Konami has launched a download service for US consumers, allowing them to access free mobile game demos and other content for hit titles such as Contra, Castlevania, Frogger and Dance Dance Revolution.

The Konami Mobile Portal is a free download which the publisher hopes will make the process of choosing and buying mobile games a simple and efficient experience.

"Our customers appreciate being able to browse and sample the wide variety of products," said Joe Morris, vice president of mobile content for Konami.

"Once they do decide to buy, the speed of our store is unparalleled, with most customers receiving the content an average of 90 seconds after choosing it."

"Additionally the Konami Mobile Portal allows us to develop an ongoing relationship with our customers. We're committed to developing new ways of making the mobile experience easier and more enjoyable, and other companies are finding ways to use our technologies for a variety of applications beyond gaming," he added.

PlayStation 3 downloadable title flOw has been delayed until the New Year, according to reports.

The news comes after what appeared to be a concrete release date for the game earlier this month, promising its arrival in Sony's PlayStation Store on 19th December: today. Now IGN claims it's slipped.

flOw, originally released as a Flash-based web-game, is one of the most eagerly awaited 'arcade' titles for the next-generation system, heralded accross the internet as PlayStation 3's answer to Geometry Wars.

The game follows the evolution of a single-celled creature who munches its way up to the dizzying heights of complex organisms. Jenova Chen's original proved to be enormously popular, attracting more than 350,000 downloads, and Sony hopes its enhanced version of the game, developed by thatgamecompany, will have a desirable, PlayStation Network-boosting effect when facing off against Microsoft's established Xbox Live Arcade.

Still, delays shouldn't worry you lot, because unless you've paid a significant amount of money to dodge frowns from Sony and imported a PS3, you'll be waiting until the console's launch in March to play flOw, or anything at all on the system. ...

The American version of Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console receives its weekly thrust of new content today with the addition of another three games.

However this week's offerings, it has to be said, probably won't be setting anyone's world on fire. Unless Space Harrier II somehow transubstantiates into a giant flying death nightmare in your room and gets the hump with you.

Because it's one, at 800 Wii points, and is joined by former NES title "Tennis" (500 points) and another from Hudson's range of TurboGrafx-16 titles, Military Madness (800 points). Which may in fact also set people's worlds on fire. I don't really understand games made before 2004.

As for what's going on in the UK, let us refer you back to the published list of Christmas releases, which informs us that this Friday's local offerings will include all three of the above, along with Toe Jam & Earl (Megadrive) and Donkey Kong Jr. (NES). ...

As we get on for Christmas, it's important not only to be subject to one another, but also to embrace some of the things we've neglected in the preceding 12 months. Like Sony's mad advert about a man pissing on his own car.

The basic idea seems to be that some kids spot a rival gang's "ride" sitting unguarded on the side of the road, and one of them hops out and lets rip all across the bonnet and frontside passenger seat. Then it gets even more surreal, and squelchy.

The advert - for Gangs of London on the PlayStation Portable (what else?) - has apparently been around for a while, but we've only just noticed it because we barely use the Internet what with all the terrorism and that. The tagline is, "You've marked your territory... now fight to keep it."

Apparently it was envisaged as some sort of viral ad to encourage 16 to 30 year-olds to play the game, which is largely rubbish in our experience, with the exception of a handful of mini-games you can play in the in-game pub.

JoyTech's no stranger to the Wii accessory scene, and the firm is hitting us up once more with its Wii PowerStation. As the title implies, this docking unit can safely house two Hattori Hanzo swords potentially dangerous Wiimotes, and comes stocked with twin rechargeable battery packs to save you those late night trips to the battery department. Additionally, there's a pull-out cradle on each side to place your nunchuck, and while there's nothing to prove (or disprove) the theory, it looks as if the charging station can receive power from any USB port. So if the days on end of Wii Sportin' it are chewing through the Engergizers at an unacceptable rate, you can pick this up in late January for £19.97 ($39).

We thought it was a teensy bit unfair for everyone to harsh on the Zuners for not having full Vista compatibility at launch when Vista isn't even really out yet for consumers for another month or so. That said, the Zune team is adding Vista support today in a 22MB update that also claims to fixes bugs, improve the installation process (thank god), and hopefully generally help keep the loathing of Zune to a minimum. Now we're wondering if we'd have had as much trouble with firmware v1.2 yesterday if we'd have waited for software v1.2, too.

P.S. -Update goes live at 10:00AM PST, set your downloaders for stun. ...

Reliable sources close to Nintendo have told CVG that Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii, and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on DS will not see light of day until Christmas 2007, which could mean anything from October to December.

CVG called Nintendo about the delays, and was told us: "We never confirmed a date for Super Mario Galaxy, but I can confirm that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and Phantom Hourglass will all release in 2007. We can't confirm an exact release date for any of these titles at this time."

This is disappointing news for Nintendo fans, but it's not all bad. The Q1 2007 release lists for the DS and Wii boast some great titles.

We just hope that Nintendo can get enough titles out to keep Wii Remotes and touch screens busy over the typically quiet summer period. ...
