Fans eagerly awaiting the American release of Muramasa: The Demon Blade should keep their eyes peeled for some new publishing news in the near future. First, IGN has learned that XSEED Games, formerly set to debut the title stateside, will no longer be handling distribution. The company released a statement to IGN confirming this news this morning.

The port house behind the Xbox Live Arcade releases of Banjo-Kazooie and it sequel says it'd "love" to bring more of Rare's N64 classics to the 360 download service.

Speaking to fan site MundoRare, 4J Studios co-founder Paddy Burns said he's got his "fingers crossed" that more Rare port jobs are offered to the stuidio.

"We'd love to keep working with MGS and Rare so I guess just keep your fingers crossed along with us," he said. Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark and Blast Corps then, please.

Elsewhere in the chat Burns assures fans that the long-discussed Stop 'n' Swop feature reincorporated into Banjo-Tooie XBLA (which has been dated for April 29) will be the "original plan" for the canned '64 feature.

"The Stop 'n' Swop legend is a monster amongst fans of the series; so, with that in mind, we hope people will enjoy and appreciate what has been done", he said.

"We have implemented, under MGS and Rare guidance, the gameplay that completes the SnS journey; it is, as much as anyone can say, the 'original plan', and everyone involved thinks it's cool.

"It's certainly more than a reward system. Bearing in mind we cannot create new areas, gameplay or content, it wasn't trivial to implement either.

"It does mean that XBLA Tooie is different to the N64 version, for those who know the original game, we couldn't give you the 'original plan' if the eggs and ice key remained from the N64! If you don't have Banjo-Kazooie you'll never see them, just like you wouldn't have 10 years ago..."

    Banjo-Tooie will cost you 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20). ...

The Universal Society of Hinduism has called for Sony to withdraw PS2 game, Hanuman: Boy Warrior, recently released in India.

In the game you take control of Hanuman as a powerless boy, and regain his powers as the game progresses. But Rajan Zed, president of the society, says "controlling and manipulating Lord Hanuman with a joystick/ button/keyboard/mouse was denigration", and that "reimagining Hindu scriptures and deities for commercial or other agenda" hurt its followers.

He added: "Lord Hanuman was not meant to be reduced to just a 'character' in a video game to solidify company/products base in the growing economy of India."

Zed goes on to state: "Video game makers should be more sensitive while handling faith related subjects, as these games left lasting impact on the minds of highly impressionable children, teens and other young people."

Hindus, he says, welcome the entertainment industry's embracing of the religion, but only if taken "seriously and respectfully".

Sony has refused to comment. ...

An anonymous developer has confirmed that a WiiWare sales threshold - below which a studio makes no money - exists, but says it has been misinterpreted by the press.

"I'm concerned this recent threshold news is generating an artificially negative wave of press. The spirit of the threshold was never to screw the developer - it was, as far as I can tell, a quality control mechanism to prevent the service from getting overrun with a bunch of crappy games," the source told our sister site Eurogamer.net.

"Once the threshold is crossed, the developer is retroactively paid for every single unit sold below the threshold. I know there has been confusion on that point in the past.

"From the stats I've seen and heard developers report, the threshold is easily surpassed within the first day, or at least the first week, for many games," the source explained.

"I hear rumours within the dev community that Nintendo recognises a problem here, where occasionally an entirely legitimate game just doesn't make it, and is looking for a way to make exceptions, to ensure small devs are paid even if the threshold is not reached. Just rumours though, so who knows.

"I just fear this is one of those things that sounds a lot more evil than it actually is," added the source.

Earlier this month, it was reported that many indie developers struggled to meet the sales threshold, which Nintendo said was a "private and confidential matter". ...
