My first NDS homebrew application has just been released. It's a collection of utilities useful for the maintenance of the media card you are using with your flashcart.

At the moment of this first release, two utilities are included:
    - The first one checks, and optionally fixes, any errors found in the filesystem of your media card. This is basically the same thing that you do under Windows when you run "Scandisk", but it saves you the hassle of having to turn on your computer, remove your card, connect it to the PC, etc...
    - The second utility will be mainly useful for users of Supercard family flashcarts. Such carts show ROMs and programs sorted by date. Many users (including me) prefer to have them sorted alphabetically, which is exactly what this utility does.

    Please report any comments/bugs/appreciations .

    Disclaimer:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM MESSES WITH THE FILESYSTEM OF YOUR MEDIA CARD, WHICH MIGHT RESULT IN A DATA LOSS. THEREFORE, BEFORE USING IT, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF ANY IMPORTANT DATA.

The program uses a hacked version of Chishm's libfat to allow for raw I/O:

Gears of War Update starting 9-Jan-2007

    Source:Epic forums

A Gears of War update should start pushing through the system at some point tomorrow, Tuesday January 9, 2007 prior to the two new multiplayer maps being available on Xbox Live Marketplace on Wednesday January 10, 2007.

The maps, plus an introductory video featuring Gears designer Cliff Bleszinski, are free thanks to the kind sponsorship by the Discovery Channel's Future Weapons series which launches next Monday January 15th, 2007. Be sure to check out the show to see some really cool firepower. I expect game designers all across the country will be watching the Future Weapons series very carefully looking for ideas for their future games

Here is a list of what was addressed in this update:

    • Fixed aspect ratio distortion when using VGA cable with 4:3 displays at resolutions higher than 640x480
    • Fixed voice issue with new players joining Player Match games in progress
    • Players can now get the Achievement for "Dish Best Served Cold" when using Troika turret to kill RAAM
    • Fixed rare situation where host could loop countdown and never start match
    • Fixed rare situation where players could get stuck after chainsawing in multiplayer
    • Reduced Grenade Tag melee distance
    • Enabled “Strict” NAT check on host to prevent possible connection issues
    • Optimized server browser queries to return results more quickly and prevent scroll bars from hiding quality of service icons
    • Reduced number of possible revives in Execution to match Warzone
    • Removed host name from Ranked match server browser
    • Disabled security cameras in Ranked matches
    • Ranked matches now require balanced teams (3v3 or 4v4)
    • Increased penalty for quitting a Ranked match to -50 points
    • Added additional cheat detection code
    • Additional housekeeping updates

BTW, click here to check out Discovery Channel's Future Weapons series. Be sure to check out the Weapons Zones and see some of the amazing things they showed last season. There was a huge email thread going around Epic about the Metalstorm (which they say is the "potentially the world's most powerful automatic weapon"). It is lacking a chainsaw for close-up combat but it is still pretty cool

If you are one of the lucky, like me, who have a LocationFree base station, you know what a hassle it is to load up Devhook everytime you want to watch some TV because of its removal from OE firmwares. Well here is how you can revive the lost LocationFree Player in your flash!

As always, I take no responsibility for anything that happens to your PSP. It worked on mine, but it may not on yours for whatever reason.

    Here's what you'll need:
    • A PSP with 3.02 OE-B (3.03 OE-A could very well work, but has not been tested.)
    • A dump of 3.00, 3.01, 3.02, or 3.03 firmware
    • PSP Filer
    • A LocationFree base station already registered to your PSP

    1. If not already, put the firmware dump onto your PSP.
    2. Start PSP Filer.
    3. Go into flash0 (press start until flash0: is the selected drive).
    4. Go into the FONT folder.
    5. Delete "jpn0.pgf".
    6. Highlight "ltn0.pgf" and press X then O.
    7. Switch to "ramdisk:".
    8. Highlight "ltn0.pgf" and press X then R.
    9. Rename the file "jpn0.pgf".
    10. Switch back to "flash0:" and press L+R+left to switch to HACKER MODE.
    11. Go into the FONT folder and press X then /\.
    12. After the message "1 file copied!" is displayed, go back into the Memory Stick.
    13. With relatively the same process, copy the following files from the dump into their corresponding folders in the flash:

    VSH/NODULE/lftv_main_plugin.prx
    VSH/NODULE/lftv_middleware.prx
    VSH/NODULE/lftv_plugin.prx
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_main_plugin.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_rmc_univer3in1.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_rmc_univer3in1_jp.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_rmc_univerpanel.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_rmc_univerpanel_jp.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_tuner_jp_jp.rco
    VSH/RESOURCE/lftv_tuner_us_en.rco

You may also need to permanently disable Network Update with X-Flash...that might take up enough flash space to upset this process. IDK, it was disabled on my PSP when I did it.

In addition, if your base station is registered to your devulated (emulated with devhook, best word i ever made) firmware, you will also need to copy your system.dreg and system.ireg files to your flash1.

The LocationFree Player will now be accessable on your PSP. Please note that the procedure above deletes the Japanese system font and replaces it with, basically, a dummy file, so Japanese text appears a slight bit warped, but readable for the most part, and a random underscore will occasionally appear in place of some English characters and/or symbols. But it sure beats the sh!t out of starting Devhook every time!

    Enjoy, fellow TV addicts!

If any coder is up to making a program that does all of this automatically, go ahead (but it would be nice to see my username in there for partial credit.) ...

    Updated release by MrMr[iCE]

Here's a little homebrew I've been working on for a few days:

I've updated the game with a music loop and a cool water effect in the background grid.
And another cool addition in v7: updated menu graphics. I'm revamping the interface, expect more soon.

heres a video clip of a test (old version of the game):

    any ideas are welcome.

Did you know that Sony launched a new system in 2006? Yeah, I know. Crazy. Sony's hyping up the PLAYSTATION 3 machine, but it's nice to know that the PSP will not be ignored in 2007. In fact, the PSP continues to be an integral part of Sony's plan for world domination. Peter Dille teased PSP fans with the following tidbits:

PSP has sold over 20 million units worldwide. This ain't no Game Gear, folks.
Remote Play hype: "So if you want to access Spider-Man the Movie in Milan from your PS3 in Milwauke... it's possible."
Expanded "online community" for PSP .
Portable gaming is increasingly important to the consumer: Sony obviously wants a large cut of the market.

Gundam Musou made its surprise debut just weeks ago, but it's already become one of the few PS3 games in Japan with a solid release date. A retailer blog reveals today that Bandai Namco Games has put the game on a fast track for Japanese release on March 1.

In case you weren't paying attention over the holidays, here's what all the fuss is about. Gundam Musou combines the mechs and characters of Gundam with the kill all mechanics of Koei's Shin Sangoku Musou series. The latter is known internationally as Dynasty Warriors. In fact, Dynasty Warriors developer Omega Force is heading up development on Gundam Musou.

Dynasty Warriors is one of Japan's biggest series. Gundam is... well, it's Gundam! With a release hot on the heels of VF5's 2/8 Japanese release, the PS3 software situation looks like it will be improving in a big way shortly. ...
