    The NES emulator HalfNES has been updated.

    Quote:
    HalfNES Version Notes:

    0.018 (11/24/2010)

    Timing fixes - Kid Icarus, Solomon´s Key, Adventures of Lolo 2, Jackal are now playable.

    Fixed a couple issues with the audio as well.

    (Periodic noise works, and channels don´t buzz when the periods are set to zero.)

    Mega Man 2 is where this improvement is most noticeable.

    The OS default look and feel is used instead of the Java default now, which

    means the Open dialog is improved.

    Saved games should always save on close now, no matter how the window is closed.

    XorLoser released a new version of XexTool:
    [QUOTE]
    I have been meaning to update this site for a while, and also to release updates for XexTool and the Xex Loader for IDA. So over the weekend I finally got around to doing so.

    For those who don’t know, XexTool is a windows command line tool that gives info on every aspect of an Xbox360 xex file. It also extracts the file that the xex is based on (usually an exe file) and has the ability to alter most of the various flags and parameters set inside an xex file.
    What's new/fixed:
    * finally fixed the patching ability where the target file is smaller than the source file. hopefully it is fixed properly
    * fixed handling of bitfields in version structs (only affected big endian systems)
    + added support for natal/kinect related flags
    + added support for xex date restrictions
    + added support for xex console id restrictions
    + added support for xex device id restrictions
    + added support for xex keyvault privileges restrictions
    + added support for extra debug memory entry
    + added support for a few new xex flags and system partitions

    The IDA loader for XEX files enables you to directly load an xex file into the IDA disassembler in order to look at what the internal code is doing. This is extremely useful for developers and reversers. If you don’t know what IDA is or what this loader does, then this tool isn’t for you.

    With the release of C4E's iXtreme LT+ for LiteOn and BenQ drives with 'anti'-AP2.5 the guys over at abgx360 also released a new version of their software.

    What's new/fixed:
    * AntiPiracy 2.5 (AP25) replay sector for iXtreme LT+ firmware is checked for when a game has the AP25 system flag in the Xex set or when its media ID matches a list updatable through abgx360.dat (Fable III is the only game so far that uses AP25 but does not have the AP25 system flag set)
    * AP25 replay data is Verified/AutoFixed according to your settings, albeit separately from the normal INI based Verify/AutoFix, so make sure to read the entire abgx360 output
    * Video padding size changed to support the new AP25 replay sector using a variable which is updatable through abgx360.dat in case additional stealth sectors are needed so that the video padding check will not blank them out
    * Removed short explanations of ISO filesizes (unnecessary, hard to keep updated and misleading in terms of SplitVid; just because an ISO has the space for SplitVid doesn't mean it has valid SplitVid data in that space)
    * gzip compression is now supported when abgx360 downloads certain files
    * miscellaneous small changes
    * Note: The GUI has not been changed and will still display version 1.0.2, don't worry about it as long as the CLI app displays v1.0.4

    A minimal PlayStation3 FTP server written with the help of PSL1GHT (PSL1GHT - Lightweight PS3 Homebrew SDK)

    1) To start the FTP server, just run the PS3-FTP.self via ps3load/wiiload or install the
    PS3-FTP.pkg and run it directly from the XMB on your PS3.

    2) Configure your FTP Client to use passive mode and only one FTP connection at a time.

    3) Connect to your PS3's IP on port 21 with an FTP client of your choice. If you don't
    know the IP address of your PS3, go to Settings -> Network Settings in the XMB, it is
    listed there along with other network settings.

    PS3-FTP has been tested and should be compatible with the following clients:
    * Filezilla
    * FlashFXP
    * CuteFTP
    * WinSCP
    * Windows Explorer
    * BSD/UNIX FTP shell client

    4) To stop the server once it is running, you have to be connected to your PS3 with your
    FTP client. Press and hold down the X button on your controller and terminate the
    connection of your FTP client or just close the FTP client on your PC completely.
    The PS3-FTP server should then shutdown and your PS3 should return to the XMB.

    If you are a developer, you can also stop and restart PS3-FTP via telnet. Simply
    connect to the FTP Port (21) of your PS3 via telnet and type "QUIT!" or "QUITR". If
    you are running Unix and have the "expect" interpreter installed, you can use the
    "stop" and "restart" scripts that are located at the repository's root directory.

    Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in Take-Two's financial year 2012 (April 2012 to March 2013)
    At least that's according to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey, who goes on to predict the game will sell 16m units and generate $750m.
    According to GameSpot, the analyst also expects BioShock: Infinite to arrive that year, and that the shooter will sell over 4m units and make $182m.
    Why so many? Hickey points to an increased install base for PS3 and 360.
    His analyst note also suggest that Take-Two will enjoy a successful 2011 - even without Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto. He cites LA Noire, Max Payne 3 and Duke Nukem Forever as key sales drivers for the period.

    Sony's long-rumoured PlayStation Phone is expected to be officially announced on December 9, ahead of a planned commercial launch in February 2011.

    That's according to MobileCrunch, which is carrying a photo of an event invite received by French tech blog Nowereelse.fr. The invite features an image of the four PlayStation symbols alongside a picture of a telephone.

    A source claiming to have seen the PS Phone first hand told the site that the event invite is real, and that the device's screen is "mind-blowing", on-par with the iPhone 4s retina display.

    Apparently the PS Phone is "nowhere near ready", but Sony-Ericsson is nevertheless aiming for a February 2011 launch.

    The off-contract price of the handset could be in the region of $500, with the purchase including five free games. Games will likely be priced like mobile titles and not downloadable PSP ones, meaning under $10, the site also reports.

    The first pictures of the as-yet-unofficially-unannounced PS Phone hit the net last month.

    Sony subsequently discussed how it may bring a PlayStation Phone to market - and even hinted that an iPad-style tablet might not be far behind.

    Microsoft is reporting an 80 per cent rise in the number of registered developers for its windows Phone 7 since September.

    With the total number of prospective app and game-makers for the iPhone rival now topping 15,000, the company is convinced WP7 can be a success.

    "We're heading into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year and we're on pace to offer roughly 3,000 apps and games by the end of this week," claimed Microsoft's senior director for Mobile Platform Services Product Management Todd Brix.

    "Clearly we're just getting warmed up. The developer community is placing some big bets with Windows Phone this holiday."

    However, figures have suggested that Microsoft's new mobile OS (currently split between nine different smartphone models) sold just 40,000 on its US launch day, despite a $100 million marketing campaign.

    By contrast, Apple claims to have sold 270,000 iOS devices per day, while Google claims to enjoy 200,000 daily Android sales.

    One of the chief architects of Sony's motion sensing platform PlayStation Move reckons the upcoming Star Wars game for rival motion sensing add-on Kinect won't be much kop.

    Anton Mikhailov, a software engineer at Sony Computer Entertainment America's research and development department and the brains behind the algorithms that make the Eye camera interpret movement of the Move controller, reckons "there's no way Kinect can do a good lightsaber game".

    And while LucasArts and Sony are yet to announce a Move-compatible Star Wars game, Mikhailov guaranteed, "It'll be damn better than Kinect's."

    "I'm not in the product planning division so unfortunately I can't tell you much more about that," Mikhailov told Eurogamer when asked about a possible Star Wars Move game. "But technologically it's 100 per cent feasible.

    "We can overlay objects over the controller in AR. You've seen that in Start the Party, and swords are a really popular one. The fidelity is certainly there to do all sorts of Star Wars kid-style action. You can very well do the lightsaber."

    The main difference between Move and Kinect is an obvious one: Move uses a controller the EyeToy camera detects, while Kinect offers controller-free gaming.

    Star Wars Kinect was unveiled during Microsoft's E3 2010 Project Natal extravaganza event with a short trailer.

    It's set for a Christmas 2011 release, and, according to Kinect poster boy Kudo Tsunoda, is "super compelling".

    However, there has been concern surrounding the project - we've seen nothing of Star Wars Kinect since its brief E3 2010 video demonstration.

    The game is quietly in development at Ghostbusters: The Videogame creator Terminal Reality, which is using the Infernal Engine to build it.

    The video shown during E3 2010, which you can see below, suggests Star Wars Kinect is an on-rails third-person action game in which the player wields an imaginary lightsaber and duels Darth Vader.

    Mikhailov added: "I'm usually not very aggressive, but I will say it'll [Move's Star Wars game] be damn better than Kinect could ever do.

    "There's no way Kinect can do a good lightsaber game. Just never. Unless they give you a stick. If they give you a stick then they can do OK, but then they're going to ruin their whole no controller motto.

    "I've seen the demo but it's so scripted, and wasn't it like, faked?

    "Technologically I find it hard how you can do a lightsaber, because there are so many ambiguities, and it's nearly impossible to track the angles of your wrists.

    "I can sort of see them doing it, like hold your hands together and move like this [holds them out in front of his body], and then from the x, y, position and for the angle. If anyone's listening, you guys should try that. That would probably work all right."

    Mikhailov should know: he revealed to Eurogamer that Sony stopped research on 3D camera technology before it settled upon Move.
