Something needs to happen with the PSP, ASAP.
That's the message retailers have, according to our sources, sent Sony. With sales of the PSP lagging (Sony's PSP hardware shipments to retailers last Fall were down 72 percent over the year before, only a meager 10,000 units in the U.S.), word is that a few big name retailers have given Sony a mandate: drop the price or they'll drop the system from their stores. Entirely. With shelf space at a premium, the expectation is for Sony to do something substantial to keep its hardware moving -- or else.

Coming up on the second anniversary of the PSP (March 24th), a price drop seems possible -- after all, the price was lowered by $50 two days before its first anniversary last year. But according to Sony, that's not yet in the cards. Speaking with John Koller, the Senior Marketing Manager for the PSP, at the Game Developers Conference last week, 1UP learned that a price drop was not announced to retailers at Sony's Destination PlayStation retailer event last week.

    But something else was.

According to Koller, Sony did share plans that got retailers excited. Of course, what these plans were exactly, he wouldn't say. Could they be new PSP colors that have been previously shown and released in Japan and Europe? Or could they be the redesigned PSP with 8 GB of flash memory that's been rumored for ages? Or could they be the launch of some new PSP video/music download service? We'll likely have to wait a few more weeks to find out.

And whether it's coming soon or later down the road, a redesign for the PSP is in the works. According to Koller, Sony is in the process of reducing parts and potentially adjusting the size -- similar to what's been done with the PS1 and PS2. "I can at least say this much, the screen won't be changing in size," he said.

It seems that Sony hopes to repeat the success Apple has had with the iPod's pricing structure -- thanks to new colors and models, the iPod's price has largely remained the same over the years. Koller also admitted that Sony paid close attention to the spark in sales the DS Lite iteration of the Nintendo DS caused once it released.

One thing is clear, though: something will happen with the PSP soon. Now, we just need to wait. ...

The first Generations of Chaos game for PSP seemed good when I bought it, but the lacking tutorial made it difficult for me to really progress. Hopefully Aedis Eclipse: Generations of Chaos will do a better job of informing the gamer how to play the game. The key idea of this game seems to be that you play a main character and story in three different worlds and get those different perspectives on the war and universe. I love tactics games, so I want nothing more than for it to be worthwhile. In the meantime there are some screens to view.

Today, Crave announced that it is teaming up with everyone's favorite Crayon producers, Crayola, to bring the company's panoply of colors to Nintendo DS screens.

Armed to the teeth with a wide selection of Crayola crayons, players can draw and color their way through challenging obstacles and mini-games. Throughout the game, players will visit locations around the world, as they hunt for treasure and fame.

"Crayola crayons are an integral part of American childhood," said Mark Burke of Crave. "We're honored to be partnering with a company that has been synonymous with childhood creativity for more than a century to bring a classic piece of American culture to an entirely new medium."

With Crayola's use of Animal Collective's "One Sweet Road" in a recent commercial followed by this game announcement, we can't help but think that Crayola is trying rebrand itself for today's image conscious youth. It's most definitely working. ...

    VettaCossX-Alpha says...

SUPER Dungeons 32 - 5 in 1 a modders mod... This compilation is to be distributed as a free homebrew game a tribute to the dungeons modders around the world for all they have done to help add replay value to charnolds PSP Dungeons made from the open source q3 UNREAL engine

What I have done is combined all the Dungeons MODs(!) into one SUPER MOD COMPILATION! as you all know my absolute fav. homebrew out has to be charnolds Dungeons because of all the possible replay value with a level edditor and the ability to port md3 models from the q3 "unreal" engine" straight into the master piece that is PSP Dungeons by charnold...

Recently I had got to thinking about how often I switch out my 5 different versions of dungeons here...

    10.01.2007: Serious Dungeons v0.3 - by Be3f
16.12.2006: Dru Mod 2 - by Drew Medina
    06.12.2006: Dark Dungeons - by Be3f
    05.12.2006: Frack Mod 2 - by Frack
04.12.2007: Halo Dungeons Vs 3 beta - by VettaCossX

and decided to actually try and make a MODDERS MOD if you will!! A way to enjoy my favorite aspects of each of these gr8 mods! (trust me they all bring something different to the table!)

Ive added EVERY SINGLE LEVEL AVAILABLE, SO FAR, BY ALL OF US MODDERS and I CAN'T AND DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THEIR WORK - I JUST MADE THE COMPILATION FOR THE CONVENIANCE OF THE END USER :P

THERE ARE GFX<WEAPONS<MODELS<LEVELS SOUNDS! ELEMENTS INCORPORATED FROM ALL THE MODS OUT RIGHT NOW giving a total of 32 levels so far!

There are everyones fav ALIEN MONSTER models ( mine anyway!) klesk and uriel (+three original models), both the halo gun from halo dungeons, and the sniper rifle from the dru mod

Thank you to all the other modders out there for all your hard work all the credit goes to you: be3f, dru medina, frack and your fellow modder and biggest fan of all vettacossx :vetta:

    New from Grizzly adams:

This is the second beta of DSChannels / DualChannel / WiiCloneDS (we haven't made our mind up yet).

You'll need 80x48 pcx icons for all your applications, some samples are included. Applications are looked for in the Apps and Applications folders of your card if present. Upto 60 files can currently be indexed by this menu. This is due to the fact all the icons are loaded at boot.

Many features are still not implemented. A default skin is included, feel free to make your own skins. The loader has a early dldi patching function that tries to find a dldi patch matching the card the file is on. If this doesn't work try any alt versions of dldi patches for your card or removing all the dldi patches from the folder. The dldi patch filename must match the 4 letter cardid (SCSD SCCF NMMC NJDS R4DS...) if it is to be found.

When I said to you that the GBA went well in this moment! zeGouky, always him, reveals us another project on which it worked with not less brilliant Foxy (the inventor of the sonotone for oil cake). With Bubble Dizzy, a play of 1992 coming from Atari ST, you must go up on the surface of water thanks to the bubbles (coming from flatulances of oil cakes precisely) while collecting the pearls with through 5 levels with an aim of making a collar with the idiot. This bearing at an origin that I invite you to discover, just like the project besides, on the official topic of the forum. Thank you with zeGouky and Foxy for this bearing and long life with the GBA, name of a pipe! ...

Homebrew GBA definitely reconsiders the front of the scene in this moment and it is a very good news, especially for the antique dealers. zeGouky, of its true name Patrick Topaloff, presents the first version of carVup to us, a play in which one directs a car with eyes and a mouth. carVup is a play of 1991 having been published on Amiga and Atari ST It take again the principle of the play of arcade City Connection, namely to repaint while rolling travelling, the totality of the platforms of the level by éviant the enemies. Perhaps in will exchange it spin you a photograph dedicated of him in company of Sim, it is not beautiful the life? … ...
