    It may not be the first time you've been able to snag a PSP Go for $150, but you can now rest assured that you'll never pay anything more than that, as Sony has officially knocked another $50 off the handheld's list price. That follows a similar $50 price drop back in October (not to mention a $40 price cut to the regular PSP just last week), although that doesn't seem to have done a whole lot to boost sales of the download-only device. Will this new low, low price make a bigger difference? And, if not, how much lower can it go before a certain quad-core monster really makes its presence felt?

    It's tough to get solid numbers out of Sony for hardware sales, usually they're cloaked behind a vague "shipped" figure, but at GDC this week the company gave us one rather impressive number: 41 million. That's the number of PS3 consoles the company says it has sold worldwide, and over 80 percent are sucking down data from ye olde internet. Confirming the moneymaking trend we heard about last month, in 2010 the PlayStation store saw a 60 percent boost in traffic and a 70 percent boost in revenue from a total of 70 million PSN accounts. Let's see... 70 million PSN user accounts, 41 million PS3 consoles, 80 percent of which are online -- that means almost everyone has one account for gaming and a second for griefing. Sounds about right.

    Yesterday's announcement of the second-generation iPad showed exactly why there was so much excitment around the device. As the video hands on shows, iPad 2 makes up for all the things lacking in the original iPad. The 1GHz dual-core A5 chip does justice to apps like Photo Booth and over all user experience. Moreover, while the screen carries the same resolution, Apple was able to pack it in a noticably thinner iPad 2. Infact its dimensions, 13.4 mm to 8.8mm thick, make it 33% thinner than iPhone 4.     PlayStation Portable action game Gods Eater Burst is a GAME exclusive in the UK, Namco Bandai has announced.
    It goes on sale on 18th March.
    Gods Eater Burst first went on sale in Japan last year, where it did really rather well.
    It plays similarly to Capcom's phenomenally successful Monster Hunter, but there's a big storyline with voice over work and everything.
    You battle against Aragami, powerful god-like creatures, hence the God Eaters moniker.

    Markus "Notch" Persson, the creator of all-conquering indie sensation Minecraft, believes pirating a game isn't tantamount to stealing.
    "Piracy is not theft," he said at GDC this week, reported by Edge Online.
    "If you steal a car, the original is lost. If you copy a game, there are simply more of them in the world.
    "There is no such thing as a lost sale. Is a bad review a lost sale? What about a missed ship date?"
    Persson's advice is to "make a game last longer than a week" and to "treat game development as a service".
    "You can't pirate an online account," he thrust.
    But perhaps he would say that; MMOs like Minecraft naturally authenticate accounts each time someone logs in, and they evolve naturally and significantly through years of prolonged development.
    If a typical console game forfeits the £40 up-front sale to piracy, there's little opportunity to recoup that, regardless of whether that pirate is now a fan of the game or not.
    Nevertheless, PC and console games today offer post-launch DLC as a matter of course. And there are initiatives such as EA's Online Pass that charge money to play multiplayer unless you bought first-hand and redeemed the free in-box code.
    Markus Persson and Minecraft embody the indie opportunity. He's now an unlikely, overnight millionaire, and Minecraft could be the nearest thing World of Warcraft has had to a competitor in years.
    As such, Minecraft's crowning 2010 year of glory was heavily recognised at the Game Developers Conference award shows last night.
    MineCraft took home three Game Developers Choice awards, including Best Debut Game, and scooped two Independent Game Festival gongs, including the coveted Seamus McNally Grand Prize.
    Markus Persson, the talk of the town, was one of the guests chatting to Ellie Gibson and John Teti inEurogamer's inaugural episode of GDC After Dusk.

    UPDATE: The First Strike DLC is available to download from PSN now.
    ORIGINAL STORY: Treyarch has issued an update to the PlayStation 3 version of first-person shooter phenomenon Call of Duty: Black Ops ahead of the launch of the First Strike downloadable content later today.
    The patch 1.07 notes are below.

    New Features:
    • Added the in-game store.
    Issues Addressed:
    • Setting party privacy to "closed" now fully functions as intended.
    • Improved connectivity in matches containing multiple online split screen parties.
    • Calling in a Chopper Gunner immediately after getting shot down in a Gunship will no longer end the Chopper Gunner run prematurely. Required timing-specific button presses.
    • Split screen players are now able to change camera perspectives and cycle through players as a spectator.
    • Fixed rare infinite load for clients with slow connections who join on a friend at the end of a match as the final killcam is ending.
    • The name of a copied custom class no longer reverts back to the default after changing it.
    • Fixed a rare issue where gun sight lenses could appear opaque.
    • Addressed an issue where the most recent match played in Zombies could overwrite the best match played on the leaderboard.
    • Improved Zombies lobbies to prevent players from erroneously receiving the error "Unable to join game session" under certain circumstances.
    • Fixed rare infinite load that could occur in Zombies involving split screen parties accepting an invite into a Private Match.
    • Addressed a number of community-discovered Zombies gameplay exploits.

    The First Strike Call of Duty Black Ops downloadable content will be available to download from the UK PlayStation Store between 3pm and 4pm today. It costs £11.49 / €14.49.
    The First Strike DLC launched as a 1200 MS Point timed Xbox 360 exclusive in February, and set new platform records with more than 1.4 million downloads in the first 24 hours.
    It includes five all new maps: Berlin Wall; Discovery; Kowloon; Stadium; and Ascension, which features zombies.
    US developer Certain Affinity designed and built Discovery and Stadium in collaboration with Treyarch.
    The First Strike DLC is due out on PC before the end of March.
    Eurogamer's Will Porter awarded it 7/10, proclaiming it "a well-balanced collection of different styles of map."

    Epic's game making technology Unreal Engine 3 works on everything – except the Nintendo 3DS.
    "There's only so much time in the day; our engine requires a certain level of hardware capabilities to make our pipeline, our tools work - and we work on the ones that do," vice president Mark Rein told Joystiq at the Game Developers Conference.
    "The second Nintendo releases a piece of hardware that can run our engine well, we'll be on it like water on fish."
    Unreal Engine-made games run on almost every conceivable platform – even those yet to be released.
    At a Tokyo press conference in January, the Gears of War maker showed Unreal Engine working on the Next Generation Portable – Sony's PlayStation Portable successor.
    But there's no love for the Nintendo 3DS.
    "There's nothing against Nintendo," Rein continued. "I hate that people somehow think that's the case.
    "If we felt it could run [Unreal Engine] and deliver the kind of experience people license our technology to build, we'd be on [the 3DS]."

    Nintendo hopes its 3DS handheld will do the talking when it comes to convincing gamers of its merits.
    It's been hard to get the glasses-free visuals message across through traditional marketing methods, game developer legend Shigeru Miyamoto told Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata in the latest Iwata Asks interview.
    "The Nintendo 3DS system is sometimes said to just be a 'Nintendo DS system with higher specs'. But it's really much more than that," Miyamoto said.
    "It's a gaming system with an entirely different charm. That's why, for the customers who purchase it, I want them to fully enjoy the features of this new machine."
    The Nintendo 3DS expands on the DS with more impressive graphics and new communication features that enable local and online sharing with other 3DS owners.
    But it is the 3D visuals that have captured most attention – and given Nintendo its biggest headache.
    "The greatest charm of the Nintendo 3DS system, including the 3D images, is very difficult to convey just through the TV or the internet," Iwata said. "Of course, we have tried very hard to do so, and we did our very best in the demonstrations. But I think it would be most ideal for the people who purchase it to try to tell others what they like about it."
    This, according to Miyamoto, is why the Nintendo 3DS has pre-installed software, such as augmented reality games, a 3D camera, a sound editor and a Mii Maker.
    "It's like the hardware itself is an eloquent orator," he said.
    "Now it's a matter of how far we can reach beyond that."
    Iwata and Miyamoto shared a recent encounter facilitated by the Nintendo 3DS' StreetPass tech.
    "I got your Mii character on my Nintendo 3DS system before I knew it," Miyamoto said. "We did walk past each other somewhere in the company, so it wasn't unexpected in any way. But it made me happy nonetheless! It made me say, 'Oh, look! It's Iwata-san!'"
    "People will understand what we mean once they experience it," he continued. "I really want everyone to see for themselves. I'm sure that if they get to use StreetPass in a huge country like America, it'll be even more fun." The Nintendo 3DS, which goes on sale in Europe on 25th March, has already sold close to 400,000 units in Japan.

    The iPad 2 is "already is a portable games console" according to Epic Games' Mark Rein, who enthused about the newly announced device to website VentureBeat.
    "As they keep improving this thing. If they can do this every single year with iPad it's not too many years before they'll be able to power that next generation demo we've been showing off at GDC," said Rein in reference to the company's new technology demonstration.
    The iPad 2 was officially announced last night at a series of events around the world. It will be released on 11th March in the U.S. but on 25th March in Europe - the same day as the Nintendo 3DS.
    Apple describes the device's new graphics chip and dual-core A5 processor as having "nine times" the power of the original iPad, as well as being thinner, lighter and featuring an HDMI output for output to televisions and monitors.
    "The technical specs are phenomenal but then to have it lighter, to have a video camera, no raise in price. I mean Apple just blows us away every single time," commented Rein.
    "This is something I talked about where you'd walk around with your game console and when you get in a room with a TV you'll see it on your TV. Now well now Apple's made that a reality."
    "More CPU means potentially more physics, more enemies on the screen, a wider view of the environment. It's just really fantastic. And our engine is uniquely sorted to go from everything from iPhone 3GS to all the way beyond anything you can build today," he added.
    "That's what we're showing at our both at GDC, our next generation proposal, what we think that next giant leap should be. The way Apple's going they will be part of that story down the road, as they keep improving this thing."
    Rather than the power of the device the greatest barrier to creating games on iOS formats is generally seen as the lack of physical buttons and controls, which Rein also addressed.
    "It doesn't have the same control scheme but it has something that's different in an interesting way. Infinity Blade isn't really a game we'd make for a console you'd play with your thumbs it's designed for the touch experience."

    Although the glasses-free stereoscopic 3D is the system's most important feature it is impossible to illustrate directly in print or video. Nintendo has resisted trying to illustrate the 3D effect alone using 3D glasses.
