Devs over at the SCDev posted this news:

Decided to do something diffrent than the normal give away. We are doing a raffle for a DS-Link. Info on the unit can be found in the review here: http://www.scdev.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5984 It is a slot 1 mod that uses microSD cards. ALSO http://www.realhotstuff.com/ has donated a Kingston 1gb microSD card to along with it. The tickets for the raffle are $5 a piece. There is no limit to how many you can buy. If you buy 5 then your name goes into the drawing 5 times making your chances of winning better. The raffle is open to anyone worldwide and of course shipping of the unit is free to the winner. ALL procedes from the raffle will be donated to the homebrew developer Lick. He is the creator of DSLiveFTP, DSLiveJournal, and my personal favorite DSLiveWeather. For more information and to check out DSLiveWeather look here: http://www.scdev.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=44186#44186 To buy tickets send a paypal to [email protected] and include your username in the paypal comments so that I know who to add to the drawing and then reply to this post letting me know you entered so that I don't miss you. This is a chance for us to give back to one of the many homebrew developers that take time out of there personal lives to not only make homebrew for the DS but also share it with the public for free. Lick has done an amazing job on DSLiveWeather and has welcomed input from the public on not only bugs, but also welcomes feature request that people would like to see in future updates. Thanks and good luck to everyone who enters the raffle and a BIG thanks to Lick for the work he does in the DS Homebrew scene!!

Someone at Neogaf posted how to degloss his DS:

I do highly recommend working with a lamp if you decide to do this. You see to wipe off the dust and look at it at an angle to see where it's still slightly glossy. Once you work off the gloss it's a different kind of plastic underneath and scratches don't show.

For a last couple notes, I used one of those fluffy-feeling kind of paper towels to brush dust off the file now and then. It got it off best and would grab on the grit to let me know how much is left on the part of the file I was using.

Also, after you wipe off the dust, there is still going to be a very thin layer on the top that will make it look lighter. Just use your hand oil (it will soak up your hands dry) and when you rub it you should see the superfine dust form into clumps, it seems bluejeans are best for wiping this off, then use a finer cloth to buff it more.

I decided I'd leave the sides smooth and shiny because it looks kind of cool, it'll make sliding the power and volume easier and it'd be a pain to work on

Brenda Brathwaite knows good game sex. The founder and chair of the International Game Developers Association Sex Special Interest Group and lead designer on Playboy: The Mansion organized the Sex in Video Games Conference this summer and schooled GameHead's Geoff Keighly on some classic sexually themed games. Now, Brathwaite has unleashed a 300-page text book on the subject, titled, appropriately enough, Sex in Video Games.

This book is long, thick and certainly knows what it's doing. From the history of sex, positive inclusion and censorship, to emergent sex and sex across cultures, it's a comprehensive reference of some of the more social aspects of our tech-heavy industry.

Certainly one of the most interesting chapters in the book is the 20-page chronology and analysis of the Hot Coffee incident. The book covers everything from the initial discovery to the modest investigation and finally the full-blown media circus with interviews with the original hot coffee modder Patrick Wildenborg and MIT Prof. Henry Jenkins.

It is great to see an academic textbook showing it all off regarding this taboo subject. After all, as Brathwaite says, "games are not just for kids."

Media Molecule, the studio recently formed by the team responsible for Rag Doll Kung Fu, has revealed it is making a new title for the PlayStation 3.

The original IP will be a full-priced game and published exclusively for the PlayStation 3 by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

"Working together on Rag Doll convinced us that a focussed and efficient team had the ability to deliver exciting and innovative content," said Mark Healey, creative director at Media Molecule.

"The ambition for Media Molecule is to take that a step further and prove that a small and passionate team can deliver a world class, triple-A, next generation product."

"Sometimes the very unwieldiness of a massive team renders it much less efficient," he said.

Alex Evans, technical director for Media Molecule, added: "I think it is fantastic that a massive company like Sony has the vision to see that a smaller outfit can create a world class game."

"Even after six months of working together, we're beginning to create something very special for PS3," said Evans.

"We were immediately struck by Media Molecule's ambitions for what a next-gen title could be," commented Michael Denny, VP of Sony's worldwide studios.

"Innovation is the key to our shared vision and everyone here at SCEE is highly impressed by Media Molecule's ability to deliver on that vision. We're excited to have extended our partnership on an exclusive basis and look forward to presenting the game publicly in due course." ...

    News from Lik Sang

The Harvest Moon series has come a long way since its debut on the Super Nintendo in 1996. Over the years, virtual farmers were able to tend to their crops on a variety of systems, including GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, N64, PlayStation, PS2, GameCube and PSP. For those new to the franchise: what you are basically looking at is a life simulation title with RPG elements, where your main character's little world revolves around a farm, at which you work and interact with other members of your community, aiming at turning a small fortune in the process. Developer Natsume lets us all revisit Forget-Me-Not Valley, the setting known from the GameCube incarnation, Harvest Moon: Wonderful Life. After the Witch Princess has conjured up a prank that went too far, you are facing the task to restore peace in these familiar environments. Raise cows, sheep, chickens and ducks plus plant and grow crops and trees along the way, while attending newly included festivals. Fresh extensions, items and minigames are found in Harvest Moon DS on top!

Harvest Moon US Version for NDS is in stock and shipping within 24 hours for only US$ 39.90, eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion (like all import games at Lik-Sang). As the Nintendo DS is a region-free handheld, you will be able to play this game on any NDS system worldwide, no matter its origin; gaming bliss right out of the box!

    Story and Gameplay Mechanics

The Harvest Moon storyline mostly follows a saga involving a boy bent on caring for his farm, a benevolent harvest goddess and an army of helpers known as "Harvest Sprites". In Harvest Moon DS, the before-mentioned evil witch has thrown a curse on the crop goddess, trapping her in another world. The Harvest Sprites in turn have followed the goddess into that alternate dimension and it's up to you to bring them back by, you guessed it: farming the heck out of the land. The Sprites themselves can aid with chores around the farm and some might even unlock new activities or important information. Each and every achievement, like a farm-related accomplishment (e.g. chopping so much wood, cutting so much grass), falling in love, raising a family etc. is a potential success that could bring one Sprite home. Once you discover a Harvest Sprite, you can visit their tree and request that they give you a hand with all things farming. The Sprites don't work for free, you gotta pay them with special medals which you buy or earn by beating the house in a poker minigame.

Time plays an essential role in Harvest Moon DS. Out in the sun, the hours fly. As soon as you enter a building or a mine, time will stop so that you can get your work done. 15 minutes of gameplay are converted into a day in-game. Shops will open and close, people gather at local points of interest and the weather messes with your crops and livestock as well. The NDS' twin screens are put to full use in Harvest Moon DS. View the action on the top screen, while the bottom one displays menu, comments and hints from helpful sprite characters. On the Touch screen, you can drag and drop items into various equipment slots and save or access farming data anytime by tapping icons. A neat thing is the "touch glove", which allows you to interact with your animals directly with the stylus, similar to Nintendogs. Players can pet, brush or sheer (sheep only) the animals entrusted to them. When it comes to controlling your character, you are given the choice of doing so with on-screen buttons as well, or rely on the more traditional way of using the hardware buttons.

While GameBoy Advance's Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town set the standard for the series on the go some three years ago, the updated engine, lots of fresh content and touch screen gameplay make the first NDS version a brilliant entry to fight for the title of the best of the series. One cool thing for owners of said GB Advance title or HM: More Friends of Mineral Town is that inserting one of these GBA titles into your Nintendo DS will unlock many surprises in Harvest Moon DS! It's a challenging, yet due to the mellow and fun soundtrack, also very soothing gaming experience. Get your crops in, keep your farm critters safe and look around for the love of your life; after all these years, Harvest Moon still provides us with a warm feeling and deciding to leave your virtual farm existence for longer periods might prove difficult. Harvest Moon on NDS will keep you at it for a huge stretch, it's charming and got sheep you get to boss around. An almost perfect alternative life awaits. ...

    News from Lik Sang

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to walk around as a Pokémon? Now you can, with Nintendo's Pokemon Mystery Dungeon multi-title release (Blue Rescue Team for NDS and Red Rescue Team for GBA). Ok, to be historically correct, you were able to play a Pokémon in Super Smash Bros., but wait for what this game has in store... Developed by Chunsoft, we are presented with an actual RPG here. Your character wakes up one day to find himself to be one of those critters that Ninty has told the world since the inception of the franchise to "gotta catch 'em all". Now it seems to be the other way around: find yourself in an adventure game with semi-turnbased dungeon exploration, where you'll face the challenge of saving Pokémon who have gotten in trouble. Join the Blue Rescue Force on NDS and uncover the mystery behind what turned you into a Pokémon in the first place, meeting more than 380 of your fellow catchables on the way, as well as engage in strategic battles throughout your perilous journey. It's an unique take on the RPG side of things in the Pokémon universe for sure. Great visuals, a dramatic soundtrack and plenty of exciting environments to explore make Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for NDS the perfect handheld companion for fans of the series.

Shipping within 24 hours for free worldwide (free delivery, like all import games at Lik Sang), the US version of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for NDS leaves our warehouse for just US$ 44.90. Region-free by nature, any Nintendo DS system globally can be used to play this title. Red Rescue Team for GBA is in stock as well, available for just US$ 44.90. Both versions are similar, but you don't wanna miss out on the brilliant dual-screen action of the Nintendo DS game!

Building up to next week with the Japanese releases of long-anticipated RPGs Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl (both for Nintendo DS), it already feels like Pokémon festival here [Editor: Not that there is anything wrong with it]. Expect full Lik Sang coverage on these two highlights upon release!

NDS Blue Rescue Team: Features and Gameplay

At the start of the game, you'll take a quiz that determines what Pokémon you will become. Right there, you'll pick a first partner Pokémon, that you should choose so it compliments your own type well. Now that you've woken up in the body of a Pokémon and learn that you can freely communicate with others (beats listening to "Pika, Pika!!!"), Butterfree will ask you to rescue her Caterpie. And so the saga begins... After completing this mission, you form the rescue team with your partner Pokémon to go on a grand trip to help as many others as you can. Natural disasters are the main cause that endanger your fellow Pokémons and you need to explore dank dungeons and towering mountains in order to better the situation. The surroundings are lovingly crafted, with atmospheric visuals and charming animations. Having no trainers around means that your team will act on specific tactics you assign to each member. "Gosh, what to do without Poké Balls?" you might ask. Simple: convince others to join your team by defeating them in battle.

Players have various moves and items at their disposal to complete rescue missions and increasing their team's reputation on the way. Dungeons rely on randomly generated maps, guaranteeing a fresh experience every time you enter one. New moves can be learned constantly, which you can link together and execute in the same turn for example (but this costs more points). Customizing attacks and adjusting AI routines is part of the job as well. Failing in a dungeon will make you loose your money earned plus all items gained during your expedition. Thanks to the wireless multiplayer function of the Nintendo DS, other players can rescue a party lost. Exchanging written down passwords lets you help other players no matter what version (NDS/GBA) of the game they are on. If two Blue Rescue Team NDS users with their systems in sleep mode bypass each other, they will be automatically rewarded with a rare item!

After you've rescued a Pokémon, you head to Pokémon Square where you can access all sorts of shops and services. Buy items, store them, hone your combat skills in Makuhita Dojo etc. Friends Areas you need to buy to have a place to stay for the Pokémon that travel with you. The touch screen offers additional information, where you can also opt to use stylus control instead of the usual NDS button setup. Due to the general structure of the game you can easily go for quick-shot sessions, if you don't have time for hours of exploring; the game can conveniently be saved each time after you've saved one critter. All in all, it's a great time for followers of one of Nintendo's most successful brand, with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team on NDS providing a solid Roleplay experience that will keep you glued to your handheld. What are you waiting for, ...

Final Fantasy XII has been out since March in its home country, and is due for release this October 31 in the US... with Europe suspiciously left off any release schedule from the Japanese giant. Until now that is, as Square Enix has finally confirmed that the English language version will finally be adventuring across the Atlantic for an early 2007 release.

John Yamamoto, President and CEO of Square Enix commented "we are very excited to be bringing FFXII to Europe and PAL territories next year. The game has been a massive success in Japan and looks set to become one of the crowning glories of PlayStation 2."

Obviously 'early 2007' is still quite vague, but at least the long-awaited RPG is now 100% confirmed to hit these shores. No details were given whether we would get the US Collector's Edition although we are keeping our fingers crossed given Square's past tendency to reward European gamers for dramatic delays, with Final Fantasy X receiving tweaks before it landed in Europe. ...
