Square Enix has announced that the PC Collector’s Edition version of MMO Final Fantasy XIV will be released in Europe on September 22nd. The standard SKU will hit retail on September 30th.
The PS3 version of the game will not be released until March 2011, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
The PC Collector’s Edition includes a behind-the-scenes DVD, a special branded security token, a FFXIV branded tumbler, map, a travel journal including concept art, the Onion Helm in-game item, a 30-day free trial period for the game and a pass that allows a guest to play for free for a limited time.
The monthly subscription fee will be £8.99 (€12.99) with additional characters available for £2.10 (€3.00) a month. A maximum of eight characters can be registered on any one account.
Each account is eligible for one free retainer (a non-playable character that maintains item sales and storage when users are logged out) with each additional retainer costing £0.70 (€1.00).

A beta version of the PC game will go live some time in early July. It will become available to pre-order with key retailers at some point today. Those who pre-order will receive another in-game freebie – a pair of Garlond Goggles that increases the speed at which characters progress.
Those who register their FFXIII Campaign Codes will receive the Asuran Armguards DLC, an extra that improves the effectiveness of tools.
“This September, players around the world will join together to explore the fascinating and exciting realm of Eorzea,” the game’s executive producer Hiromichi Tanaka stated.
“We’re presenting players with a new style of online gameplay, that we know will please avid fans of online games, but welcome more casual gamers as well with the variety of gameplay and story-driven content.”
The specs for the PC version are as follows: Windows XP/Vista/7, Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or AMD Athlon X2 2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 15GB HDD space, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 512MB or ATI Radeon HD 2900 512MB and DirectX 9.

Mortal Kombat 2011 has "the most robust online fighting game system ever imagined," modestly claims the game's lead designer, John Edwards.

Speaking in a recent interview, Edwards revealed that the NetherRealm Studios team is considering new characters, Fatalities and fighting styles for the new game's recently outed DLC.

"We have a really robust online system. I can't go into too many details but it's going to be pretty much the most robust online fighting game system ever imagined. Just look forward to it," he told GamingUnion.

"We're planning on having DLC for a lot of things. Maybe new characters, new Fatalities, it's pretty much open for anything. We have support on the back end for backgrounds, new attacks, tweaks to fighting styles, all that"

Bold promises indeed. So far, all we know about the new MK's online offerings is that it'll include a mode in which up to four players can battle tag-team, and another in which two players can team up in 'Arcade Mode'.

Warner Bros. announced the new Mortal Kombat game for release next year earlier this month, alongside a pretty brutal Mortal Kombat trailer.

Xbox director of product management Aaron Greenberg has clarified his earlier statements on the future of Lionhead Studios' Milo & Kate, to indicate that the game is merely not due for release this year.

"Project Milo absolutely continues in development at Lionhead Studios, it is just not a product we plan to bring to market this holiday," said Greenberg on Twitter.

Speaking on Australian television, Greenberg was previously asked why Milo and Kate was not featured at E3 2010, despite being so prominent at E3 2009.

"The Milo Project is something that Lionhead Studios in their labs had developed. Last year we unveiled the Project Natal technology, we showed a bunch of technology demos as part of that," said Greenberg at the time.

"And obviously [Milo] is a technology demo that continues to exist, but right now it’s not a game that we’re planning to bring to market," he added.

Clarification that the concept will still result in a retail product has also come from Lionhead Studios' Sam Van Tilburgh. As reported by website Joystiq, Van Tilburgh Twittered a imagine of the project's development team.

Although the exact status of the project remains unclear, Van Tilburgh indicated that, "There's about 50 people on the 'Project Milo Team'".

US-only video on demand company Hulu has confirmed that its services will be appearing on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, following months of speculation on both formats.

Sony's console will be the first to debut the service, with rumours last week of a $9.99 subscription service being borne out.

The new Hulu Plus service will launch as early as next month, with more content available than on the free browser-based website. A maximum resolution display of 720p will be supported, compared to just 480p on the website.

The option to watch entire seasons of television shows, ranging from Family Guy to Glee and The Office to House, will also be offered for the first time, with the entire run of some older shows now being supported.

No additional information is currently available for the PlayStation 3 launch, although website Kotaku suggests that access to Hulu Plus may also require users to join the new PlayStation Plus subscription service.

Hulu is currently focusing on the launch of Hulu Plus on the iPhone and iPad. The service will also be available on Internet-enable televisions and Blu-ray players from Samsung, Sony and Vizio.

No mention of support for the Xbox 360 has been made by Hulu themselves, but Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) has indicated that Hulu Plus will be available in "early 2011". Hryb also promised that "it will not be a port, but rather a custom experience that leverages the Xbox Live community features".

Currently revenues for the web-based service come solely through advertising, with Hulu Plus marking a major change in business plan for the company - although it will still feature some advertising content.

Hulu is unavailable outside of the US and attempts to create a similar service in the UK have so far been frustrated by a lack of licensing deals.

"Hulu Plus is not a replacement for Hulu.com. Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service", said CEO Jason Kilar on the Hulu blog.

"Is our work done? Not even close. There are more shows to license, more countries to expand into, and more product features to build. And we will," he added.

It is shockingly easy to gain access to an AT&T customer's voicemail using caller ID spoofing techniques. What's worse is that AT&T knows about it. On your Android phone, download one of the two caller ID spoofing programs. Input the number of your target as the destination number and then enter the same number as the spoofed caller ID. Then connect your call. If the target has not added a voicemail password (the default is no password), you will be dropped into a random menu of their voicemail and eventually can drill up or down to get what you want. You can change greetings, erase messages, send voicemails out of the target account, and much more. How many politicians up in arms about Google Wi-Fi sniffing will want to know more about this?

Sometimes, news items are just about a good laugh. You may or may not like Apple, but the way it has been handling their antenna issue has been like a small tech soap-opera. Steve Jobs, the CEO, claiming "not to hold the phone that way", rumors or software issues, and the latest but most crunchy part, since the antenna issue has been widely discovered, on the 23 june, several "Antenna engineer" positions opened up at Apple. Seems someone got fired: Antenna engineer job position 1, Antenna engineer job position 2, Antenna engineer job position 3."
I just figure they did all their testing in California, where AT&T dropping calls is as common as $4 coffees.

The recently featured 36-hour port of the original Palm version of Lemmings to the iPhone and Palm Pre has received a cease and desist letter from Sony. Only one day after submitting the app for approval on the two app stores, the developer has put up a post stating that he 'did this as a tribute to the game — we can only hope that Sony actually does a conversion for platforms like iPhone and Palm Pre in the near future.' The text of the cease and desist letter is available from the developer's website."

US developer Appy Entertainment says its FaceFighter series of iOS games have been downloaded more than 3.8 million times. That includes both free downloads of FaceFighter Lite, and paid downloads of FaceFighter, FaceFighter Gold and iPad spin-off FaceFighter HD Face2Face.
Appy also says that nearly 33 million individual sessions have been played on the games, adding up to more than 250 man-years of playtime.
Meanwhile, players are sharing 2,500 images a day collectively on email, Facebook and Twitter.

The game lets people create a boxer with the face of a friend, via a photo-import feature, then batter the living daylights out of them, sharing the bruises for posterity.
The game was originally released in June last year, and Appy says updates are on the way for all the existing games, with a new title coming in Autumn.

Yes, there’s a problem… Oh no, wait, there isn’t… Apple can’t quite seem to make its mind up about its official line regarding the now infamous iPhone 4 antenna issue.
Now BoyGeniusReport has got its hands on Apple’s procedure documents that are given to AppleCare customer service reps tasked with fielding calls from those getting in touch to complain about dropped calls on their new handsets.
Perhaps the most interesting thing to note is the insistence that Apple is not handing out free bumpers and looks unlikely to in the future.
    Here’s the text in full:
    1. Keep all of the positioning statements in the BN handy – your tone when delivering this information is important.

    a. The iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped. Our testing shows that iPhone 4’s overall antenna performance is better than iPhone 3GS.
    b. Gripping almost any mobile phone in certain places will reduce its reception. This is true of the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, and many other phones we have tested. It is a fact of life in the wireless world.
    c. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 3GS, avoid covering the bottom-right side with your hand.
    d. If you are experiencing this on your iPhone 4, avoid covering the black strip in the lower-left corner of the metal band.
    e. The use of a case or Bumper that is made out of rubber or plastic may improve wireless performance by keeping your hand from directly covering these areas.
    2. Do not perform warranty service. Use the positioning above for any customer questions or concerns.
    3. Don’t forget YOU STILL NEED to probe and troubleshoot. If a customer calls about their reception while the phone is sitting on a table (not being held) it is not the metal band.
    4. ONLY escalate if the issue exists when the phone is not held AND you cannot resolve it.
    5. We ARE NOT appeasing customers with free bumpers – DON’T promise a free bumper to customers.

Sega's Yosuke Okunari, producer of the upcoming XBLA and PSN Dreamcast re-releases, has explained the company's Sega Saturn snub.

In an interview with Impress Watch, the Sega man explained the decision to skip offering downloadable Saturn games was down to the global failure of console.

"The Genesis and Dreamcast are well known, but Saturn is unknown. During that period, PlayStation and Nintendo 64 were a success overseas, but to be honest Saturn was not a success. Because of this, we decided on Dreamcast," he said.

However, referencing the PlayStation 2 port of Nights, Okunari argued that Sega hasn't ignored the Saturn.

"It's not that we're ignoring Saturn I think you can see this, considering that we ported Nights Into Dreams and other titles," he said.

There may be some hope for Saturn fanatics, as Okunari stated that Sega are still considering ports of Saturn games and invited readers to share their requests.

"What we announced this time is a project where we will have consecutive releases of titles that were debuted on Dreamcast. Separate from this, we're of course thinking about ports of Saturn games. It's the same as how Sega Ages and Virtual Console were separate existences. It's not that we have no intention of porting Saturn titles, so please share your requests."

Although the Saturn wasn't a success, it gained popularity amongst 2D fighting game fanatics and was home to a number of memorable new Sega games such as the Panzer Dragoon series.
