Although overall sales are down this week, recent price cuts and new hardware colours continue to have a positive effect on Nintendo DS sales in Japan. The three current models sold 56,271 units in total, down around 8000 units on the previous week.

The DSi XL was also the number selling individual hardware format of the week, on 32,661 units, helped by the number one success of Level-5's Inazuma Eleven 3 . The DSi sold 18,271 units and despite currently being phased out the DS Lite still managed 5,339 units.

Total PSP sales stood at 25,709 for the week, with the PSPgo accounting for just 1,024. PSP-3000 sales of 24,685 were almost identical to the previous week.

Both the Wii and PlayStation 3 saw a small increase to 21,964 and 20,077 units, respectively.

Capcom has revealed the Collector's Edition - the Outbreak Edition - of Dead Rising 2 and launched the official website for the game.

Inside the Collector's Edition is a figurine of an overweight zombie wearing a hat and a large white shirt splattered with blood. There's a little LEGO head to swap with his, plus a cone that, er, must do something.

With the figurine comes the game and an extra disc with bonus material on.

Capcom's new Dead Rising 2 website, Tape It Or Die, plays on the game's central idea of taping weapons to objects. Even the box art features a chainsaw taped to an oar.

On the Tape It Or Die website you'll find a blog, "Cool Zombie Stuff", a forum and more.

Sony has offered further details of its rollout for 3D support on PlayStation 3, including movies, PlayTV and photos.

According to Sony Europe's Mick Hocking, speaking at an event in London attended by CVG, a firmware update for Blu-ray 3D movie support will be released in September.

Support for 3D photos and video camera recordings will come by the end of 2010, he said, but he refused to specify the timing.

Beyond that, PlayTV users can expect to access 3D content through the DVR software as soon as broadcasters start offering them.

Sony is making a big push for 3D on a corporate level through its consumer electronics, games and movie divisions.

At E3 it showcased Killzone 3 in 3D and pledged to release a number of titles with 3D support.

Earlier this year the platform holder issued a firmware update for PS3 to prepare the console for 3D content, and last month it released 3D patches for PAIN, WipEout HD and Super Stardust HD, plus a MotorStorm: Pacific Rift 3D demo.

Nintendo believes that all-new anti-piracy tech in 3DS will be foolproof to cracks from illegal downloaders.

That's according to THQ's executive VP of global publishing Ian Curran, who told CVG that that piracy had scuppered his firm's ability to produce more games for DS Lite in the past.

"What excites me even more [than 3DS games] is that there's technology built in that device to really combat piracy," said Curran.

"The problem with the DS market in the last few years, particularly with the DS Lite, is that it's just been attacked by piracy. It's made it almost impossible to shift any significant volume. The DSi combated it a little bit, but the 3DS has taken that a step further."

"I actually asked Nintendo to explain the technology and they said it's very difficult to do so because it's so sophisticated," he continued. "They combated the piracy on Dsi, which they don't believe is cracked yet - but they know they've been hurt across the world and they believe the 3DS has got technology that can stop that.

"Therefore the opportunity for people to invest more in product development [on the system] and bring more 3DS products to market comes out of that. It's going to probably cost us more to do it all in 3D - so we want to make sure we get a return on our investment when we do it."

When Curran says piracy has "attacked" DS, he isn't kidding. Rampant illegal activity has killed revenues for publishers on the device - driven by the release of re-writable cartridges, particularly the R4 cart, which has been outlawed in Japan.

Big Fish has today released Big City Adventure: San Francisco; a hidden object game that claims to be the first iPhone game to integrate peer-to-peer multiplayer gameplay with voice chat. Originally designed by Jolly Bear Games as a PC download, the iPad and iPhone versions integrate Z2Live’s multiplayer and voice chat solutions to connect people over WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and the Edge network.
“Friends can chat while playing against each other from wherever they are in the world. We’ve also developed a native app for iPad, offering an HD version with high-resolution graphics so you can see with incredible detail when zooming in on the larger screen.” said Patrick Wylie, vice president of Big Fish Games Studios.

In Big City Adventure: San Francisco, players embark on a treasure hunt through the cosmopolitan city as they search for numerous hidden objects. The game incorporates 48 rounds of treasure hunting and a further 48 rounds of mini-games, including memory challenges, jigsaw puzzles and matching objects.

Key features of the game include live multiplayer and voice chat integration, Facebook integration, replayability as well as including a majority of all iPhone features such as the ability to listen to your own music whilst playing the game.

SEGA has announced that PlatinumGames shooter Vanquish will be released in the UK on Friday, 22nd October.

Anybody pre-ordering from particular retailers (that helpfully aren't mentioned) will have access to a Tri-Weapon pack. This can be downloaded from Xbox Live or PlayStation Network and offers a Boost Machine Gun, Laser Cannon and Anti-Armour Pistol.

Vanquish is made by Bayonetta and MadWorld developer PlatinumGames, and directed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.

You'd be forgiven for thinking Vanquish looks a lot like Halo. Fortunately, there's plenty going on to differentiate the two.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge joins the PlayStation Store today. This, like the first game, has been beautifully restored for a new set of eyes that aren't old and world-weary. And for those old-timers there is developer commentary and nostalgia to loosen a tear. Monkey Island 2 costs eight quid.

The PlayStation Store has a new batch of discounts to consider, none of which knock us silly, plus a slew of add-on game content. Dragon Age grows with Leilana's Song, Modern Warfare 2 finally receives the Resurgence Pack and Aliens vs. Predator gets some new maps.

Also worth pointing out is a demo for Patapon 3 on PSP.

On the Digital Comics Store there's a pile of reading to be done. Top of the list is issue 3 of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One.

PlayStation Home's also had a refresher and welcomes a WipEout area as well as some Monkey Island guff, Just Cause 2 threads, Street Fighter costumes and more. Oh, and Sony mentioned that the Hustle Kings event space will be removed next week.
