phosphorous has posted an entry into the Neoflash Coding Contest:

The Good Bookr is a Bible reader for the Sony PSP, based on the open source Bookr ebook reader. A major goal of The Good Bookr is to provide a robust search interface which lends itself to Bible study. The Good Bookr uses SQLite to store, search, and retrieve Bible texts. It also uses Danzeff OSK for the search interface.

    What's New
This version is exclusive to the Neoflash compo and adds support for looking up and cross referencing the original Greek and Hebrew words using Strong's Concordance. It might not sound like much but it adds a whole new depth of study. This addition required a lot of code as well as data crunching for storing the texts in a custom format.

    Other Features

Load a specific book, from Genesis to Revelation.
Search by keyword, chapter, or verse.
    Bookmark individual chapters and verses.
    Navigate via book and chapter.
    Configurable controls.
Select font face and font size.
    Customize font and background colors.
Rotate the text to read vertically.

Quantic Dream has confirmed to Eurogamer plans for a pre-release demo of PS3 exclusive-of-the-moment Heavy Rain, while hinting at the potential for downloadable content in the convention-smashing adventure.

"Yes, of course, there will be a demo," said studio president David Cage, speaking to us the morning after the long-rumoured game was finally unveiled during Sony's GC 2008 conference. Given the nature of the title, however, demo content is likely to steer clear of the main story, instead focusing on conveying the game's unique mechanics.

"We need to think about it, but I wouldn't want to spoil the story," Cage added. "We've spent a lot of time working on the story this time; we've worked with people from Hollywood, script writers, to really make it just right. And I think it's a very unusual story for a videogame, so I think people will be quite surprised."

The gameplay walkthrough we witnessed earlier today was described as a separate episode not related to the main storyline, and this points ahead to ways in which Quantic Dream is considering expanding the game with downloadable content, as well as future titles.

"This is something it's really too early to talk about, but it's definitely a possibility," Cage revealed. "There's so many possibilities with this thing, because what matters now is just the story you want to tell. Do you have a good story to tell? Then you can do it, because this thing isn't specific to the series. You can tell any story with this interface, because it's entirely contextual."

Look out for a detailed preview of the Leipzig demo soon, and if you haven't already, be sure to check out the announcement trailer on Eurogamer TV. Heavy Rain is due out on PS3 next year. ...

Sony has announced plans to follow up this summer's Buzz! Master Quiz for PSP with another handheld title based on Relentless Software's famous quiz series.

This time though it's a Brain Training, er, tribute, called Buzz! Brain Bender (a brave name for British playgrounds), which is due out this Christmas.

Trip-B, as we're calling it for one paragraph only, boasts 16 mini-games designed to improve memory, observation, calculation and analysis.

For analysis, there's Path Finder (a maze game) and Power Struggle (work out who wins in a tug of war between different vehicles), while for observation there's Match Up (work out how many pairs of contestants there are) and Pattern Match (identify shapes to fit a grid).

Then for memory there's Take Away (identify missing cards) and Sound Bites (recall the order animal sounds were played), and for calculation there's Blot Swot (solve maths problems despite missing numbers) and Sliced Up (work out how much food hasn't been eaten).

Single players will be able to tackle these in a training mode, the objective-based Challenge mode and a Test mode that tracks your progress over time.

You'll also be told how much power your brain's outputting in kilojoules, and then shown the equivalent, like a vacuum cleaner or a jukebox.

Finally, there's multiplayer where you pass the PSP around a group of up to six people to take part.

Check out the Buzz! Brain Bender PSP screenshot gallery to see what it all looks like. ...

Here you are then; nine new screenshots from Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, straight from Midway's lovely Leipzig press disc.

You can see the Sub-Zero chinning The Joker, The Flash getting flying kicked into a wall and all sorts of cross-universe scuffle madness.

No glimpse of the new mid-air combat though, which has you exchanging blows during a DoA-style plunge through the scenery. Check that out in the latest footage here.

    It's out in the autumn.

Here's Atari's latest shots of Xbox 360-exclusive race Race Pro, from the motor-obsessed blokes at veteran studio SimBin.

It sounds (and looks) decent; powered by its own physics engine Lizard, the developer promises "unrivalled realism" and "deep immersion", plus Xbox Live games for 12-players.

It's also sporting all the WTCC tourneys, which someone, somewhere, must give a monkeys about.

Race Pro is out in the autumn.

How Sega likes to play with us. It seems every time a new Sonic game rolls around we're blabbing on about how it looks "much better" than the last, and "maybe this time Sonic will return to its roots".

Well maybe, hopefully, this time we won't be disappointed. Sega's just released these Sonic Unleashed screenshots from Leipzig, complete with blue skies, 2D-esque platforming and absolutely no animal friends in sight.

The Werewolf bits look questionable, but we can just pretend those don't exist. Right?

Here you are then; five new Resistance 2 screenshots from - you guessed it - the wonderful Leipzig Games Convention, which our man on the ground is joyfully skipping around right now.

Insomniac's FPS, to be fair, looks flippin' incredible.

It's been dated for Novemeber this year, and will provide some real competition for Microsoft's big shooter sequel Gears of War 2.

In the midst of a booth filled with old demos and mislabeled kiosks sat a lone Xbox Live Arcade title that has not yet been released. Lode Runner, a visually updated release of the classic arcade game, is at the Microsoft booth at this year's German Games Convention. The gameplay feels much the same as it did in the past, but no amount of staring at the German text on screen could tell me which features this release sports. Thankfully, the intrepid Charles Onyett previously previewed Lode Runner and lays out the details here.

The sole new detail comes courtesy of the placard on the kiosk in which Lode Runner was housed. That card had a snazzy "coming soon" descriptor just below the game's name. The build on the show floor looked largely done (and translated for the German audience no less) so we might be seeing this one tossed up on the Live Arcade quite soon. ...
