Wii Device Library is a cross platform C# class library that provides an interface to various Wii related devices, like the Wiimote, Classic Controller, Nunchuk and Balance Board.

It’s possible to use Wii devices like the Wiimote or Balance Board with your computer. All you need besides one of these devices is some kind of bluetooth device. This could either be a bluetooth dongle or bluetooth built into your pc or laptop.

When using the Wii Device Library you don’t have to worry about all the bluetooth stuff, you can just access your device of choice through a simple and intuitive interface. Also new Wii devices and extensions can be implemented by this interface without recompiling Wii Device Library.

Another nice feature is the ability to scan for Wii devices through bluetooth and connect to them when they are available. This makes it possible to automatically connect to Wii devices when they are syncing. It uses the libraries of several bluetooth stacks to scan, connect and communicate with the Wii devices. Also this part of the library can be extended with support for more bluetooth stacks and/or operating systems.

    Supported Wii devices

    Wiimote
    Nunchuk
    Classic Controller
    Guitar
    Balance Board
    Supported bluetooth stacks

    Microsoft bluetooth
    BlueSoleil
    BlueZ
    Features

A simple and intuitive programming interface.
The ability to scan and connect to Wii devices.
Wiimote extension support with a wide range of implemented extensions.
    Support for multiple stacks.
The ability to extend the library to support more Wiimote extensions, devices and stacks.

    News via aep

ShadowTJ has released a new version of his Xbox Emulator for Windows, heres the release info:

    Dxbx 0.0.9 is out now!
With this special xmas release of Dxbx we want to show anyone who
is still following our progress what has been changed in Dxbx.

Not everyone has the possibility to compile the Dxbx sources from sourceforge,
so for your convenience we provide a setup too.

A lot has happened since the 0.0.7 official and the none-official 0.0.8 release.
Unlike version 0.0.7, we now provide the necessary DLL files inside the setup.
So no more searching for the dll`s on the internet.

    DLL`s that are included:
Cxbxkrnl.dll - this is the original Cxbx DLL
DxbxKrnl.dll - this is the dxbx delphi ported version of Cxbxkrn.dll

When using the Cxbx.DLL, Dxbx can run up until the movie in Turok
(the main game we're trying to emulate first), but not any further, as
controls are not fully implemented yet.

When selecting loading an game's default.xbe file, Dxbx converts it
to a windows-native executable; Make sure you save that file in the
same folder as where the game's Xbe file was located.

(You could save the exe somewhere else, but this has not been tested.)
Also the DLL`s of Cxbx or Dxbx need to copied to the game folder.

Don't forget : When using Cxbx.DLL, you'll also need to make sure
that msvcrtd.dll and cklibver.dll are in your path!

About XDKTracker : A few visual improvements where made and
lots of xbox games are added to our collection.

Special thanks to N1ghtjar and Nexxus for making so much xbe dumps!
Thanks to them and others, we now have a significant list of 300+ game
dumps (among other things containing the XDK versions they are linked to).

Xiso has also lots of changes, especially speeding up to extract the Xiso format.

    Happy holidays everyone.

When Activision trademarked Guitar Hero Modern Hits, we had little to go on outside of the title and a suspected aversion to whatever Activision's calling a "modern hit." Thank goodness for ESRB leaks!

Because now we know, for the most part, what Guitar Hero Modern Hits is: another Nintendo DS entry in the Guitar Hero line. How will it differentiate itself from Guitar Hero On Tour and Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades? New tracks!

The ESRB description is pretty staid — "This is a music and rhythm simulation game in which players can perform songs on a guitar. Players follow on-screen prompts to hit notes in-time with the music and are scored based on their accuracy." But it also reveals some of the tracklistings.

It lists potentially objectionable lyrics for Sum 41's "Still Waiting", Franz Ferdinand's "The Fallen" and Finger Eleven's "Paralyzer" a rather reliable indicator that, you know, these songs will be in the game.

Hey, Activision-Blizzard has to pump these things out as quickly as possible, before its loses that precious Game Boy Advance slot so necessary to the Guitar Hero DS experience. The Nintendo DSi is going to be here before you know it.

For those of you who celebrate Christmas, the packages have all been unwrapped, the boxes popped open, that new smell obliterated. So tell us, did you get anything cool and gaming related for Christmas?

I just hope it wasn't a pair of these fabulous gaming boxers I discovered at a local store the other day. One is for Guitar Hero, the other for the Playstation, neither for any self-respecting gamer. I resisted buying them despite the fact that had I, I would have been able to write my first ever "crotch on" impressions of something.

I don't typically get any game related goodies, though I did land a Chumby and a super-kick ass pencil box. YES, PENCILS!!!

    What about you?

Every man, his dog and his dog's pet rabbit have a "best of" list. This isn't one of those. This is Metacritic's "best of", meaning it was compiled not by fragile human subjectivity, but numbers.

Courtesy of MTV (who did the original legwork), then, here is the list of 2008's ten (well...fifteen, since it includes ties) best video games, as judged by a collection of games writers then mediated by the laws of mathematics.

    1. Grand Theft Auto IV (98 — 360, 98 — PS3)
    2. LittleBigPlanet (95 — PS3)
    3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (94 — PS3)
    4. BioShock (94 — PS3) and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (94 — PS2)
    5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (93 — Wii) and Gears of War 2 (93 — 360)
    6. Chrono Trigger (93 — DS) and Braid (93 — 360)
    7. World of Goo (94 — Wii, 91 — PC / AVERAGE: 92.5)
    8. Fallout 3 (93 — 360, 92 — PS3, 92 — PC / AVERAGE: 92) and Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Armor (92 — PC)
    9. Rock Band 2 (92 — 360, 91 — PS3 / AVERAGE: 91.5)
    10. God of War: Chains of Olympus (91 — PSP) and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (91 — PC)

Persona 4? World of Goo? Chains of Olympus? No complaining from anyone about that list, OK?

As a bonus, Metacritic is also obviously able to tell us what 2008's worst games were in the eyes of the critics.

    1. SPOGS Racing (18 — Wii) and Pong Toss: Frat Party Games (18 — Wii)
    2. Beauty Factory (22 — PC)
    3. Homie Rollerz (23 — DS)
    4. Jumper: Griffin’s Story (28 — Wii) and Racing Team Manager (28 — PC)
    5. Jumper: Griffin’s Story (29 — 360) and Game Party 2 (29 — Wii), Beat’n Groovy (29 — 360)
    6. George and the Jungle and the Search for the Secret (30 — PS2), Woman’s Volleyball Championship (30 — PS2), Vampire Rain: Altered Species (30 — PS3), Ford Racing Off Road (30 — Wii) and Crazy Mouse (30 — 360),
    7. Toy Shop (31 — DS) and Rapala Fishing Freanzy 2009 (31 — PS2)
    8. Falling Stars (32 — PS2), Best of Tests DS (32 — PS2), Iron Man (32 — PC) and Code of Honor 2: Conspiracy Island (32 — PC)
    9. Target: Terror (33 — Wii) and The Incredible Hulk (33 — PC)
    10. Jackass: The Game (34 — PC) and King of Clubs (34 — Wii)

Glad Vampire Rain made the cut. There's two hours of my life I'll never get back thanks to that pile of shit.

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was always going to make three 360 games. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and action RPG Cry On. Now, according to 1UP, he'll only be releasing two.

Developer and Mistwalker collaborator (they worked on Blue Dragon DS) AQ Interactive have announced that the project - which has been missing in action for a few years anyway (it was first announced in 2005) - is now dead in the water.

A statement issued by the company says "AQI decided to cancel the project after analyzing the current market environment and forecasts for the future. We deeply apologize for troubling those who were awaiting its release".

At the rate levels based on other people's IP are being pulled from LittleBigPlanet, you'd think there wasn't a company in the world that was cool with kids using their stuff in their Sackboy playgrounds.

But, according to Media Molecule, there are companies that are cool with it. Loads of companies. Speaking with IGN, MM's Alex Evans has said:

...the other point is the number of IP owners who came up to us and said please whitelist us – we'll never ever ask you to pull infringing stuff. I can't say who that is, but those two things really shocked me, I think it shocked [the IP holders], who were like, hang on, my IP's being represented and it's being represented really well. The IP holders have to have last say over the representation of their brand, and that's fair enough, so we've always got to have a method for people misusing a brand, but what's been really lovely is how well represented so many brands are.

So it's not all lawsuits and corporate chest-beating, then.
