Microsoft has confirmed that Wolfenstein 3D is coming to Xbox Live Arcade.

According to the product page that's recently appeared on Xbox.com, Nerve Software is handling the port but no release date has been set.

Our betting is that we could see it appear on XBLA over E3 (remember Doom hitting Xbox Live during Microsoft's pre-E3 conference in 2007?) or closer to the launch of Wolfenstein later this summer.

Details on Infinity Ward's anticipated upcoming shooter Modern Warfare 2 were made available in the most recent issue of Game Informer. The article tells how the game's campaign mode will feature Captain 'Soap' MacTavish, who returns from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as a non-playable character, and will continue on with the tale of the previous game.

The game's campaign stages, according to the article, will be more open and varied, though the overall length of the campaign will be roughly similar to the six to 10 hour duration of Modern Warfare. Gameplay mechanics will include climbing the icy slopes of a mountain with ice picks and riding on snowmobiles. There'll also be some sort of shift in the way enemies attack. No longer will seemingly endless waves spawn in until you step across an invisible line. Settings will range from a snowy mountaintop in Russia to Rio de Janiero, Brazil, which will be a more sprawling level than any present in Modern Warfare.

A new mode in the game, called Special Forces, will consist of a number of isolated stages not tied to the narrative. There was no indication of precisely how many of these Special Forces stages would make it in, but according to Game Informer it'll be a "major part" of the game. More interestingly, while the story campaign will be single-player only, the Special Forces maps will allow two players to run through co-operatively.

Details about Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer element were scarce, though Infinity Ward told Game Informer it wanted to emphasize making players famous based on their accomplishments in matches.

US videogame industry sales fell 17 for the second month running during April, the NPD Group has reported.

Hardware sales dropped eight percent to $391.63 million, software sales declined 23 percent to $510.74 million, and accessory sales fell 15 percent to $129.45 million.

"While April sales might appear soft on the surface, it's important to remember that April is being compared against a month (April 2008) that realised nearly 50 percent growth over April 2007," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. "This year's performance still represents the second-best performance for the industry in the month of April, besting April 2007, which is the previous second-place holder, by 26 percent."

Year-to-date US industry sales now total $5.28 billion, four percent down on revenues generated during the first four months of 2008, which turned out to be a record-breaking year for the industry.

"Given how strong the growth was in the industry last year, there are still some months ahead where year-over-year comparisons may be difficult, but May should be an easier comparison than the last two months have been," said Frazier.

"Despite being compared against last year, when several big title releases drove both software sales and hardware acquisition, April 2009 was down only five percent on a unit sales basis, with the remainder of dollar sales decline coming from reduced average selling prices. Easter fell in April this year which undoubtedly helped cushion the decline.

"While the continued difficult economic environment is a factor to consider, our monthly Consumer Spending Indicator study still shows that video games is the category that consumers tell us they're least likely to cut their spending on in coming months."

Torches, banners, music ID and lighters - everything that's useful when you're knee-deep in mud.
Apple has put together a collection of apps it thinks will be popular across the fields of Europe during this year's music festival season.

The apps range from the useful in the form of Shazam music ID, Facebook for those all important updates and Last.fm, to the more practical such as Masayuki Akamatsu's banner message generator and John Haney Software's Flashlight.

But top of the list has got to be Moderati's freebie Virtual Zippo Lighter for all those slower numbers.

Got a bit of couch cushion change weighing you down? Need a little something to revitalize that PS3 love affair? You've come to the right place, friend. SNK has just unleashed a new duo of fighting sticks over in Japan, and both are downright drool-worthy. The new controllers are being launched alongside King of Fighters XII this July, with one featuring artwork from the title and the second boasting a Neo Geo throwback vibe (pictured after the jump) that should resonate quite well with gamers of yesteryear. The tandem is priced at ¥6,279 ($65) and ¥5,229 ($54), respectively, though we get the feeling it'll be import or bust for us Yanks.

Sounding too good to be true, the cats at Teamxbox have posted a lengthy piece quoting multiple sources from Redmond and Santa Clara who anonymously spill the beans on what the Zune HD is and isn't. The "digital entertainment handheld," dubbed unanimously as product "xYz" by said sources to emphasize its purpose of bridging the Xbox and Zune platforms, is not a phone (that's Project Pink) but a converged "mashup" of devices like the Sony Mylo, PSP, and iPod touch. The emphasis of the device is not the hardware but the software, services, and entertainment experience if offers while remaingly primarily "a portable game console and media player." It's said to link into Microsoft's Skybox computing services for mobiles and blur the lines between Xbox Live and the Zune and Sky Marketplaces. Even the Xbox 360's NXE interface will be making its way onto the new Microsoft handheld. As Teamxbox summarizes:
Buy a song, a movie or a TV show on your Xbox, play the content later on the handheld or the other way around. Play an Xbox Live Arcade game either on your Xbox or in this handheld.
At the moment, we have no way to authenticate any of this beyond what we've brought to the table already. Honestly, having had our hopes crushed by a tepid reaction to market trends from Microsoft in the past makes it difficult to believe all these seemingly fanboi fantasy claims of specs and convergence. However, if true, if Microsoft finally breaks free from the rigid silos of its own making and delivers an integrated living room, gaming, and portable media experience along with a stable Windows 7 computing environment... well, wait this just can't be happening.

We'd heard rumblings that Tony Hawk was working on something with motion controls -- which seems only natural after EA's Skate hit the scene with its intuitive Flickit control scheme, and Shaun White's game put the Wii's Balance Board to good use, both making the Tony Hawk method of arcade-style button mashing feel a little dated. Well, Tony's new Ride is looking to change all that, with a skateboard peripheral that looks like... a skateboard. It's hard to tell from just looking at it how precisely interactive the controller will be -- it seems basic balancing and leaning would be in, while Christ Air-ing your little sister in the face wouldn't go over so well. According to the man himself, Hawk is quite good at the game, and skateboarders should find the transition easy. A promo video is after the break, and apparently on June 2nd we'll be seeing this thing in action.

I try not to visit tehskeen (nor link to a site with open hostililities to me) anymore, it was a a great website back in the gamecube scene days and i supported the webmasters actions over sites like maxconsole and ps3 news or what ever incarnation it was then, but recently attacks on me, marcan and whoever else and then the newspost the other week saying that he doesnt want drama on the site and the suicide newspost which really should be kept off any news site.

But today i was pointed to a thread where Tantric one of todays great coders for the Gamecube and Wii has been banned from tehskeen for not exclusivly releasing his emulators there. From what i can gather and this goes back to the gamecube days where brakken and others basically forced users to compile releases than release them publically, which was rather miserable.

Anyway heres the forum post and you can make your own assumptions:

Tantric has been banned from Tehskeen for denying Brakkens demands to "distrubute the emulators on TehSkeen where they belong". Read the email below for the full details.

This seems like a very interesting turn of events. Honestly I would have never seen anything like this coming. Talk about scene drama! I have to agree with Tantric's choice - the emulators do not belong to tekskeen. They are open source, and should be kept that way - from open contribution to distribution. Secondly, I really don't see brakken's beef? I'm not really sure what the issue is. It seems he is trying to use the emulators as a website promotion technique, with complete disregard for the developers, the open source license, and the users. None of the aforementioned parties are tehskeen, and they are THE main stakeholders in terms of these emulators.

The fact that the emulators are released simultaneously in many channels seems to be brakken's issue here. I wouldn't worry too much about it brakken, especially since the emulators now have an auto-update feature which means nobody but new users might download this from any other source. Moreover, new users would probably use homebrew browser anyway.

Time to be frank. It is not fair that brakken has banned tantric from tehskeen. Tehskeen is the only website of its type that the emulators are officially 'released' to anyway. Wiibrew doesn't count as it is a public wiki. Tehskeen is the primary benefactor of this arrangement, getting thousands of hits with users going there almost solely for support, and in turn looking to other parts of the site. Again, I have no clue what brakken is thinking doing this as one of the main reasons people go to the site is to discuss these emulators, expecting responses from their developers. If brakken wants a tehskeen logo on the main menu he should make his own version to distribute. Brakken: you're getting enough benefit from the arrangement as is. Why don't you just go ahead and ban eke-eke and whoever else won't exclusively distribute on tehskeen as well? Think this over carefully - it doesn't make much sense at all.

Basically what I'm looking for is for you (Brakken) to un-ban tantric and return things to the way they were before, which was perfectly fine in my opinion, and probably those of most of your users. I am curious to hear what all of you skeeners think. Also, I do not mean to offend, but it's hard to keep a straight tone with what is in my opinion a rediculous expectation and actions.

Here is the email Brakken sent Tantric, which I have posted with his approval:

    Tantric,
I have given this much thought and I need to speak my mind. The emulators you've been working on where originally SkeenDev projects. When I asked you if the new GUI would include TehSkeen's URL you said yes - this didn't happen. When I see you talk on IRC in #wiidev you say TehSkeen doesn't contribute to the emulators. Maybe this is so regarding coding, but TehSkeen's users always comment on your releases. I am greatly offended by your lack of support for TehSkeen. It seems you have chosen the side of the #wiidev community who are for the most part anti-tehkseen.
I don't care about hits. You release an emulator here and the threads get around 2,000 unique hits. I don't care. What I care about is respect. You said you'd include TehSkeen's URL in the emulators, but it seems you want to keep the site out of it.
You said on IRC that no one contributes, but we do! I support your releases, tehskeen members give you feedback. The original authors all decided to release the emulators on TehSkeen.
You, however, have setup a SVN. I agree it's a better way to handle projects, but then the respect issue comes into play. You could just as easily release the binaries exclusivly on TehSkeen and keep the source code seperate.
There are many sites that are loving the fact you release the binary on Goggle. They are curroupt and won't link to TehSkeen due to this fact.
What am I suggesting? You remove the binary releases from Google. You can release them here. I can set you up an FTP or give you access to the downloads database -
