business is selling the Wii U through exclusive games and innovative use of the tech, the company’s US boss said this week.
Today, Miyamoto told News.com.au that a 3DS could theoretically be used with the system.
“If we got to an idea of having multiple controllers it might just be more convenient for people to use their Nintendo 3DS and have a way to connect that," he said.
That claim suggests the Wii U can theoretically transmit visual data to more than one separate controller screen – a theory that Nintendo is investigating.
"We are doing research about if someone brings their controller to their friends house and they want to play together on Wii U to whether or not something like that would be possible," Miyamoto said.
The Wii U can play five-player games using up to four Wii Remote Plus controllers.

Over the years we have seen many homebrew sites come and go, but worryingly over the last few years homebrew and hacking sites have been brought by Millionaire owners as a way of getting major sites under their belts and often without the user even knowing.

If you look around all the Hacker and Homebrew sites now youll see that a heck of a lot of them are owned by Mega rich outside owners with funds way above most of our dreams.

Id like to know what people think about this, is it a good thing ?, with the recent hackings here at DCEmu and the struggle to bring back all the old site content i wish i had a lot of cash to buy the best. But is the taking over of hacking and Homebrew sites the start of sites losing their ability to say what they like and post what they like.

Today i read on a site that was started by a webmaster who said he would never sell out that they indeed sold out, im not mentioning any names but it stunned me, has the homebrew scene changed so much ? ...
