Truth be told, we could sort of see this one coming -- after all, why wouldn't N-Gage developers seek to use a handset's built-in functions to enhance gameplay? Nevertheless, the folks at Nok Nok were able to pick the brain of Will Shen, N-Gage Head of Production in North America, and found out quite a few tidbits about the future of the platform. Reportedly, Mr. Shen went so far as to confirm that it is "looking at creating games that harness the power of [a mobile's] built-in camera, GPS receiver and any relevant skill [that it] may possess that could help inspire and execute innovative games." Granted, location-based titles aren't anything new in the grand scheme of things, but Shen also noted that his team is looking to "focus on innovation" rather than "gimmick gaming." Marvelous -- now let's get this stuff rolled out en masse, shall we?

    Hi all,

For those who haven't seen previous versions, XTiger is an unix emulator
(under X Window) of a TI-92 calculator (Texas instruments).
It was originally written by Jonas Minnberg and was closed source.
Jonas Minnberg has not worked on XTiger for quite a while and he gave
Misha Nasledov the code and permission to GPL it.

The IR keyboard support is based on the work of Harald Fielker
(author of the PSP IR Keyboard Library)

PSPXTI is a port on PSP a the Unix version 0.8.

What's new in this final version ?

    - Major speed improvements !
    - New eboot icons from Raven's web site !
    - Add view fps and frameskip options
    - Bug fix in the low battery watchdog
    - Analog pad can be used in the program file requester

This version works for 1.5 and custom firmware 3.X-OE/M33

It's distributed under GNU licence and sources are included.

It has been developed on linux for Firmware 1.5 and 3.71-M33,
and for the IR keyboard part it has been tested using
a Targus Universal IR Wireless keyboard.

How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.

You can download it from my blog : http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/

    Enjoy,

    Zx.

There's only one thing (okay, so maybe that's a stretch) that we love more than a mod that gives you all sorts of bragging rights: a mod that adds all sorts of utility. Tanntraad's most recent concoction -- a DIY iPod video projector -- most certainly ratchets up the PMP's functionality, as this homegrown device requires no external power, a ridiculously small amount of parts and no prior experience as a projectionist. Needless to say, the resulting unit blows up the video on your iPod for an entire room to see, and while we're sure the quality is nothing to write home about,

This news is only of interest to serious PSP Developers:

    Release/news from thefRont:

    Hey there,

you probably all know the great ready-to-go PSPSDK environtment made by ZX-81
running a Xubuntu installation inside VirtualBox. If not just keep reading...

ZX-81 did a really great job with his PSPSDK environment. As far as I can tell
it has been used by many PSP developers and got a very good reputation.
My best regards go to him as I was successfully using his environment for
    the past months.

Unfortunatly as time passed, the PSPSDK developed further but the environment
didn't get updated. So if you wanted to get the latest version of the SDK
you'd have to update it on your own. As updating can be a very frustrating
and time consuming issue I've finally come up with a brand new version of
    such an environment.

Based on ZX-81 environment it also contains all the tools you would expect
plus some extra tools like PSPLINK and an already configured Eclipse CDT for
    developing and debugging your applications.

    Contents
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The package contains a fully working Xubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release with the
    latest PSPSDK + Toolchain (Revision: 2365 - 02/26/2008) + additional Extras
    statet below:

    Additional libraries:
    - freetype
    - jpeg
    - libogg
    - libpng
    - libvorbis
    - pspirkeyb
    - SDL
    - SDL_gfx
    - SDL_image
    - SDL_mixer
    - SDL_ttf
    - zlib

    Additional tools:
    - psplinkusb (1.50 and 3.xx release)
    - pspsh + usbhostfs (used for connecting to psplink)

    Development tools:
    - KDevelop (as in ZX-81 last release)
    - Eclipse CDT (NEW! Can be used for developing and debugging your applications using psplink)

I've also included the Hello World Project by ZX-81 for KDevelop and Eclipse,
ready to use. The latest source of pspirc 1.1.2 by ZX-81 is also included, but
without KDevelop project files. It should compile quite nicely though.

    Installation
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation is fairly easy. All you need is the virtual Xubuntu image (download
is about 800 MB) and an Application called Virtualbox which is used to run the
Xubuntu system in a virtualized environment.

Please note that after you extracted the virtual image it will consume up to
*4GB* of disk space. So please make sure that you have enough free disk space.

    Get the virtual image here:

    http://www.luaplayer.org/pspsdk-image.zip

VirtualBox can be downloaded at http://www.virtualbox.org

    1. Download and extract the virtual image somewhere on your hard disk.

    2. Download and install VirtualBox, then run it.

    3. Create a new virtual machine, choose Linux 2.6 as OS Type and select 256 MB main memory.

    4. Choose 'Existing...' at the virtual hard disk selector to open the virtual media manager.

    5. Click on 'Add' and select the file you extracted in step 1.

    6. Now click 'Choose' to select the hard disk, then click 'Next' and finally click 'Finish'

    7. Start the virtual machine by double clicking on it and let the system boot up.

    8. At the login promt enter 'psp' as username and password.

    Credits
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many thanks to ZX-81 for his great PSPSDK environment and PSP applications.
I really appreciate your great work.

A big one goes out to InsertWittyName for hosting the virtual image on his server.

And I have to thank all the developers of the PSPSDK. Without you guys this
    would never have been possible.

    Any Questions?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any questions on how to run this environment please feel free
to send me a PM or write an e-mail to [email protected].
Please note that I might not answer specific questions concerning the SDK in
particular. For questions about the PSPSDK please visit http://www.pspdev.org
or check out #pspdev on irc.freenode.net

Please remember this is for serious devs only and is a 800MB download so dont abuse the bandwith.

Neoflash just posted this warning on their site:

Warning! DON'T run the old upgrade program IF your MK5 menu is 1.45 version already!

    more info: http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index....ic,4889.0.html

If you try to run the OLD upgrade rom (like the OLD 1.23x series), will make your MK5 v1.45 crash immediately, the only one way to fix it is --- you have to try to find the MK5 GBA USB linker to compelte this upgrade process!

It's no way to format it on PC through your MK5 USB loader 2008, and we will try to make this program but it's not easy really and will take a long time.

If you have run the OLD upgrade program already and can't use your MK5 again because you can't find the GBA USB linker, but you don't want to wait our new upgrade fix program ready, you can choose to send back it to your shop for ask they finish this old menu upgrade for you, or exchange a new mk5 directly.

    Warn again: DON'T TRY IT!

nitro2k01 has made a new forum for Development for the original Gameboy, heres his news:

Hello and welcome to the Gameboy Development Forum. This is a forum dedicated to discussions about game and software development for the old-school Gameboy models, the so called GB-Z80 models. This includes the original Gameboy (DMG), Gameboy Pocket, Super Gameboy and Gameboy Color. I've been thinking about starting a forum like this for a while, but never got about doing it until the question was raised over at 8bc.
There are some discussion boards and mailing lists on the topic, but my impression is that they are all pretty dead. I believe that those who engaged in GB development a couple of years ago have moved along in life. My hope is rather to spark some new interest to the scene. I don't think this is unrealistic since I think there might be some new born interest because of the chip music revolution that has taken place the last 10 years or so.
Since this forum was created in 2008 it won't lack moderation, at least for a few years. So do register if you're interested in Gameboy software development.
